Right now, Sony has yet to update the Steam listing to remove the PSN account requirement or the region lock out. Don't update your reviews to positive yet. Talk is cheap and all Sony has actually done it put out a statement to appease fans and stop the damage.

[-] Kecessa@sh.itjust.works 37 points 3 months ago

Or better yet, never update your review because fuck them.

Game theory says to always reciprocate in kind and always enable kindness.

They punch you, punch back, then be friends

[-] JoshuaSlowpoke777@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

That being said, I question how that applies in this context. Corporate leadership doesn’t exactly strike me as trustworthy nor worthy of mercy, although that could be a lean toward cynicism on my part.

[-] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 8 points 3 months ago

If we don't change reviews back then they have no reason to keep their word. Lose lose

We do change reviews back they have good reviews and need to keep their word to ensure this doesn't happen again. Win win

We change reviews back they lie, we just change ours back to negative again and go about our days. Lose lose

It's still a good game, and Arrowhead is trying to do right.

Want a protest like this to work next time?

Oh, I don't know, what do you think will teach them a lesson between losing sales for a few days or losing sales long term? 🤔

The financial impact will have been minimal and that's what's important to them, they were expecting to make X$ from this game this year, now Sony will have lost a week's profit from few players because people are jumping back in when they could have made Sony lose years of profit from a lot of players by leaving negative reviews and by not playing or paying for currencies anymore.

It's corporations we're dealing with, not people, we don't owe them anything, especially not pardon.

Wanna see how much they learned their lesson?

You linked a different game which we seem to know will require PSN before it’s sold.

So don’t buy games which require PSN?

If people don’t buy it and tell Sony it’s because of the PSN requirement, it will reinforce the point made during the Helldivers debacle.

[-] Kecessa@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 months ago

Helldivers 2 required PSN from the moment it became available, it was just put on hold while the servers were catching up to the demand.

As I said, they didn't learn a thing and will learn even less if people just go back to rewarding them with money because they put PSN implementation on hold for a single game.

[-] capital@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

So the product was going to be changed to match what was advertised as a requirement?

What was everyone mad about?

[-] Kecessa@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

The game was made available in countries where PSN isn't available and people don't read requirements because they assume that if it's available to them then they just need to have a PC that can run it and PC players hate having to use a bunch of services to play their games.

If the consequences are definitive, we are less likely to see this again. If the consequences can be reverted, we are more likely to get out of these situations again. Both methods work

[-] Strider@lemmy.world 9 points 3 months ago

This a thousand times.

[-] Sonicdemon86@lemmy.world 43 points 3 months ago

I'll change my review after the 30th when we were supposed to have signed up for the PSN or when they change the store page and not before.

[-] jet@hackertalks.com 33 points 3 months ago

I'll change my review once my country is no longer region locked on steam... And not a moment before

[-] Fubarberry@sopuli.xyz 22 points 3 months ago

It's important that people who gave a negative review over PSN go back and change their review now. If the community shows that review scores will go back to positive after getting what we want, it will make other companies in the future more willing to give up unpopular decisions.

Also the devs deserve a good review score from what I've seen, this wasn't really their fault and I wouldn't want them to suffer any more for it.

[-] Aphelion@lemm.ee 53 points 3 months ago

I agree with you except for the fact that Sony has yet to change the region lock out or remove the PSN account requirement on the Steam store listing. Talk is cheap and that's all Sony has done so far.

[-] stardust@lemmy.ca 9 points 3 months ago

Quick reversal shows that community is proactive in recognizing good and bad actions, so that even if reviews flip to good again it can quickly become negative. So I don't think there is a need to hold off on changing reviews back to positive. Showing that the community is actively engaged is good to demonstrate.

[-] hobovision@lemm.ee 6 points 3 months ago

I'm not saying they should be rewarded but the penalty should be removed. I'm not saying people should go give it a positive review if they didn't already have one, I do think the negative reviews should at least be removed. If Sony reneges then there will obviously be a huge backlash again and "we ain't gon get fooled again".

[-] Fubarberry@sopuli.xyz 2 points 3 months ago

That's a valid point.

[-] Kecessa@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 months ago

No, it will make companies realize there's no true consequence to acting like idiots

[-] Fubarberry@sopuli.xyz 18 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

It's important that there's a benefit to them giving up something they wanted. If the reviews don't get better after they gave up forcing PSN, then Sony would have been better off keeping the requirement. Other companies would look at this situation, and think that once Sony made the initial mistake, they would have been better off doubling down instead of backing off.

You're wanting this to be an example of "don't make stupid corporate decisions or you'll get punished", but that I'm very confident that companies will still make stupid decisions because they're so out of touch they don't realize their ideas are stupid. Instead it's easier to get good results with situations like this if companies see that there's a way out: to do what the people want and get their review score back.

"Mixed". Dang. Wow. That's quite a fall from grace.

[-] entropicshart@sh.itjust.works 44 points 3 months ago

It’s a step up from the Overwhelmingly Negative they had the other day

[-] Draedron@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 3 months ago

Too bad with how the devs lied and told me people who complained to leave. They only acted like the are on the side of the players after the shit storm got too big. My bad review stays

[-] filcuk@lemmy.zip 26 points 3 months ago

They used their customers to fight their publisher. It worked out this time. Good on them, if you ask me. Game studios get messed about far too often.

[-] Linkerbaan@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago
[-] PatheticGroundThing@beehaw.org 11 points 3 months ago

They put out a single statement with no action, and everyone online instantly went "WE WON IT'S TIME TO CHANGE BACK TO POSITIVE!" and then a lot of cringy RP about democracy.

It feels incredibly artificial.

[-] That_Devil_Girl@lemmy.ml 10 points 3 months ago

My bad review stays. I don't trust Sony to keep their word.

[-] JJROKCZ@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago

I’ll be changing mine back to positive next time I’m at my pc for sure

[-] Ganbat@lemmyonline.com 9 points 3 months ago

So far, all that's out there is words. All the limitations on the game on Steam are still in place. I'd wait until that's removed to change anything.

Democracy works! You voted and they listened!

[-] Zuberi@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 3 months ago

They haven't done shit yet. Don't change your review until it actually happens.

[-] Gladaed@feddit.de 1 points 3 months ago

Pretty sure this is a Helldivers lorebased dig.
