Some smart TVs also run content recognition algorithms on whatever input you give them, and upload it to the company servers who analyze it for profiling your interests. Maybe even sell that information for profit.

My 2-star review: Someone shit on this TV before returning it. I wanted to give the TV one star because it doesn't function without Internet. But I'm adding a star because that turd was fucking massive and it's pretty cool to shit on something like this before returning it.
We shouldn't be forced to do these things, but connect it to a junk wifi signal setup using tethering or something and once setup is done, disable it.
Itll ping a server. No server, no setup. Itll say it has to download software updates.
Tether to a bullshit Wi-Fi name (like with your phone), finish setup, turn it off and never enable that particular name again. Or research if your TV is like that before you buy it and just don't buy it. But shit happens so you deal with what comes at you as it comes at you.

Set up a temporary network from a phone and kill it as soon as the TV is satisfied, or even better, return it and tell them exactly why.
Apparently, if not configured for local WiFi, many smart TVs will attempt to break into any other SSID they can find - with no input from the user requesting that it do so.
Good thing routers use encryption by default out of the box these days.

I do sometimes wonder, if the tv isn't recording what I do on my pc.
Also, RTFM. It took me 5 years to realize that the reason HDR wasn't working on my tv, is because it only works if I plug my pc in to the third hdmi port.
Some smart TVs do perform content recognition on all input channels, but you should be safe as long as it doesn't connect to WiFi. See my other comment in this thread for more info.
Yea what is with the tv manufactures not making hdmi 1 the "feature" input. It makes no sense to me! Make 1 the best and sort the others to worst.

As someone who doesn't own a smart tv, I believe I heard they even show ads as overlay on any input. As long as it is connected to the web, of course.
It can't download any ads nor invade your privacy if it doesn't have internet connection.

As others have pointed out: some TVs will connect to any open or low security wifi if none is configured.
IIRC the ads (currently) are only done in the smart OS part of the TV, not the direct input.

I don't know if it's on any TVs yet but in the US Amazon operates a LoRa and Bluetooth mesh network to allow various devices to get online through other people's internet-connected appliances such as their Ring and Echo products: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amazon_Sidewalk
Jokes on them, I don't even have cell service at my house and my neighbors are well outside typical range for a node.
Mesh network is actually pretty plausible. I remember reading about Amazon smart devices creating a very slow mesh network with each other. Not sure if that was proof of concept or something they actively do (but I could see that being helpful for certain auto config things, if devices can talk to eachother out of band they can establish better assumptions about the target network that they're configuring for)
Edit: Amazon Sidewalk is what I was thinking of. Based on the devices it's on its pretty clearly intended for location tracking like for Tile competitors

I’ve never done Business social in any serious capacity. Do platforms really not have an Enterprise feature to internally report who posted something?
Twitter fucked up the API after Musk bought it, but you could at least have employees copy posts into a spreadsheet.
I think this is fake, though. I don't have a Twitter amount, so I'm not going to check.
