The Firefly episodes that were never aired.

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 19 points 8 months ago

They actually released them on video and streaming. The lost episodes never made it past script stage, but I think they were done as comic books?

excited about the looney tunes

StarCraft: Ghost. Great concept, from back when Blizzard made passion projects / before Activision killed them. I have no doubt this game would have been a fucking blast.

Also the recently abandoned KOTOR remake. Fucking amazing game, but one that didn't age well at all. A modernized version would have been fantastic. That 2 second clip of Revan in the trailer generated an insane amount of hype - people definitely want this one.

[–] bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de 8 points 8 months ago

Back then Blizzard still had artistic integrity and wouldn't accept a game of the highest quality.

Their also cancelled Warcraft point and click adventure was leaked a few years ago. It was almost finished. Just lacked some music and voicelines I think. Fans have restored what they could. It's not bad. But not great either.

I suspect that Ghost was similar. Just not good enough. Activision/Blizzard would probably have released it to salvage what they could.

The KOTOR remake is supposedly still in production. But I think KOTOR 2 could also qualify as lost media. So much left to finish before the release. A real shame. I think it had the potential to be better than the first one. The party interactions were so much more interesting. I bet that premature release killed KOTOR 3.

Adding to that: Star Wars 1313

Would have been amazing to get a gritty Star Wars game with a good storyline. Star Wars Jedi:fallen order leaned a bit towards it but is not so gritty/dark.

That batwoman movie wb threw out for a tax write off

The missing episodes of doctor who

[–] TriflingToad@sh.itjust.works 17 points 8 months ago

do the Epstein docs count 😆

I'll give an actual answer though, TF2 Source 2 fan project that got DMCAd by Valve. It looked SOOO good.

The holy grail would surely be a fully-remastered Citizen Kane. Unfortunately some idiot executive accidentally sent the negative for recycling in the 80s/90s.

[–] BreadOven@lemmy.world 14 points 8 months ago (2 children)

The full 'hell" scene in Event Horizon.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago (2 children)

Wasn't that lost forever in a salt mine in Europe? Different movie?

[–] Inucune@lemmy.world 6 points 8 months ago

Bits and pieces of it have been found in private collections.

[–] BreadOven@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago (1 children)

It is that movie. Sadly it was mainly destroyed. Would still love to see it all.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago (2 children)

My wife loves horror, science fiction not so much. We're watching Event Horizon in a minute!

[–] AlligatorBlizzard@sh.itjust.works 4 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (1 children)

That movie gave me nightmares as a kid and I was fine with the Alien series. Does it still hold up?

[–] BreadOven@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

I think it's definitely "scarier" than alien movies. I think it holds up pretty well. I still watch it a few times/year.

[–] BreadOven@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago

Nice. Enjoy.

[–] BreadOven@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

My favorite movie, but not my favorite horror movie.

[–] ThunderComplex@lemmy.today 13 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Recently heard that they filmed all the scenes for Groundhog Day in several weather conditions each. Maybe not a holy grail but really funny to think about all the stuff they didn’t use.

[–] gramie@lemmy.ca 2 points 8 months ago

Or the dozens (hundreds?) of hours that Robin Williams spent as libbing as the genie in Aladdin. I think it was in his contract that they couldn't even use it anywhere else

[–] clay_pidgin@sh.itjust.works 13 points 8 months ago

Y'all might like the podcast Dead Pilots Society.

They do table reads for TV pilot episodes that comedy writers sold to a network but which were never actually filmed. There are some real gems in there.

[–] sanguinepar@lemmy.world 12 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

Never actually made, as far as I know, but mine would be whatever it was David Lynch was doing for Netflix, under the name Wisteria (or possibly Unrecorded Night, it seems to have gone by both names at various points). Cancelled due to the pandemic and never really explained as far as I know.

Hell, I'd just like to know what it was going to be - something Twin Peaks related? Something completely new? The further adventures of Jack the killer monkey?

EDIT - apparently his daughter Jennifer has said they're considering releasing the script. That was June 2025, so hope springs!

[–] bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de 12 points 8 months ago (2 children)

I'd love to read George Lucas' treatments for the sequel trilogy. We know that they were supposed to focus on the microscopic world with the midi chlorians more and actually introduce the Whills. Sounds ghastly, but I'd really like to know what he had intended for the makro world. And I wanted to know what the Whills are since reading that word in the novelisation of A New Hope.

[–] Semjaza@lemmynsfw.com 8 points 8 months ago

I'd settle for Eric's recut of the prequels.

[–] MotoAsh@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago (1 children)

I think they make an appearance in Clone Wars? Or are those ones not based on George's ideas?

[–] bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de 2 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Do you know in which episode or season? Can't remember if I watched them all, I think I didn't watch the last season that was made after the series was finished.

[–] MotoAsh@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Hmmmm after doing some digging, I think it's season 3 episode 15? Anakin goes to some crazy planet with super strong force users, one great in the light, one great in the dark. Apparently, they are not the Whills, but known as the "Mortis gods"?

Sounds like it was merely inspired by the whills. That or my searching only revealed a red herring!

[–] daggermoon@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago

Good episode, I saw that one when it aired. I haven't seen it since sadly.

[–] GrantUsEyes@lemmy.zip 10 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

Never made, but Jodorowski's adaptation of Dune. There's a great documentary about it.

Eight??? Even breaking bad knew to quit before jumping the shark.

Being a Disney nerd, an unreleased thing I would like to see is The Enchanted Tales. It was meant to be a series of DVDs, each containing two episodes, featuring the Disney Princesses. One volume was released, featuring Jasmine and Aurora. Trailers for two other volumes were released but the actual episodes were never released. The four unreleased episodes feature Aurora, Belle, Cinderella, and Mulan

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 7 points 8 months ago

An unreleased movie I personally want to see is Batgirl

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 6 points 8 months ago

The full audiobook of Gilbert Gottfried reading 50 Shades of Grey.
