Obstacles to what exactly? This redeployment isn't about immigration enforcement; it's about intimidating and arresting (and registering!) protestors. Minneapolis is a target rich environment for the fascists and they're expecting a huge return on their investment. Strategically, it gets Trump closer to a sustained violent confrontation which will be a landslide victory for him.

Everyone arguing for "war" or direct violent confrontation either hasn't fully thought it through, is actively trying to weaken the country, or is speaking with emotion, not brains.

Any group that's still active and outside by morning will be a target for a regime itching for an excuse to pull the trigger, with no safeguards to stop them. It doesn't even need to be all that violent: they just need a sliver of a chance to propagandize it as violent. No "autonomous zone" fantasy land bullshit this time. I get wanting to fight back. I’m mad as hell. I want nothing more than most politicians (on both sides) and billionaires to be stripped of all their wealth and power, and many of them to never see the outside of a cell. I just want to avoid being a statistic, or living with the memories of dead loved ones and bombed out neighborhoods.

What truly went wrong is the aftermath of WW2. Nazis shouldn't have been let off as easily as they were - especially the ones that escaped justice to countries like Argentina.

That easy-handedness allowed the ideology to survive just long enough for those who saw the atrocities to mostly die off, and to plan ahead and arise through "backdoor channels" on the fringes of society, let that be the Neo-Nazi skinhead or biker groups, incels, or other similar brainwashed extremities of people - generally tons of dim-witted morons misled easily by the handful of intelligent, actually morally fucked ones in charge.

I too hope the US manages another civil war and gets broken up, because the political imbalance both internally due to the fucked up, rigid political systems and externally due to the constant influence they exert over others, is not tenable. A more EU-like approach between the 50 states (plus DC plus PR) would be much more beneficial to both the states and the world.

There won't be a civil war. The left would have to fight back for there to be a war. This is just a fascist take-over.

The ways to stop this go from easy to hard. Funny that.

The easiest is voting. It has the least risk, is the easiest to do. Done properly and regularly, it’s also the most effective, not just preventing shit like this happening but putting people you actually want in power. This is easier than the protest fix.

Bear in mind Americans are too lazy to do this in any numbers. They think even this is too difficult.

The next is peaceful protest, running from organised marches which are less effective but galvanise the public, to complete shutdown of trading, going to work, whatever can be done. This takes more effort than voting and in the case of real shutdown or mass protests, requires hardship. In this case this would be done to force those in power who might, to use the institutional rules that stand to remove this president and administration.

This is where the US is now and what it should do to fix this. This requires hardship, like losing jobs they don’t want, healthcare insurance which covers fuckall anyway and the threat of eviction.

This is still better than being shot in the face, which leads us to the next and last step of doing something about it; civil war. Despite some claiming the US is there, it isn’t quite yet. People are being murdered but there are not yet states fighting each other.

You might think you want this but you don’t, really.

When are US citizens going to take the easier paths to fix these things? Right now it’s peaceful shutdown. Fuckin oath they’ll lose jobs, healthcare and homes but perhaps if they thought about these things every time elections came up and how important voting is, the US wouldn’t be here.

Disengage. Don’t go to work, don’t buy any shit you don’t need, don’t pay your bills, don’t pay tax. Don’t bitch about the hardships of this either; you didn’t take the easy way out so now it’s the hard.
