A scheduled concert in New York City by singer Kehlani was canceled on Monday under pressure from the administration of Mayor Eric Adams. Though the administration expressed “security concerns” about the concert, the real reason for the cancellation is Kehlani’s outspoken opposition to the US-facilitated genocide of the Palestinians in Gaza.

This flagrant act of censorship is the second time that a scheduled concert by the singer has been canceled in the past several weeks. It is part of an ongoing, antidemocratic campaign to suppress any criticism of Israel and of its backer the United States.

I'm sure conservatives are outraged by this glaring example of cancel culture and defend to the death her right to free speech.

The concert should go on anyway.

Adams is a giant turd. He's terrible and I hope Zohran ousts him in the next mayoral election.

Eric Adams is a sleazy bich, when the time comes for the workers to fight back he will face the same fate as all the other corrupt politicans and Capitalists.

He looks like one, too, like Marsellus Wallace.

anti-genocide singer

Is this a singer who has made singing against the Palestinian genocide the main message of her songs?
Or is this a singer who sings, and just happens to have an anti-genocide opinion?

Not that one of these options would make Adams' choice better - it's wrong no matter what - but it's an important distinction imho.

Or are these fearfully conservative* politicians actually just pushing artists into taking a stance, by being so censorial?

* yes, he's a Democrat

[–] Lupo@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Nope, he independent now, which in this case means, Trump owned conservative.

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 2 points 1 hour ago

independent

Too chickenshit to admit he's a turncoat?

[–] ramenshaman@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

Time to bring in some pro-genocide singers then, Eric?

[–] iAvicenna@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Eric Adams who is a member of the Democrat party. They are all in this for the seat and the power unfortunately.

[–] Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

I wouldn't say all. But most. And it doesn't seem to be about the power. I think they genuinely support the genocide. The support from Israel, DNC leaders, conservative "moderates", and powerful individuals is just a plus.
