ghost in the shell, i couldnt understand that show for the longest time, until near the end of its life.

OG medical shows; ER predates house by like 10years, and went on like 12+seasons. only stopped at the later seasons, because house was better at that point.

Tales from the Loop. I describe it as Eldritch Mundanity.

[–] Aksamit@slrpnk.net 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

This was a beautiful show!

It's based on a art book that's very good. Electric State was based on a another book also by Simon Stålenhag.

[–] FreakinSteve@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

We do not acknowledge the existence of Netflix's The Electric State

Hey it looks good. That's the only good thing I can say about it.

Nichijou and High Maintenance are two that come to mind. Sort of opposite ends of the spectrum, but both are slice of life shows that are much more about vibes than plot.

Also if you like Home Movies then Dr Katz is a must

The Red Green Show

Easy-going comedy with minimal plot, mostly there to tie together an episode of shorter skits. Some Boomer humor, but not too cringe, I think.

I watch King of the Hill if i need to slow down after a busy day

[–] Randelung@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

If you're not opposed to anime: Frieren.

Totally chill, nothing complicated, hardly any plot arcs, pure bliss.

[–] Frostbeard@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago

Letterkenny. Mostly character driven

[–] InfiniteHench@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

Letterkenny, maybe

[–] Zenith@lemm.ee 4 points 3 days ago

The Wire is one of the best tv shows ever made and it’s a slow burn especially in season one

[–] FreakinSteve@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Midnight Diner: Tokyo Stories and Extraordinary Attorney Woo are the greatest tv shows ever created. There will be no discussion.

[–] SGGeorwell@lemmy.world 31 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Cosmos by Carl Sagan. It a science miniseries that I love dearly, but it’s like video Quaaludes.

[–] SorteKanin@feddit.dk 1 points 2 days ago

The sequel with Neil deGrasse Tyson is also really good.

[–] pineapplelover@lemm.ee 4 points 3 days ago

Breaking Bad was excruciatingly slow for me

“Welcome Back Kotter” is about remedial education class so probably that.

[–] Epp2@lemmynsfw.com 12 points 4 days ago (7 children)

The IT Crowd, and Black Books.

Lodge 49. Young guy joins a fictional group based on masons and other similar groups. It's a hanging with friends show with some plot.

Modern family.

It’s just funny enough to be entertaining and has some loose plot that’s fine to follow. Easily forgettable, but great for throwing on. Also, it’s cool to watch the kids on that show grow up over its 10 year run.

Community

Parks and rec

Are others I would toss on for easy to watch. Although community and P&R hide a TON of jokes that make it even funnier if you pay attention.

I gotta throw Scrubs in the ring here. Skip season 9.

[–] Strider@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It ends at season 8, there's no season 9 😁

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Yup, I don't know what I was thinking. Must have been thinking of some other show with 9 seasons. 🥸

Man how has no one said Friends? That's basically a white noise machine on loop for our house.

[–] letsgo2themall@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Friends is a really funny show if you skip over all the Ross and Rachael garbage. Chandler and Monica was a better love story.

Northern Exposure is an amazing and very gentle show, if you can handle 90s tv.

[–] BeMoreCareful@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

I've always had a soft spot for this show, but I haven't seen it in years.

Watch it on Amazon or the music wont make sense

The Simpsons comes to mind. There's usually a plot, but it's not too complicated and each episode is self contained for the most part. Seinfeld is similar with possibly less plot (it is a show about nothing after all).

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 1 points 2 days ago

early to mid simpson was golden, modernized version isnt tha tgood, and shouldve ended the show long time ago.

[–] Godort@lemmy.ca 11 points 4 days ago

Basically any sitcom made for TV and not a streaming service.

[–] hperrin@lemmy.ca 10 points 4 days ago

Dead Like Me is fairly slow, but really interesting. Same with Coupling. Two great shows.

[–] AceFuzzLord@lemm.ee 6 points 4 days ago

I haven't seen it in years, so I could be misremembering things, but The Golden Girls.
