No one can disagree she should be given a fucking medal.

Volar, who was White, had been filming his sexual abuse of Kizer, who is Black, for more than a year.

Ohhhhhhh. I see the problem here. Yikes. Justice is in serious jeopardy.

I thought shooting someone in self-defense was legal?

This isn't even a stand your ground situation.

Oh wait, she's black? Lethal injection time!

Not to defend the pedophile rapist, because I’m not, but the self defense part of this has a lot more nuance than most people know. I encourage you to look it up for yourself but she essentially tracked this guy down on purpose and shot him.

Was it justifiable? I think yes. Was it Self Defense? Arguably not. It was 99% Revenege.

I would compare this to Lorena Bobbitt. You have a point in that this girl tracked him down, but arguably he presented an ongoing threat as long as he was free—especially if he knew she was the reason he got busted. But she also probably relived the abuse constantly in her head. Years and years of abuse redefines who you are as a person.

Self defense might be a stretch, but were I on that jury she'd never see the inside of a cell.

Nahhh man. That's like instead of a filing a restraining order for your abuser you just go out and kill them. Ultimately the cops should've had him locked up with no bail but their incompetence created this situation.

That being said we as a society can't just move to mob justice when the system fails. She should get a mix of jail time and counciling. You don't get to kill someone just because they abused you. That's revenge not justice

I think the issue here is there is the rule book and then there is the reality we all live in. Like when you tell an adult as a kid you’re being picked on at school and they say “just tell the teacher”.

Sometimes the situation doesn’t work out in your favor when you play by the rules.

It could be argued that this person feared for her life because the man that was abusing her was caught and now free and he blames her. If he is intent on finding a way to murder her, a restraining order won’t stop him. So in her mind it’s either play by the rules and allow for the potential of having this man murder her at any moment, living with this thought every day of her life or take care of this problem herself and deal with the consequences which is spend time in prison alive or live in fear of death.

I honestly sympathize and understand where this might be less revenge and more pre meditated self preservation.

I disagree. I think the reality inside that girl's head is a lot more threatening than the one you see from outside the situation, and that needs to be taken into account. But it's a subject I'm too close to so I'm going to stop it here. Good conversation. You make some good points. But there's no argument that will ever make me agree with you so let's leave it here.

[-] Cosmonauticus@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

Good conversation. That being said please never serve on a jury

It's John Grisham's "a time to kill", with the only difference that it was herself instead of the father.

[-] MerchantsOfMisery@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 weeks ago

If she knew he was likely to abuse her or someone else again, I'd say that's self-defense in my books.

In February 2018, four months before Volar’s death, a 15-year-old called 911 from Volar’s house, saying a man had given her drugs and was going to kill her. Officers found her in the street, drugged and shirtless. She alleged that Volar had been paying her for sex since she was 14. She warned them that he was also filming his abuse of other girls, including one named “Chrystal.”

Police found “hundreds” of videos of child sexual abuse in Volar’s home, including more than 20 he’d filmed himself. Some of those videos showed Kizer.

Volar was arrested and charged with child enticement and child sexual assault. But the same day, he was released. He remained free for months, and no criminal charges were officially filed.

Kenosha prosecutor Michael Graveley said that his office did not know the age of the girls in the videos, and delayed filing charges until they could determine whether they were minors.

But records obtained by The Post show that investigators described many of the girls being abused in Volar’s videos as appearing to be in their early and mid teens. One, they wrote, could have been as young as 12.

This story is also about how police and the prosecutor failed to do their job, and now two families are destroyed.

What the fuck is wrong with that prosecutor? You know whose age he did know? The fucking girl he drugged that they found in the street.

[-] BobGnarley@lemm.ee 6 points 3 weeks ago

He probably was into this shit too. Corruption runs deep.

[-] MerchantsOfMisery@lemmy.ml 6 points 3 weeks ago

People have no clue that a lot of prosecutors are just as corrupt, if not more corrupt than police and they often have easier access to judges in private to sway trials one way or another.

[-] Wildly_Utilize@infosec.pub 2 points 3 weeks ago

US Prosecutors are pretty up there on the evil scale

Why? What made this guy special such that direct evidence of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) would be found and no charges were filed? Because for most ordinary people, that would not be the outcome.

Or someone in the prosecution is also in to stuff like that.

In which case money would be discussed too.

They let Epstein prance around free for years, too.

[-] Drusas@fedia.io 3 points 3 weeks ago

Or connections.

[-] todd_bonzalez@lemm.ee 13 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Jesus Christ, they literally found videos of the man raping this girl, and they sent him back home to do it some more. Then they arrested the child victim for defending herself...

But it wasn't a trans woman so the right-wing "protect the children" crowd doesn't give a shit.

[-] Cephalotrocity@biglemmowski.win 29 points 3 weeks ago

Clearly she deserves prison because indescribable abuse and suffering isn't enough punishment. /s

[-] cordlesslamp@lemmy.today 1 points 3 weeks ago

She probably asked for it. /s

[-] ngwoo@lemmy.world 22 points 3 weeks ago

Can we sentence her to big trophy

[-] BobGnarley@lemm.ee 13 points 3 weeks ago

If she gets charged people should riot in the street.

[-] gAlienLifeform@lemmy.world 9 points 3 weeks ago

She's been charged and plead guilty (which took life with no possibility of parole off the table), but now it's a question of whether she gets prison time or an alternative for her sentence
