I literally just switched from Sync to Voyager on Android last night. So far, I'm enjoying Voyager much more.

Sync was fine, but the developer only pops in once in a great while, then he ghosts for months (or even years). Getting any problems resolved means waiting until he happens to show up again, then hoping he notices your specific complaint.

I managed to get .webm content to display in the app by catching him right before he posted a major update a couple years ago. But he hasn't responded to any other issues I've posted about since.

Me too but it's semi-broken right now and hasn't had an update in a long time. I really don't want to switch, though.

[–] spirinolas@lemmy.world 18 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Semi-broken? It seems to be working fine for me. Am I missing something?

[–] CidVicious@sh.itjust.works 14 points 3 days ago (2 children)

There's a major incompatibility with newer versions of the Lemmy software where Sync shows a comment count but cannot display the comments. So at the moment I can't see any comments from posts hosted on sh.itjust.works. I know that there's other less severe issues too (I think spoilers are semi-broken in some instances).

Still using Sync here, what exactly am I missing out on? Tried voyager years ago but coming from Reddit and using Sync for that, it was a pretty natural jump.

[–] DarkSirrush@lemmy.ca 43 points 3 days ago

It hasn't been updated in quite awhile, and I have heard some Lemmy features are still broken - I think some types of inline images and markdown mainly, and some upcoming api changes may break it completely in the nearish future.

Here is a comment I made in a relevant thread, where they discuss sync (here: https://lemmy.world/comment/14130358)

As someone who used sync on reddit for many years, I switched to Summit a few weeks ago and it's great. This post comparing a lot of lemmy apps made me finally take the plunge: https://lemmy.world/post/18159531

TLDR: A lot of formatting is messed up on sync.

Jerboa is still here baby lfg

(No surprise though sense it is maintined by lemmy devs iirc)

[–] IMALlama@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago (3 children)

There are literally three of us!

(or so it seems from these threads)

[–] JackbyDev@programming.dev 3 points 2 days ago

I'm using Jerboa and have been since the start. I see no reason to switch. It was a teeny bit rough around the edges in the earliest months following the Reddit API changes, but it's been smooth sailing since then.

What’s wrong with Avelon?

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The last update was a year ago.

[–] ThomasCrappersGhost@feddit.uk 5 points 2 days ago

I like the app…but this explains it being a bit glitchy.

[–] _spiffy@lemmy.ca 51 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I've been using connect and it's pretty great!

From my experience Photon is the best web client, Eternity is the best Android client and Voyager or Mlem seems to be the best iOS clients. In the free and open source side.

I don't wanna use proprietary client for the fediverse if great FOSS alternative exists.

But here are some proprietary client that looks great in my opinion Connect for Android and Arctic for iOS.

[–] dave@feddit.uk 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Arctic for iOS is superior in almost every way.

[–] sonalder@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Except in the freedom way :) But yes probably the best client iPhone users have.

[–] dave@feddit.uk 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Freedom as in FOSS? I vaguely remember the dev saying they may OS it eventually but yes for now it's closed. Still free though.

[–] sonalder@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 day ago

Yes it is free as in free beer, it connect to a network based on an open protocole of federated free (as in freedom) software instances. It also value users privacy and respect their digital integrity, could do more to that but it's not even comparable to reddit lol. It's not black or white.

[–] iAvicenna@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

is there a client that shows saved posts by saving time?

[–] Know_not_Scotty_does@lemmy.world 42 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Still hanging out here via Jeroba.

Connect for Lemmy is the goat

[–] sonalder@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 days ago (5 children)

Maybe but this isn't free and open source software...

Boost was my favourite client to use back on the reddit days. I migrated to lemmy before boost was announced for lemmy, but man it's a big help having it.

[–] Patch@feddit.uk 3 points 2 days ago

I love Boost. Being able to use it both for Lemmy and Reddit has been a big help in keeping me using Lemmy.

I'm usually a FOSS purist, but after trying a lot of different Reddit/Lemmy apps, it really is hands down my favourite. So much so that I've happily paid for it.

[–] Cris_Color@lemmy.world 33 points 3 days ago (4 children)

Thunder is my preferred client, with jerboa being second

Honestly thunder is perfect aside from being a tad slow to load sometimes. And it seems to have a little more tendency to experience network issues, but the UI is everything I could ask for

Jerboa might be my favorite if it showed full size link previews since I usually engage visually before I engage with text

Memmy was how I first got into Lemmy. Feels bad that it doesn’t exist anymore.

I actually found out about this a few days ago. I suddenly kept getting errors and found out the app i used, Boost, hadn't been updated in almost a year... Now running Voyager. How did i not notice? No idea.

[–] ProxyZeus@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

I mean boost is still truckin' just fine for me , but it is only one dude doing dev so I don't expect a crazy amount of updates from him

This is a clever way to do a survey on user's preferred mobile clients
