EVERYTHING IN YOUR POCKETS GOES IN THE BIN

My experience with the employees leads me to believe that they may not be our best and brightest.

I’d like to say that I’m surprised, but I am not.

[–] Agrivar@lemmy.world 31 points 2 months ago (3 children)

Right?

I'm a big supporter of normal unions - but "unions" for government thugs feel different. We all know the police union only exists to keep cops away from consequences, I'm sure the airport security theater thugs were in a similar boat.

[–] CarbonatedPastaSauce@lemmy.world 11 points 2 months ago

No government employee should have a union that helps them fight against the interests of the public they are (hypothetically) serving. It's nonsensical.

[–] macaw_dean_settle@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It keeps the incompetent around.

[–] monarch@preferred.social 3 points 2 months ago

The TSA regularly has people get more handsy than they need to.

[–] Typotyper@sh.itjust.works 24 points 2 months ago

America has a history of issuing badges and guns that way

[–] CarbonatedPastaSauce@lemmy.world 14 points 2 months ago (2 children)

TSA is one of the biggest boondoggles in recent history. I have never set foot in one of those fucking scanners (which have NEVER prevented a terrorist attack) and I never will, I have made them pat me down every time until I figured out another shortcut to get around the whole thing. If everyone had done that at the start we could have nipped the whole fucking thing in the bud and maybe saved another shred of our disappearing liberty. Instead we have..... this. gestures wildly around in all directions

[–] CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 months ago

The purpose of the TSA is to be a job creator. No representative wants to go on record to kill those jobs.

[–] swampdownloader@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

What’s the shortcut, be a pilot?

[–] CarbonatedPastaSauce@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

No, it has nothing to do with special access of any kind. I wish I could tell but if enough people do it, they'll catch on. And I'm tired of being molested every time I fly. I'll give you a small hint, I discovered it when I had a surgery that had my arm in a sling for a while and I had to fly, so I was physically unable to use their stupid fucking scanner machine even if I wanted to.

Some have calves the size of cantaloupes

While there are tons of problems with the TSA, protecting those that aren't the brightest is part of the reason unions exist, isn't it?

[–] ShadowRam@fedia.io 2 points 2 months ago

No. the reason unions exist is to

  • Force Companies to Protect their workers well being and provide better working conditions
  • Force Companies to share the profit of the company with the employee's

Unfortunately a side effect is that unions also protect the stupid/incompetent/lazy to the detriment of the company AND union.

[–] Appleseuss@lemmy.world 51 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Ya know, I'm fine with this one. TSA doesn't protect or stop anything. It's all security theatre.

[–] ansiz@lemmy.world 18 points 2 months ago

To be fair the TSA is just a federal jobs program and the workers are at least better off than if they worked for a private company doing the same thing. But that probably last too long under Trump. Then the TSA will be shuttered, replaced with private companies and AI the workers turned into contractors with no health benefits.

[–] i_stole_ur_taco@lemmy.ca 16 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Hey man, the number of major terrorist attacks the TSA has stopped is non-negative!

Edit: wait, they haven’t caused any, have they?

[–] Rooskie91@discuss.online 40 points 2 months ago (3 children)

Guy with long, storied history of hating unions destroys unions. Like did they even try to think about their decision?

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 13 points 2 months ago

Cults don't think.

They're very handy that way.

[–] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 9 points 2 months ago

Like did they even try to think

No, never.

[–] CarbonatedPastaSauce@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

I don't think most of the rank and file GOP supporters do a lot of life planning past the next few hours.

[–] CircaV@lemmy.ca 34 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Not a single person of the 77 million who voted for Grump OR the idiots who didn’t bother voting are ever going to get one IOTA of sympathy from me Fuck each and every single one of them all. Enjoy your abject poverty and job loss. I’ll enjoy laughing at you.

[–] tiefling@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

2/3 of the voting public looked at Trump and didn't consider him a threat

[–] CircaV@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

This is the last time a bunch of rednecks in Wisconsin get to dictate what happens to the global economy.

[–] Jhex@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

I want to believe this!

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

I think the shorthand for this is "womp womp" but I still feel kinda dirty typing it

[–] owenfromcanada@lemmy.world 30 points 2 months ago

Ah, but at least minorities are suffering as well. /s

[–] TheReturnOfPEB@reddthat.com 22 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

good

i have been molested by TSA officers at the Denver airport. i hope that it becomes illegal for them to quit.

[–] CarbonatedPastaSauce@lemmy.world 12 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Same. Every time I have to get a pat down because I won't step into their fucking machine, I consider it government molestation. Fuckers.

edit: I am not trying to minimize whatever happened to you, sorry if my comment comes across that way.

[–] FreakinSteve@lemmy.world 12 points 2 months ago

To be fair, fuck the goddamn TSA in the neck with a red hot poker. If Musk had abolished them on Day One he would be heralded as a hero.

[–] CircaV@lemmy.ca 10 points 2 months ago

Ahahahahahahahahahahaha 🤣🤣🤣🖕🖕🖕🐆

[–] PalmTreeIsBestTree@lemmy.world 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

They were on borrowed time anyway. No one likes the TSA.

[–] GeeDubHayduke@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 months ago

Hey now, the Toilet Safety Administration has kept me from falling into many a toilet.

[–] Itdidnttrickledown@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

Last time I flew they were so worried as to why I was sweating . Who knew you would sweat in train car with the AC busted? Not them even after I told them.

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemm.ee 4 points 2 months ago

Oh no how unfortunate.
