Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF 10/19
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

Future for him.
Hopefully not, as he doesn't deserve any future.
Is there a German word for "an endorsement that has a net negative effect"?
"Bärendienst", as in "A well meaning action that has unintended negative consequences"?
And literally meaning "bear service", I think? That's hilarious. The most formidable beast of the wilds of Europe, simply a bumbling little guy always making things worse when they try to help
it's from an 1800 year old Indian fable about a bear who crushes his friend's skull with a rock in an attempt to kill an annoying fly.
many european languages seem to have the expression.
Yeah I recognized the german as being equivalent to the danish bjørnetjeneste, which also means bear service or slightly more accurately a bear favor.
Oooh that's cool, thank you for sharing
I'll take it!
Yeah, the whole of the EU knows Hungary is our corrupt little member.
This might make some far right wingers realize that fascism is only good for the powerful and wealthy.
ha ha, no, right wingers only realize stuff when they personally are affected and sometimes not even then. See the USA right now.
is the german government fighting it in any way or are they going to wait until it’s too late and then cry?
Worse: They try to make them small again by becoming them. Spoiler: It didn't work. The AfD is now stronger then ever and has other parties draged torwards their inhuman propaganda.
Fuck yeah, nationalist Germany is exactly what I needed for my 2020’s bingo card.
what is missing?
just that i can prepare ...
Both are the human equivalent of loud wet sharts.
What do the nazis thought of central Europeans? This would only be survival instinct to never ally with them
I am not sure, they delineated based on race not necessarily nationality, they hated Slavic people but Hungarians are not Slavic.
All in all, Hitler gave back territory lost in WWI to Hungary, so I think they just didn't care.
Fuck Hitler, Szálasi and Horthy with a spiky stick though.
Weren't Nazis also central Europeans?
They thought the same stuff about Jews and Salvic people so, and usually, Germany is considered western Europe
Germany is typically classified as Western European so no.
Edit: I'm wrong.
It's literally a German concept, https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitteleuropa
Oh I did not know that. That's fair.
I think it's the past of Germany if anything...
only if you assume their Nazi problem ever went away
Their Nazis in charge problem went away.
that might change in just under 2 weeks from now
It indeed might. But not for now.
lol, the AfD is literally in the Bundestag and all state parliaments
Do you understand what being in charge means? Because they aren’t.
there are polls saying they could come in second in the elections this month. and some CDU members planning a coalition. I wouldn't be so optimistic. regardless if they win or not, the mainstream parties have already adopted their Nazi propaganda to win over their base so their goal is already being enacted
Yes, I am aware that nothing in human civilization lasts forever apart from xenophobia and bigotry. Stating facts is not optimism. Until they gain power again, they are still Germany's past, not Germany's future.
no, you just have a very mainstream liberal view of how power actually works. it's not just party in charge = this is the political course of the country
No, I have a "very mainstream liberal view" of how time works. Until something that happens happens again, it's part of the past.
I have no idea how you can read the words, "I am aware that nothing in human civilization lasts forever apart from xenophobia and bigotry" and then try to act like I said the exact opposite. Or did you just not read them?
Unfortunately he's probably right.
