I only re tie the loose one, I've never heard of anyone redoing both. But your logic is sound. 😆

I usually start off intending to only retie, then I walk around for a bit, get annoyed, and do the other one.

Your strategy of accepting the inevitable makes more sense which is why I will promptly forget it.

I do this too, but only after a few years of IT where I learned that if one thing breaks it’s counterpart would soon break so might as well fix/replace while I’m working on the original problem.

I can see your point, but tying both shoes would never ever have occurred to me as an option (unless I noticed the other shoe getting loose too). So I get your colleagues' surprise.

I use a Turquoise Turtle knot. My shoes don't come untied by accident.

Ehh... I'll give the other one a tug to make sure it isn't loose. But I'm not going to untie and retie it unless I have to.

I just double knot so the laces dont usually come undone so I'd just do the one shoe

You might try making one small change in the way you tie your shoe and you will find you rarely have them come undone.

If there's a big difference in how tight both shoes are I'll do the 2nd as well.

I would never retie a shoe that's tied, but also I can never get my shoes the same tightness anyway so I have no motivation to try. My feet are a little over half a US shoe size different.

Please tell me you didn't start with the untied lace. If I saw you notice one of your shoes were untied and you started by un/retying the other one first I would immediately and permanently be convinced you were, or are about to become, a serial killer.

Once upon a time I would have said re tie just one. But now I have elastic laces. You just pull em tight and they stay that way. No tying required

It depends on what I’m doing. It’s a hassle if I were to tie them both if I was on the move but also useful if my current activity involves being stationary and I do tie them both.

Like car tires? Replace 1 at a time.

Replace front/back pair at a time.

Replace all 4 same time.

If one of your shoes came untied and the other one didn’t, then they weren’t equally tight last time you tied them.

Fun fact! IME, most people learned to tie their shoes incorrectly. Myself included.

If you know your knots, I learned to tie my shoes with a "Granny" knot. If you tie your shoes with a square knot, your shoe lace problems are vastly reduced.

Depends what shoes I'm wearing and how tight the other one is. If it's walking boots - the time I care about tying properly - I've learnt to accept the already-tied one being a bit looser if it's at a comfortable tightness and not slipping, knowing the freshly-tied one will adjust to match as I walk. Used to be the asymmetry would drive me mad if I didn't re-tie both.

Normally just the one, if I'm skateboarding or snowboarding I'll do them both.
