ITT: centrists whining because a minor celebrity shows solidarity with a vulnerable minority.

Gavin Newsom is the epitome of the liberal elite who talk the talk but don't walk the walk. He criminalizes homelessness instead of working to address its systemic causes and is deep in the pockets of corporate and wealthy donors. His whole appeal is just posturing against Trump. It boggles my mind that my mom likes the guy.

Newsom is just one more rich California family trying to establish a political dynasty.

Millions of beds in homeless shelters gave been built with his programs, yes, he does the bullshit harm tactics, but he's spent way more money on real solutions than any other CA governor. One of the attack points Republicans have come up with is attacking him on the ''rise in in homelessness by millions'' what they don't say is that stat is coming from the millions of homeless people who are now being counted as they have shelters to sleep in now. They are calling it a rise because the number isn't a guess anymore because they have shelter. Don't fall for the bullshit. We have to not punish the politics that are actually spending money where he want it.

As a non-Californian I used to like him but that's because all the news coverage I saw was positive and focusing on thE "talk the talk".

Then I started to see more that was critical of his actions and my opinion changed.

It seems like the increased attention since January over his posturing seems to have highlighted his shortcomings too.

And somehow this is news…. Can we get Pat Sajak to weigh in? What about Bob Eubanks? Clearly we need to know what game show hosts think!

It shines a spotlight on the fact that Newsome has suddenly pivoted on this transgender issue. (basically as a precursor to running for president) And people should know that this shithead has no actual integrity and will do or say whatever it takes to get the conservatives to like him more for the general election (he's pretty confident that Dems will choose him regardless of his policies apparently.) So, if he's altering his policy on transgender youth, it almost certainly means that he's gonna attempt the Democrats continually failing strategy of appealing to conservatives.

I really don’t care who he’s not supporting. I want to know who he IS supporting.

[–] webadict@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That's kind of related, though. He used to support trans kids until he felt like it might affect his electability. If he isn't willing to stand by his morals, he is only supporting the money.

[–] SpacetimeMachine@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

I think they were saying they want to know who Jennings is supporting, not Newsom.

[–] webadict@lemmy.world 1 points 15 minutes ago

... That makes sense. Whoops!

This article is how I learned that Ken Jennings is now hosting the show. IIRC, that was the dude who had the longest win streak in the history of the show, wasn't he?

[–] kingofthezyx@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 day ago

He is actually a pretty amazing host - better than Alex was in some ways. Extremely personable with the contestants, funny, offers context on some clues because he knows so much, and you can tell the contestants have genuine respect for him because he's been there and succeeded better than anyone.

[–] derry@midwest.social 24 points 2 days ago (5 children)

Judges will allow this answer since it is in the form of a question. A better answer would have been "Who had the longest running streak on Jeopardy?"
