Some of us like it when we are not mentioned...maps without NZ (sorry for the Reddit link)

[–] TheLunatickle@lemmy.zip 12 points 6 months ago (1 children)

As an Australian, I also like when people forget about New Zealand. It makes us look better without the comparison!

The comparison is looking very favorable to Australia currently.

If you use the thousands of kiwis, moving there permanently, every month as a yardstick.

Your country has great food

I feel like Guyana is the Nebraska of South American

[–] UltraMagnus0001@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I think the only native English speaking country in South America. The culture is more like Trinidad, Jamaica, Barbados and is considered carribean. Most of the country is jungle and the people live on the coast. The ocean water is murky, because the Amazon dumps a lot of sediments on the coast.

[–] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 1 points 6 months ago

So basically Nebraska

Your country sounds cool on wikipedia. Would you recommend it as a tourist destination?

[–] UltraMagnus0001@lemmy.world 4 points 6 months ago (1 children)

The beaches are not great. It does have the deepest part of the Amazon, so there are great tours to the jungle and savanah.

[–] clay_pidgin@sh.itjust.works 1 points 6 months ago

That sounds neat. I'm not a beach guy anyway.

Am Danish, can confirm.

Except it's not so great when the mention is about our awful government learning all the wrong lessons from US politics.

[–] BuboScandiacus@mander.xyz 5 points 6 months ago

Danish person: complains about their government

People from almost any other country who would kill to have a government half as good:

Ps: continue complaining, that’s how things advance

I get unreasonably excited when I see Vancouver, as Vancouver, on TV. It's everywhere, but only rarely as the setting.

Family Law and Continuum are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head. There was a Brent Butt sitcom a whole back.

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 2 points 6 months ago

Metro area pop almost twice that of my entire country lol, I'd consider it pretty big

But I can definitely understand the excitement. Rarely see Estonia in movies so Tenet did very well here. Should re-watch it just for the awesome sounstrack at this point

[–] JayJLeas@lemmy.world 1 points 6 months ago

I live in Australia and get excited when it's mentioned, so... 🤷
