Me too but it's semi-broken right now and hasn't had an update in a long time. I really don't want to switch, though.
Semi-broken? It seems to be working fine for me. Am I missing something?
There's a major incompatibility with newer versions of the Lemmy software where Sync shows a comment count but cannot display the comments. So at the moment I can't see any comments from posts hosted on sh.itjust.works. I know that there's other less severe issues too (I think spoilers are semi-broken in some instances).
I don't want to switch either. Pretty sure the Reddit shit just ruined all the motivation for the developer. He probably lost a huge source of income too
I literally just switched from Sync to Voyager on Android last night. So far, I'm enjoying Voyager much more.
Sync was fine, but the developer only pops in once in a great while, then he ghosts for months (or even years). Getting any problems resolved means waiting until he happens to show up again, then hoping he notices your specific complaint.
I managed to get .webm content to display in the app by catching him right before he posted a major update a couple years ago. But he hasn't responded to any other issues I've posted about since.
I finally uninstalled it the other day. It's clear the dev has abandoned it.
Did you uninstall it purely because it hasn't received any updates or was there some feature you wanted or bug fixed that led you to that?
I've been using sync for nearly a decade (maybe longer, I forget when exactly) and it's not uncommon for LJ to not update sync for long periods of time, so I don't really see no updates in nearly a year as an issue. (Plus as a dev myself, I hate the idea of constant releases, though I do spacecraft software so maybe I'm just really oddly biased)
I'd been experiencing a bug where I couldn't see comments on communities from my local instance. It would show the comment count but not show any comments.
I'd been using sync for the same time, since LJ first released it. It's an issue because the Lemmy API is changing faster than Reddits, and he's also charging a heavy subscription fee. I think with that there should be an expectation of support and updates. At the very least, provide communication about what he's doing and working on.
I'm also a dev, and it's funny you say that because I hate the idea of NOT doing regular releases! You want to release small changes frequently, get the value out and get fast feedback. You don't want users to sit on bugs for 6 to 12 months while you wait for a huge big batch release. But I'm a dev who works primarily on backend serverless stuff, we can release as much as we want, every 5 minutes if we wanted to. Obviously phone app development has a lower release cadence as it has to be approved by the official stores and roll out, but the way LJ seems to ghost a project and then do a huge release is kinda weird.
I don't want to sit on an app that's buggy and getting zero updates while Lemmy instances keep getting updated, hoping that one day the dev might come back and update it.
The dude just needs to communicate what he's doing to the community.
Same here, but it does feel like the app has been abandoned by the developer
I wish I could say I was surprised. The sync dev fucked me in a premium reddit license years ago when they invalidated the existing licenses and made people pay again for the premium to keep having it on reddit.
Glad I went with voyager over them.
Same. The only thing I'd add is a filter word.
Don't forget connect. It's still getting updated.
That's probably why it was not chosen for this meme
I actually found out about this a few days ago. I suddenly kept getting errors and found out the app i used, Boost, hadn't been updated in almost a year... Now running Voyager. How did i not notice? No idea.
I mean boost is still truckin' just fine for me , but it is only one dude doing dev so I don't expect a crazy amount of updates from him
Wheres thunder?
Thunder is still being updated and their last patch was a few days ago.
Thats my point, I use it and its amazing :3
From my experience Photon is the best web client, Eternity is the best Android client and Voyager or Mlem seems to be the best iOS clients. In the free and open source side.
I don't wanna use proprietary client for the fediverse if great FOSS alternative exists.
But here are some proprietary client that looks great in my opinion Connect for Android and Arctic for iOS.
Arctic for iOS is superior in almost every way.
Except in the freedom way :) But yes probably the best client iPhone users have.
Freedom as in FOSS? I vaguely remember the dev saying they may OS it eventually but yes for now it's closed. Still free though.
Yes it is free as in free beer, it connect to a network based on an open protocole of federated free (as in freedom) software instances. It also value users privacy and respect their digital integrity, could do more to that but it's not even comparable to reddit lol. It's not black or white.
Connect for Lemmy is the goat
What’s wrong with Avelon?
The last update was a year ago.
I like the app…but this explains it being a bit glitchy.
I have no idea what any of this means.
Mobile apps that have "died" - Voyager still lives on, stronger.
By died, it means no longer being maintained.
is there a client that shows saved posts by saving time?
