Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension withdraws from ICE shooting investigation, says FBI blocked access to evidence The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) – the state’s top investigative agency – announced today that it would be withdrawing from the investigation into the fatal shooting of a 37-year-old woman in Minneapolis by a federal immigration agent.

In a statement, BCA superintendent Drew Evans said the investigation would now be “solely led FBI”, noting that that federal authorities have blocked BCA from accessing “case materials, scene evidence or investigative interviews necessary to complete a thorough and independent investigation”.

Evans added that without “complete access to the evidence” BCA would have to “reluctantly” withdraw from the ongoing investigation.

I live here. I have seen this. Apparently the answer is do not believe what you see. Believe what we tell you. Holy shit.

[–] giantripdrop@piefed.social 52 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.

Who ya gonna believe, me or your own eyes?

Apparently an ICE officer who was run over somehow managed to shoot her, then check the car and walk away.

Riiiight.

The foolish reject what they see, not what they think. The wise reject what they think, not what they see.

That has been their stance for a while now.

[–] theunknownmuncher@lemmy.world 88 points 2 months ago (2 children)

The lesson to take away from all of this is that you're going to be murdered and they'll claim that you tried to run them over, no matter what you actually did. So why not just run them over?

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 27 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The lesson is they'll escalate to violence against any random unarmed person that happens to be near them...

They haven't done this to anyone who was visibly armed tho, and I'll be shocked if they ever do.

Sooooo... Black Panthers revival party?

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 10 points 2 months ago

Fear of their own safety has become the ultimate card to play. All too common in just regular domestic incidents that escalate into something more.

[–] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 50 points 2 months ago (1 children)

This is not going to end well.

[–] HellsBelle@sh.itjust.works 42 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Kash Patel following orders, which will subvert any follow-up investigation forever.

The whole US administration is fucked.

For sure but people seem to be organizing to protest rather quickly. It's too close to George Floyd. It feels different. Maybe it's just hopium.

E: The video material shared on socials is so clear that it makes it obvious to anyone looking the admin is lying, badly.

[–] HazardousBanjo@lemmy.world 26 points 2 months ago

This is damn near identical to how the fascists approached George Floyd.

  1. Immediate victim blaming
  2. Immediate victim demonization
  3. Immediate dismissal of protests and dissonance as radical domestic/foreign terrorists
  4. Immediate calls for increased fascist footsoldiers on the streets to quell opposition

Difference is the fascists don't have the same legal resistance to their actions to prevent an all out crackdown on opposition like in 2020.

Probably exactly why Waltz is readying the Nat Guard. It isn't to resist ICE, its an attempt to discourage Trump from taking control of them again. I don't think that's gonna work tho.

Deniers, and Discouragers are certainly not going to ‘win the day’ on this one. If you aren’t in it to win it, then get out of the way of those who are. This is a pivotal moment in history. Carefully, precisely push the pivot in the right direction.
Have you ever been through Winter in the Northern Tier states? These people know how to thrive and laugh through hardship. Don’t Fuck with MN!

[–] Asafum@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Maybe it’s just hopium.

It unfortunately is.

Protesting this administration accomplishes literally nothing. They don't give one solitary fuck what we think. "We" are their enemy who would never vote for them anyway. They have literally no incentive to listen to us.

They'll lie and lie and lie, fox news will repeat the lie, Elon Fuck will retweet the lie, and the MAGA dumbfuck base will eat it up. The only video evidence they'll see is the most obscure shot imaginable that leaves it ambiguous enough for them to come to the conclusion the Reich wants them to.

[–] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 11 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (2 children)

Oh I don't envision protests moving hearts in the admin. They have no incentive to listen to protest in MN. They listen to their donors. If the protests grow large enough, much larger than today, that would mean missed work, expected profit loss, and at some point calls to Trump's office by the oligarch class. The regime doesn't have enough enforcement capacity to force most people to work should they decide not to. Beside, their profits rely heavily on consumption so they need everyone to work in order for the output to be consumed.

I'll never stay at a Hilton hotel ever again cause of their support of ice and them pulling the independent owner of his franchise.

Fuck Hilton.

These days it seems profits, goods, services and non-corporate customers are unnecessary and it's all about talking up the price of your stock. If you do need ordinary people to pay you money, just capture something everyone needs and charge them rent on it.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 15 points 2 months ago

If the fucking NYT is pushing back against the narrative, you know it's bad

[–] lemmylump@lemmy.world 29 points 2 months ago

This regime has got to be destroyed and these fucks need to be put in prison or to death.

[–] Soulphite@reddthat.com 17 points 2 months ago

I wouldn't belive It if this administration told me the sky is blue and the Earth is round.

[–] BigBenis@lemmy.world 15 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

It's so dumb because they could so easily score some points by throwing him under the bus and saying, "no he crossed a line and should face justice" but no, they've got to be as evil as fucking possible like it's compulsory.

[–] echolalia@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 months ago

Their goal is to cause unrest so they have an excuse to cancel the midterms

[–] TipRing@lemmy.world 13 points 2 months ago

If the justice system fails the public, the public will find its own justice. This is not a positive outcome for anyone.

[–] HisArmsOpen@crust.piefed.social 11 points 2 months ago

Whateverhappened to not influencing an ongoing investigation? These are the days of the shitshow live and expanded.

[–] RePsyche@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

How unacceptably weird!?!

[–] Janx@piefed.social 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It's not necessarily evil, but it's one of my least favorite attributes: not admitting when you're wrong. Mature people admit and apologize when they're wrong or mistaken. Assholes and idiots double-down, victim-blame, gaslight, and lie...

[–] darkdemize@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 months ago

These fucks don't care about being right. They have an agenda and narrative to push and will steamroll anyone who gets in their way.

While I applaud people for protesting the injustices, I fear we're long past the point that protests will bring any constructive change.

[–] santa@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 months ago

Of course they have. Accountability doesn’t align with our government it seems lately

[–] baltakatei@sopuli.xyz 5 points 2 months ago

Trunp is just that Good's death is distracting from his presence in the Epstein files.

[–] Etnaphele@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Dear Amis, it looks more and more likely that you will have to kill and get killed to come out of this fucked up situation you put yourselves and the world into. I’m just hoping Central Europe will be - for once - spared from the violence we will unfortunately see in the next decades, as there is where my lazy ass sits…
