“I hid behind an alter ego. I spent my entire adult life hiding I was a huge weed head,"

Could definitely share a blunt with this guy, maybe several.

The weird thing to me is that I would assume the porn theater he was caught in was showing gay porn, but that part of the story was not made news.

Peewee’s playhouse was ahead of its time. Wholesome, wacky, and inclusive. I recently watched one of the playhouse specials over the holidays and it was just as good as I remembered it being as a kid.

Conservatives had it out for him and really prevented a quality content creator from bringing joy and entertainment to a lot of families.

If you have kids I suggest watching a few episodes as a family.

Laurence Fishburne was Cowboy Curtis.

“Take the blue pill, you wake up, as if this was all a dream. Take the red pill and you see how deep the playhouse goes.”

And Phil Hartman was Captain Carl. Hartman and Reubens were in The Groundlings together.

TIL rob zombie was a production assistant on the show.

[–] Default_Defect@midwest.social 8 points 4 months ago

That... makes sense.

[–] Entropywins@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

Really that's dope!

Similar oddity like that- Michael Keaton was a crewmember on Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood.

And Fred Rogers, ever Fred Rogers, had nothing but nice things to say about him and his later career.

The guy next to Mister Rogers looks really familiar too.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

No idea who that is, sorry.

I remember watching a few of the first episodes with my youngest and was happy to see that he enjoyed the insane wackyness of it all. I'm sure he would have enjoyed watching more of the silliness, but my partner wasn't going to have it. There's a lot of battles I have to fight pretty regularly, and this show was just not one of them. But... it was good to see my youngest enjoying an old show that was a part of my life back then.

Have to be honest though, Randy the bully really bothered me then and still bothers me now. Bullies suck, regardless of their form.

Waaaaiiiiit a minute, Pee-wee Herman was gay!? Next you'll be telling me Freddie Mercury was gay! Or Lance Bass!

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Freddie Mercury was bi, but regardless, both of them felt that it was okay for them to come out (although Mercury never outright stated it but he also didn't hide it). Reubens lived in fear of it because he was convinced it would destroy his career. It's really, really sad because he was an awesome guy.

[–] the_crotch@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Ironically Kevin spacey, who did way worse than jerk off in a porno theater, kind of salvaged his career to a degree by coming out as gay

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 4 months ago (1 children)

kind of salvaged his career to a degree

Did he though?

[–] the_crotch@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 months ago

Since his "I am a gay American" speech he's been in 5 movies and has 2 more upcoming.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 28 points 4 months ago

Poor guy lost his partner to AIDS too. It's so sad that people feel the need to hide themselves like this. I'm glad Cassandra Peterson finally felt comfortable enough to come out.

July 30th, 2023, he was 70 and had privately been battling leukemia and lung cancer for 6 years.

leukemia

Leukemia?

That's today's secret word!!

The man was a fantastic entertainer. This clip really warms my heart.

Pee Wee Herman appears on the 1991 MTV Music Awards

[–] HubertManne@moist.catsweat.com 8 points 4 months ago

Im really surprised as I don't think he could have easily come up in the last two or three decades.
