The presidential thing would have been to launch a hypersonic missile at a certain Caucasian Domicile.

this is actually amazing, I've never seen a nicer and more elegant way to shout "DO NOT RESIST" into a person's face as they get brutalized by the police

simply 10/10, no notes, a goddamn perfect encapsulation of liberalism

Let me introduce you to a tweet by the Liberal Patron Saint of Voting and "Good Trouble" - John Lewis.

I was beaten bloody by police officers. But I never hated them. I said, 'Thank you for your service.'

I'm sure the guard will feel very guilty for breaking my jaw while I peacefully surrender

The military is very famous for feeling guilt about brutalizing peaceful and compliant civilians, just like in the movies

[–] HelluvaBottomCarter@hexbear.net 26 points 10 hours ago

Libs get their Law & Order fetish fulfilled and they get to blame it on trump. Here is Gavin basically telling people that they better be peaceful or the troops he didn't send will hurt them. He's reassuring everyone that there are plenty of cops. This is a threat to normal people and an assurance for his class.

SO THE OTHER PARTS OF THE NATIONAL GUARD YOU STILL CONTROL YOU'RE HAVING DO WHAT THEN?

THE PAYROLL YOU'RE GIVING THESE 2K? YOUR BUDGET? IF NOT YOU DOCK IT RETROACTIVELY IF THEY COMPLY?

GIVE CONFLICTING ORDERS? CUT THE NATIONAL GUARD BUDGET IN RETALIATION? PROPORTIONATE REFUSAL TO COMPLY WITH THE FED? DECLARE A CONFLICTING STATE OF EMERGENCY? USE THE STATE ATTORNEY? REVOKE AGREEMENTS WITH THE FED? ANNOUNCE WHERE THESE GUYS ARE HEADED?

ANYTHING?

Maybe if someone lies to him and says the 2000 the fed took are all homeless he'll get out there with a bat and go feral. Worth a shot.

[–] WoodScientist@hexbear.net 27 points 12 hours ago

How about he just gives them all extended leave. They're all now on paid vacation and can go home to their families.

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 23 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Somebody need to Jedi Mind Trick the gov and get him to know in his bones that EVERY National Guard in Cali is a homeless person doing cosplay.

[–] poppy_apocalypse@hexbear.net 43 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Why are you letting the feds do that, you gigantic fucking coward?

[–] Xiisadaddy@lemmygrad.ml 20 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

So i hate the guy as much as anyone else, but legally he can't stop them. Federal authority supercedes his. That might be confusing because of the whole Biden vs Texas thing that happened but that's just because Bidens a little removed and refused to nationalize the Texas national guard back then. Legally speaking as soon as the national guard gets the orders to nationalize they have to ignore all state level orders that contradict their federal ones. Even if Newsom ordered them all to stay in base they wouldn't. Now that being said he should definitely do more than tweet about it or whatever, but he's a cowardly lib so yknow.

[–] darkcalling@hexbear.net 13 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah people forget that when the US was fighting USSR in image wars and the Little Rock Nine spectacle went down, the governor there tried to block them using his national guard and in response Kennedy or Johnson or whoever federalized them, sent them back to base and sent in the US airborne 101 and there wasn't shit angry whitey could do about it but seethe and they were clearly very angry about it but not quite enough to try an insurrection (that would have been crushed most likely and we must remember that was racist white people who would've gotten the boot, maximum reluctance).

The president can absolutely do this and governors cannot do shit. Federal authority is pretty much supreme unless you get a court order that they're breaking some arcane legal rule about it and then only if the president cares to obey that.

What states CAN do is have a non-national guard kind of state guard militia. Thing is those don't get federal funds, can't really use federal military gear, and tend to be just a bunch of good old boys with rifles used to intimidate minorities. But even those can't really do anything if the national guard gets deployed, the feds can brush them aside and unless they're willing to fight and die against the feds they're going to get out of the way.

So the problem then is there is no left party that would ever punish Republicans or cause them to want restraint on use of these powers by abusing them towards them.

Basically if racist whites angry about black kids being in school with their white kids last century didn't find a way to stop this kind of thing there really isn't any legal way or trickery that can be used here to stop or sabotage this is my conviction.

[–] Xiisadaddy@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 1 hour ago

Yeah after the civil war the US really locked down that the states are servile to the feds and dont get a say in it. The only thing they could potentially do would be to have some sort of popular grassroot effort and the state just refuses to stop it. Like if californians stopped filing federal taxes en masse and the californians refused to enforce the federal tax law for example. The feds lack mass manpower for things like that so short of invading the state with the US military to collect taxes they couldn't enforce it without local police.

The best thing they can do now is sue, and start weaponizing regulations. For example doing constant long drawn out inspections at all their ports of entry to slow down trade. This would hurt the national economy and could give them some leverage in negotiations with the feds.

His handlers calculated the exact middle ground between “let the president deploy troops to brutalize Californians” and “don’t let that happen” and this is that message

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 29 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Newsom: "What you guys wrote for me - I mean crafted for me - is poetry in motion. Brilliant. Just brilliant. 5 stars."

Ace Consultant Inc ace consultants: "Thank, Gov Gav."

McKinsey & Company: right-o guvna

[–] ClimateStalin@hexbear.net 43 points 14 hours ago

Also bro you don’t have to let him take charge of the California National Guard, except in very specific circumstances that do not currently apply the governor has final control over the national guard.

[–] Rom@hexbear.net 27 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

So is it wrong what the federal government is doing, Newsom? What are you going to do about it?

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 24 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

He's gonna take the bull by the horns. He's gonna post boldly and aggressively on social media.

[–] keepcarrot@hexbear.net 23 points 13 hours ago

If there were a ballot box nearby, you'd have to hold him back from voting

[–] EnsignRedshirt@hexbear.net 16 points 13 hours ago

"If I were the president, I would only send 1000 national guard troops to quell riots."

Let's try to get a stew goin' on the lathe.

Look, I'm all for peaceful protests. All for it. All for it. But fucking rioters are gonna get people killed.

---

I need a little help. "Get a stew goin'" must be at least 3 years out of date. What's the current equivalent?

[–] WoodScientist@hexbear.net 7 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

How does one cook a stew on a lathe?

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 1 points 3 hours ago

Connect the break-open-in-case-of-Apocalypse apparatus that converts the lathe's spin into electricity, plug in the countertop burner that rests on the metal housing of the lathe, and you got your stew goin'.

Ninja edit. I forgot a step. You need a horse plus the the literal-horsepower to electricity gizmo to connect to the lathe otherwise - how are you gonna get it to spin?
