Gov. Kathy Hochul isn’t ready to endorse socialist Zohran Mamdani’s mayoral run yet, she said Thursday – as she slammed his plans to raise taxes on the rich.

“I’m focused on affordability and raising taxes on anyone does not accomplish that,” she told reporters during an event at LaGuardia Airport.

The Democratic governor had congratulated Mamdani after his apparent win, but notably didn’t endorse him in November’s general election.

Hey, Kathy. Screw you. We'll replace you in the next election.

Idk should I be analogizing FDR? I guess I’ll take the chance for now. FDR was not perfect.

Vote blue no matter who

…right guys?

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 3 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago) (1 children)

Edit: I think I read your post backwards. Leaving my old response below anyway.

Yes. Do you think a republican would be nicer to him?

Or do you not get how first past the post works?

If this lady is not to your liking, you primary her.

[–] loonsun@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

They aren't talking about her they are talking about the current Mayororal candidate she isn't supporting despite him being the Democratic nominee

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

Oooooh... Yeah, that makes way more sense

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.world 4 points 6 hours ago

Where are the establishment dems mocking the “bOtH siDes” people?

Do you think, maybe, establishment dems aren’t progressive?

The rich can, categorically, afford more taxes

[–] shawn1122@lemm.ee 1 points 31 minutes ago

Yeah this is not a well constructed thought by her. Need to go back together drawing boars with that one.

If the rich paid their fair share in taxes, life would be more affordable for the majority of people if politicians do their jobs. It's a big if, and clearly one Kathy doesn't believe in.

[–] Angry_Autist@lemmy.world 1 points 5 hours ago

The rich can, and always do, use their wealth to avoid taxes

[–] surph_ninja@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago

“I’m focused on affordability” for the rich.

She’s a fucking fascist monster. Bold to act like she’s concerned about spending, after she sent in the national guard in response to a drop in crime.

This from the person who spent $600 million in taxpayer dollars on a new stadium that her husband's company has a food service contract for.

Isn’t this the same person who wanted to set up an emergency hotline for CEOs?

[–] Nasan@sopuli.xyz 4 points 9 hours ago

Almost wish they had so New Yorkers could flood the line claiming to be CEOs.

The rot within the DNC is so pervasive. So captured by rich people and corporate lobby.

[–] verdantbanana@lemmy.world 23 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago) (2 children)

no rot spreading

what we are seeing is and has always been the Democrat party

Obama chose someone who supports segregation and that same person later became president, Harris hosted a celebrity filled gala and invited Republicans while citizens who were refused entry protested outside for everything the Democrats supposedly stand for, Walz as a governor teamed up with Trump to use police to manhandle pipeline protestors, and the list goes on

[–] Angry_Autist@lemmy.world 1 points 5 hours ago

^^ This is propaganda

[–] goferking0 12 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago)

It's spreading in the sense they are fine being so open with it

[–] RubberElectrons@lemmy.world 25 points 15 hours ago

You guys expect otherwise from Cuomo's assistant governor??

She's a snake, like all of those establishment fuckheads.

[–] eestileib@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

New Yorkers have an amazing ability to elect slimy fuck bags.

They're almost catching up to us in California. 😏

[–] HasturInYellow@lemmy.world 2 points 9 hours ago

I think it would be more accurate to say that slimey fuck bags are shockingly good at getting elected globally.

"I'm focused on affordability, and how can I afford to participate in political corruption if our ill-gotten gains are subject to taxation and scrutiny?"

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 46 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

What's hochuls net worth?

Over 3million? Hrmmm I wonder why she's not on the fun bus.

[–] Angry_Autist@lemmy.world 1 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

3 million isn't even wealthy anymore

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Wealthy enough to care about taxes and enough to not pay them.

[–] Angry_Autist@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

Honestly 3mil doesn't give you access to the really good tax options like running a charity or multistate cattle ranch

[–] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 24 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Honestly Mamdani should start telling rich people that they will benefit from these taxes too. Less homeless people and drug addicts by giving them housing and drug clinics or something.

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 19 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

They care about profits short term, very few large companies competently plan long term.

If they thought about it for a minute yes it's more costly for like a generation and the next generation is cheaper and the generation after that cheaper still. Combine that with a healthier population you end up with more production for less cost and specifically less risk to business because work comp wouldn't need to exist.

[–] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 7 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago) (1 children)

They care about individual profits. If everyone contributes their fair share, but billionaires don't contribute, they have more profit. But society is currently falling apart because they don't contribute their fair share, and now billionaires whine about it falling apart.

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 4 points 17 hours ago

In either situation the solution is universal healthcare because profits would increase either way just not immediately, these billionaires never die so it's not like they wouldn't see the backend increase before they die.

“I’m focused on affordability and raising taxes on anyone does not accomplish that,” she told reporters during an event at LaGuardia Airport.

What a load of fucking bullshit. Rich people can afford to pay more in taxes. That’s why they pay more in taxes.

[–] GissaMittJobb@lemmy.ml 52 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

As far as I'm concerned, Hochul can go right ahead and fuck herself on account of her attempted ratfucking of the congestion pricing, and doubly so for arbitrarily lowering the price and dealing a massive blow to future infrastructure in the process.

[–] kkj@lemmy.dbzer0.com 19 points 16 hours ago

She also fucked over right to repair (unilaterally, after it passed).

[–] IcePee@lemmy.beru.co 62 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

It's OK, he doesn't need her endorsement anyway, just the electorate's. At this stage I think an establishment democrat endorsement will do more harm to Mamdani's campaign than this shun will do.

[–] knightmare1147@lemmy.world 17 points 18 hours ago

I'm worried the Democrats are going to come out of their collective hole and pretend this was their idea from the beginning and poison zohran's policies somehow until he's too ineffective and unpopular to continue.

Worst case scenario in my head, but I don't feel it's unwarranted. Dem party fucked over Bernie and now that they have no credibility they'll drag everyone into the mud.

[–] nkat2112@sh.itjust.works 11 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

“I’m focused on affordability and raising taxes on anyone does not accomplish that,” she told reporters

I'm inclined to think this is a flat-out falsehood.

[–] DancingBear@midwest.social 3 points 13 hours ago

No see, she’s focused on affordability for her donors to be able to afford larger yachts than they already have…. 👀

[–] Bakkoda@sh.itjust.works 23 points 19 hours ago

Hochul is just another pile of shit in a long line of shit.
