When all the german immigrants showed up they knew how to make two things, bad chocolate and good pretzels. Which was all they needed.

And ice cream apparently

[–] 7bicycles@hexbear.net 8 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Now imagining the alt history where the german immigrants of pennsylvania where from the north and you find Matjes Bites in every store

[–] OptimusSubprime@hexbear.net 22 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Don't forget about Philly Cheesesteaks and Amish Fried Chicken.

[–] PKMKII@hexbear.net 15 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Philly soft pretzels, Primanti Bros, scrapple…

Oh I forgot about Dietz and Watson

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 19 points 5 days ago (2 children)

You'll take my Utz cheese balls from my cold dead hands

Which will probably be soon, considering I eat Utz cheese balls

[–] SovietBeerTruckOperator@hexbear.net 11 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I really like Herr's Old Bay chips, cuz they use actual Old Bay, not the overly salty "Crab Mix" that fucking Utz uses!

Sorry can you tell I'm originally from the Baltimore area?

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Herr's is good too

Love their jalapeño cheddar cheese puffs

They make old bay cheese curls too.

I had to look it up....by god, treatlerism is out of control

Okay look... They're actually pretty good, when you're drunk at least.

Pennsylvania is so treat-pilled they have not one but two Hershey treat companies; Hershey creamery is an ice cream company out of Pennsylvania unrelated to the chocolate company (and yes, there’s been a bunch of lawsuits between the two).

Don't forget about Wawa and Sheetz, elevating gas stations in the treat category as well

I appreciate that Wawa doesn’t mark up its treats as much as the other gas stations. Every time I go to a 7/11 or some other random stop I’m reminded of how bad gas station prices can be.

[–] PKMKII@hexbear.net 3 points 4 days ago

No disrespect to Wawa or Sheetz, but they are mere ants before the gas station treat behemoth that is Buc-ee’s.

This is Royal Farms erasure

[–] sleeplessone@lemmy.ml 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I thought Royal Farms was from the south?

[–] SovietBeerTruckOperator@hexbear.net 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Well, Maryland is kinda the South.

[–] sleeplessone@lemmy.ml 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

It is south of the Mason Dixon Line.

It's always been in a bit of a limbo. Baltimore had riots during the Civil War between pro-Confederates and pro-Unionists (most of the Unionists were German immigrants interestingly since they tended to lean more left at the time).

Baltimore: where the industrial decay of the North meets the casual racism of the South.

Washington D.C.: Southern Efficiency and Northern Hospitality (ascribed to JFK)

Northern Hospitality

I’ve never been randomly shouted at by store owners in DC?

[–] Rom@hexbear.net 11 points 4 days ago

commercial-district is also in Pennsylvania. Breezewood, PA

[–] iridaniotter@hexbear.net 13 points 5 days ago

[–] Homer_Simpson@hexbear.net 13 points 5 days ago

I had to google. I never even heard of that. I never see ads.

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 7 points 5 days ago

Jury is still out, he's too young.

[–] P1d40n3@hexbear.net 6 points 5 days ago

Baby nut is the future of the democratic party.

I will not take any questions

Still shocks me every time I see those two words next to eachother

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 12 points 5 days ago (1 children)
