While immigration officers support the Trump administration’s goal of deporting undocumented migrants, many of them have grown ‘disillusioned’ with leadership’s tactics, according to reports

Morale is “plummeting” among federal law enforcement officers tasked with carrying out the Trump administration’s aggressive anti-immigration operation, as they complained that long hours, ambitious arrest quotas and hatred from the public, according to reports.

While officers at Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Patrol, overseen by the Department of Homeland Security, said they supported the administration’s goal of deporting undocumented migrants, many of them have grown “disillusioned” with the tactics being implemented by leadership.

More than 20 current and former immigration officials told The New York Times of their discontent in the hours following the fatal shooting of 37-year-old nurse Alex Pretti by a federal agent in Minneapolis.

It was the second deadly shooting of a U.S. citizen carried out by a federal agent in weeks, as officers clashed with protesters following intense public anger over the violence in Minneapolis.

Then they should quit. Problem solved.

Unionize and demand better working conditions, like lower quotas, only criminal record targets, proper long training, and 32-hour work weeks. Strike to get it. Get fired in the process. 😂

E: Learn radical left ideology in the process.

The Border Patrol officers are literally in the same union as the nurse they shot in Minneapolis.

You shoot a union member you should be kicked out of the union or pay damages through the union. Solidary shouldn't be this blind.

[–] BlackAura@lemmy.world 23 points 16 hours ago

That's gonna make for an awkward all hands meeting.

[–] MajinBlayze@lemmy.world 24 points 14 hours ago

But that's bout why they joined ICE. They are there explicitly to terrorize and kill people, and to feel like the masculine versions of themselves they are too weak to actually be.

[–] kungen@feddit.nu 3 points 11 hours ago

It's crazy that it's literally illegal for federal employees to strike.

[–] Eat_Your_Paisley@lemmy.world 9 points 17 hours ago

They likely are unionized

[–] Eezyville@sh.itjust.works 55 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

Them quitting is a good first step but wont solve the underlying issue. ICE recruited Nazis. They will be Nazis with or without ICE.

[–] homura1650@lemmy.world 29 points 15 hours ago

But they won't have the authority, protection, and power of the state to carry out violence.

[–] Manjushri@piefed.social 3 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 56 minutes ago) (1 children)

The Nazis are not the ones with the ~~moral~~ morale problems, I'm sure. They are all walking around at half-mast over the hate they are receiving and the atrocities they are committing.

[–] logi@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

To be precise, the Nazis do have plenty of moral problems. They're not the ones with morale problems.

[–] Manjushri@piefed.social 1 points 57 minutes ago

Fair point. Thanks for the correction.

[–] Thedogdrinkscoffee@lemmy.ca 38 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

~~quit~~

Die of natural causes at an unusually young age even with no prior conditions.

[–] j_elgato@leminal.space 7 points 15 hours ago

Fuck that.

Prior conditions.

ALL the prior conditions. U.S. healthcare will prove to be just as fatal, optimizes suffering, far more expensive, and the frustration of knowing you could be cured easily by a functional system run by a caring society.

[–] novibe@lemmy.ml 7 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

They all got massive sign-on bonuses. If they quite before 5 years they have to pay 10k per year they left early.

[–] kurwa@lemmy.world 12 points 12 hours ago (1 children)
[–] novibe@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 hours ago

For sure but I feel even the ones that want to quit won’t, because of this. That’s all I meant 🤷‍♂️

[–] hopesdead@startrek.website 23 points 17 hours ago (3 children)

I don’t know if this is true, but the employment contracts supposedly have a repayment clause. So the assumption is many people are financially unable to quit once they are hired.

It's a unique ice thing. I've heard they are paid a bonus and are on the hook to give it back if they don't work 5 years. Ofc they could just not spend it but assuming they did they owe the government money if they quit.

I don't care though, they are murdering people in the streets

[–] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social 12 points 16 hours ago

Its not unique to ICE its how hiring bonuses work all over the US. Its not universal but it is a common practice.

[–] ccunning@lemmy.world 5 points 15 hours ago

lol - the Nazis are indentured servants?

[–] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social 11 points 16 hours ago

Its actually really common in the US. Hiring bonuses get paid out at the end of the first year but are paid on the first day. The repayment is pro-rated based on how long you worked.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 7 points 16 hours ago

Yes of course. Every job in the United States starts with a debt contract /s

[–] hopesdead@startrek.website 6 points 16 hours ago

I’ve never heard of this before but it is a real thing. I would chock this up to the Administration not wanting to really pay anyone… thus trying to ensure they don’t get massive numbers quitting.

Also, anyone notice that all the people working for DHS during all of this that media has captured in public are men? Is that by design or do women have better morality?

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 10 points 16 hours ago

My wife told me about some lefty podcast she listens to where the host was recruited by them and went through the process just to take a peek behind the curtain. Apparently the 5-year repayment thing is real, at least going by the contract they gave her.

[–] Kyrgizion@lemmy.world 7 points 15 hours ago

Allow me to ready the world's tiniest violin for a serenade...

Exactly. If they still accept a check, the morale isn’t “low”
