Muppet Christmas Carol

[–] HeyJoe@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

It may be predictable, but A Christmas Story. I grew up with it and the 24 hour marathon with my parents and for the most part we still keep the tradition alive with my family. Wrap gifts to it, open gifts to it, waiting to eat dinner and still watching it. Of course you only see snip its throughout the day so its not like I see it 20 times, but more likely around 4 times in a year.

It’s a Wonderful Life
Love Actually
Home Alone
A Christmas Story
Die Hard

The Man Who Invented Christmas has quickly become a favorite. I've always been a sucker for A Christmas Carol and love every iteration of it. Especially the Muppets and Scrooged. But this is a new take on it with the focus on the writing of the book. "And Tiny Tim who DID NOT die..."

Home alone!

In no particular order:

  • National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
  • Elf
  • Scrooged
  • Miracle on 34th Street (1947)
  • Star Wars Holiday Special (I know. Please don't judge too harshly)
  • Violent Night
  • A Christmas Horror Story
  • A Christmas Story
  • At least one of the Rankin/Bass stop motion christmas movies
  • How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966)

Plus others, but those are the ones that tend to get played every year.

Die Hard

And Klaus.

[–] missingno@fedia.io 6 points 1 week ago

Tokyo Godfathers (2003) and The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992)

[–] CharlesReed@fedia.io 5 points 1 week ago

I love The Man Who Invented Christmas, because I'm a sucker for Dan Stevens, and a follow up with The Muppets Christmas Carol is the best.

[–] yessikg@fedia.io 5 points 1 week ago

Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)

[–] Lemming421@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Die Hard and Violent Night

Gundam wing: endless waltz

Scrooged.

Just so packed with knock out one-liners, plus the monologue Bill Murray gives at the end is incredible.

Classics:

  • Holiday Inn
  • White Christmas
  • Christmas in Connecticut
  • It’s a Wonderful Life
  • Miracle on 34th Street (original)

I torrented Shrek in like quad audio, the Italian dub is pretty funny.

He's like "eyy donkeh, no bene!"

Good choice. It has layers.

+1 for Christmas Vacation

We watch it every year

[–] Psythik@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Home Alone 1&2, every year since I was four years old. I'm 38 now.

[–] lesinge@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago

Home Alone and The Santa Clause for the kids. Love Actually for the parents.

I went into this expecting like a throwaway slapstick comedy but it's weirdly kinda deep and surrealist at times. Like just the shots alone and color scheme of the sets look crazy.

[–] SGGeorwell@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

SANTA! [bangs head]

[–] IronBird@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

best christmas movie ever

i love when he yells at that karen for interrupting his break

[–] blimthepixie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

How come no one says Die Hard 2?

That's also set on Christmas eve

[–] Professorozone@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

If you saw Die Hard 2, you wouldn't ask that question.

Emmett Otter's Jugband Christmas!

It's time for me to break out my River bottom Nightmare Band metal logo T-shirt

[–] CaptSneeze@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

This is a great one. It’s been in our holiday movie rotation for years and it’s always a hit.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

One modern one that deserves a mention: 8-Bit Christmas.

That one will likely stick around for us. So well done.

Kindergarten cop. Arnold all the way, but also "jingle all the way"... with Arnold, f'course. PUT THAT COOKIE DOWN, NOW.

Albert Family stone

[–] Mim@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 week ago

Die Hard
The Last Unicorn

Weird mix. No, I don't know either why these two.

[–] Trev625@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 week ago

Jingle all the way!

The Polar Express is the only one I usually watch for Christmas. I don't watch a ton of holiday movies but that one brings back memories as a kid.
