I think I might have developed a small addiction to Hexbear, as despite joining just 4 days ago, I have done almost nothing but use Hexbear.

Seeing as I'm trying to improve myself, I'm thinking about trying to use Hexbear less so I don't become a full on posting addict. With that in mind, what are the hours with the most amount of activity? I know Hexbear always has some activity, but I wanna know the times it's okay to "skip" reading / posting on Hexbear and what time's it's not.

I feel like if you avoid the megas you can see everything there is to see on hexbear if you look for about ten minutes twice a day, but maybe I'm off base on this

More like 30 minutes if you are also commenting, but yes, that's a good estimate otherwise.

Regular 9-5 working hours in Moscow and Langley AFB.

This kind of joke, combined with the front page always showing Moscow time... I love the running gag that Hexbears are also Soviet Bears and the site's full of Russian bots. Would be a lot funnier if the USSR was still intact and communist, and the Cold War was still raging, but this washed up Soviet sympathiser will take what we can get.

Hi yes. I am Russian bot called Ivan.

[–] Euergetes@hexbear.net 20 points 5 months ago

it seems somewhat proportional to users being drunk

Do you use other social media, or just Hexbear? Hexbear alone isn't addictive enough in my personal experience to interfere with my daily functions, but I also have a Lemmy.ml account I'm more active on that I take frequent breaks from.

While I've heavily participated in communities I've created, besides a Discord (which I don't really use and probably should get around to deleting) and some game accounts, this is literally my first social media presence beyond "lurker / minor participant."

I can guess it's surprising, but my antisociality and shyness has, for the longest time of my life, extended to the internet as well.

[–] Cowbee@hexbear.net 9 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Then I think you're doing it well!

[–] GamersOfTheWorld@hexbear.net 4 points 5 months ago (2 children)

I don't really agree.

I feel like, solely due to the fact that this is a social space where I'm somewhat meshing with other people, I'm really throwing myself in hard and investing into it without being cognizant of the consequences of my actions. Despite talking about how I really want to actually do something during my time here, I've kinda just been unthinking in my usage of this platform. I don't really know what to call it, but I don't consider it healthy, or as you said, "well."

[–] Cowbee@hexbear.net 9 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Eh, Hexbear is just a hangout zone. I think you'll be fine in the long-run and will settle around what's "healthy."

[–] GamersOfTheWorld@hexbear.net 6 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I hope so, if not for my own sake, then everyone else's.

Anyway, thank you for your faith in me, comrade!

[–] Cowbee@hexbear.net 5 points 5 months ago

No problem!

[–] Cat_Daddy@hexbear.net 2 points 5 months ago

We're more of an antisocial network, somewhat akin to reddit

[–] Cat_Daddy@hexbear.net 8 points 5 months ago

Doing it the right way

[–] Erika3sis@hexbear.net 14 points 5 months ago (3 children)

Given the site demographics, probably 6 PM to midnight Eastern Time. I haven't actually checked but that seems like a reasonable estimate.

6 PM EDT = 10 PM UTC = 8 AM AEST.

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 15 points 5 months ago (2 children)

We have a crew of people that browse and post during the day too while they're at work, dunno how large the contingent is but I've ran into them.

[–] Cat_Daddy@hexbear.net 11 points 5 months ago (1 children)

We call these hexbears... DAYWALKERS

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 7 points 5 months ago

It's open season on all suck-heads!

[–] BelieveRevolt@hexbear.net 6 points 5 months ago

That's me.

Although I'm in a completely different time zone so you wouldn't notice.

When I get too addicted I first log out and view the website still but I won’t spend 90 hours commenting bullshit then have a fixed time to check it once a day for 15 minutes since there aren’t many posts unless I decide to spam badposting with some cringe.

You’d be hard pressed to see posts move faster than needing to check in more than once unless we’re arguing about something again.

Ngl I get addicted to upvotes real easy it’s kinda annoying bring back old forum boards. Bit idea, let me see everyone else’s upvotes but not my own

[–] GamersOfTheWorld@hexbear.net 16 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, upvotes are a fuck. I'm addicted to them too.

My policy has been to upvote literally everything except it's a particularly egregious or disagreeable take, so I can make sure everyone has at least one gold star.

I do literally the same thing, haha

most amount of activity

My guess is when it's daytime to early nighttime in most of the US. Very roughly I mean noon to ~7pm EST.

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 3 points 5 months ago

We all know you're just trying to maximise your upbears and find the ideal posting time to do so. doggirl-smug

But yeah, I know what you mean, it's nice to be able to speak to people who aren't just up to their necks in the liberal sauce. I don't think trying to limit your posting to "offpeak" times will help. It's better if you set specific times you can and can't use Hexbear, like if you have tasks you need to get done, only use Hexbear after they are all done. I use an extension called Pawblock when I need to make sure I'm not wasting time, something like that could be helpful.
