I want to get a book like this except when you open it all it says is "made ya look!"

[–] flandish@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

or just one word, fill in the blank style, with handwritten “yes” in it.

I feel like this post is just an excuse for OP to respond comments with futurama pics

Should be a reason to post more often, tbh

It’s always fun to find those (Is my kid [problem]?) books in a parent’s library later in life. Mostly because it’s never (Am I effectively helping my kid or actively worsening a problem?) books because parents didn’t seem to consider their own roles and effects in childrearing, and kinda quietly implies you can easily force your kid to be compliant with your expectations. Especially older books.

The book is about children with dyslexia.

[–] clay_pidgin@sh.itjust.works 27 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Mine had "parenting a retarded child".

They were pioneers of the "is he stupid?" meme. Sorry you had to find out this way though.

I can't swallow that!

In second thought... Forget the kid!!

[–] punkcoder@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Depends… do you have siblings? (Shout out to all those tortured by sibling rivalry)

I am not! My mother had me tested!

[–] LaunchesKayaks@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

My mom had "Parenting the Strong-Willed Child"

It did not help her at all. Only thing that actually helped was the right depression meds after trying so many for like 12 years.

Only thing that helped me was turning 18.

After that, I became a strong-willed adult.

Perfect late mother day gift.

[–] superkret@feddit.org 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yes you should.
I'm afraid your parents are Angelsachsen.

Yes, but not quite as worried as if they had a copy of 'To Raise Up A Child', so there's that.

[–] bleistift2@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 week ago (2 children)

What’s wrong with that book? If I ever had kids (God forbid), I’d read such a book to get ahead in the mess I’ve created for myself.

How else are you supposed to learn?

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

It very clearly advocates for and instructs people in child abuse.

[–] toy_boat_toy_boat@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (2 children)

it was funnier back when the post title was something like, 'i'm 43 and i juus found this on my mom's bookshelf'.

[–] Sabin10@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (3 children)

At that age you might have undiagnosed ADHD or autism. As a child you were just special or different and now you have a lifetime of coping mechanisms and masking techniques.
