Given how the US is treating protesters on university campuses this month, I'd say we're not far behind.

Remember when the Trump admin was disappearing people from protests in unmarked vans driven by anonymous people wearing no uniforms?

This is what a lot of fascist politicians aspire to be, though they'd never say it out loud. After all, they only want to do this to the "bad" people.

Sorry for making this US-centric, this is a shame for Iran and their society, both of which have great potential if they could get out from under the boot.

“Can't you just shoot them? Just shoot them in the legs or something?"

-Donald Trump, regarding those protesting the death of George Floyd

Don't forget that he had to be told that being shot in the legs is a deadly injury because of the major arteries.

The previous president of the united states thinks action movies are real.

Side note.

One of my favourite things movies and TV shows can do is show an injury that would be minor on an action movie, then proceed to explain that no, it’s actually possible to fully die from it.

Archer is a good example:

“You were knocked out, which btw is suuuper bad for you”

I expect nothing less from a man who recommended we nuke hurricanes.

As an Iranian, please do make this about the US. We have seen a lot of parallels with what is wrong with iran vs what is wrong in US.

It’s what makes the whole death to America chant so ironic.

From my eyes, there is no iran vs us or all that. This is a human problem when people take power and suppress their citizens using fear tactics. We all should be on team democracy and personal freedoms.

until a 16 year old girl is found dead on the side of the street after being arrested... STFU

[-] deaf_fish@lemm.ee 11 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Would you also take a 16 year old killed during the arrest? How about in custody? Would you also accept sexual assault or rape while in custody?

I feel like where the body ended up is not the major issue here.

In all honesty: I have missed these numerous videos. Can you source any of them?

Please note that I am plenty well aware of how often police abuse prisoners or use their powers of arrest to coerce people. I just doubt that there are plentiful videos that show police officers arresting, raping, and killing 16 year old girls.

Hyperbole undermines causes. As the other poster right under you alluded to, though, there is sufficient evidence of other police misconduct that is nearly as egregious.

These things that really happened should be the focus of conversation, I think, if we absolutely must shoehorn discussion of the USA into every conversation about how authority figures abuse their position worldwide.

Edit: “one” to “old”

Listen, I respect you enough to believe that you saw some fucked up things. Seeing those kinds of things can really do a number on your head and memory, and it’s easy to conflate memories of trauma. Especially when it’s consumed as it seem like you have, via (social) media. And I do not at all disagree with your assertion that US policing needs fundamental change (approaching complete tear down, ideally).

However I, too, have been around on the internet for quite a while, and frequented bad parts of it. I didn’t see what you describe. I have a professional interest in watching such events, and I have worked very closely with police for quite a long time (albeit in just a few municipalities in a single US state).

Your “trust me” just doesn’t cut it, so my point stands: unless you have specific proof or ability to refer to evidence, don’t be hyperbolic. You simply can’t compare US policing to Iran, it’s apples and oranges of terrible, awful, horrifying shit.

And I have also met and studied with folks who have fled from Iran. I have had conversations with them and heard first hand stories. Please, use caution when you compare such dramatically different settings and circumstances of brutality. It really serves to undercut the complexity and uniqueness of these circumstances. Since different forms of resistance are necessary to combat them, it does nobody any good to try and compare them.

Finally, please don’t seek out things you don’t want to seek out for the sake of “winning” an internet argument with somebody who genuinely agrees with the spirit of your statements. It’s not worth it, I think.

Feral animals without any sense of decency. Broken minds whose mothers either failed them or they failed their mothers.

Ooooh... now all of a sudden liberal media cares about protestors in Iran again - anything to distract from the thousands of civilians they've helped murder somewhere else over there in the middle-east...
