Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Donald Trump has declared himself the “acting president of Venezuela” in an unhinged Truth Social post.

Mentally unsound.

We're about a week away from him adopting the title Emperor.

[–] Sanctus@anarchist.nexus 43 points 1 month ago (2 children)

More and more I find myself saying just do it. I don't mean to be an accelerationist but it might help the world in this case. The more he alienates and isolates the US the better.

[–] jonathan7luke@lemmy.zip 23 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I'm kinda with you tbh. At the rate he's going, maybe, just maybe, the frog will realize it's being boiled.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I am completely baffled why he (they) didn't get all their ducks in a row and then go full fascist right after the midterms.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

those are next november

[–] Zahille7@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

They're human, just like the rest of us. I'm sure you struggle with self-control as well, like telling yourself you're not gonna eat any ice cream until the weekend but then you have yourself a bowl on Wednesday.

It's incredibly hard not to do the thing when it's just right there and basically in your possession already.

We can't go back. The only way out is through. The quicker we get started, the quicker it'll be over. There will already be a dire cost to pay; delay only increases that cost.

He needs to add one more fake victory.

All I want in the world is to see this man watch everything he think he had accomplished be utterly destroyed, his name burned from buildings, scorched from history.

I want him to watch his entire family go to prison, real prison. I want him to see his wealth shattered and put to public works dedicated to destroying the type of hate and ignorance he thrives on.

I want justice for his countless victims. The children we know he deflowered and destroyed. The adults whose lives he's broken. For the world he is helping destroy.

And I just want to see him suffer now because of pure spiteful vengeance

Fuck you Donald Trump

I want to see a system where it's impossible for people like him to achieve power

[–] Willy@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 month ago

Won’t happen. He’s declining too quickly.

[–] Kirp123@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago

Sadly he won't. He's barely there mentally as he is. He will die and the cowards won't do anything to him before that.

[–] pivot_root@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

scorched from history.

Wiping away history is how you end up with a repeat of history.

His name should be in textbooks, right next to his misdeeds and the consequences of his rule. It should be taught to every student in high school as a lesson in history, civics, critical thinking, and cult indoctrination.

Nazi Germany is one of the most-studied periods in history, if not the most-studied, but here we are again anyway. Mere education isn't enough.

[–] iamthetot@piefed.ca 10 points 1 month ago

Well, education in the USA is not exactly great.

[–] valek879@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 month ago

The rump admin is full of people who studied the Nazis. They took notes on how to use a radical minority to take over the country.

[–] RedGreenBlue@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I don't think they teach this stuff in USA.

[–] humorlessrepost@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Sure they do.

Hitler was a National Socialist, and socialism is bad, so Hitler was bad.

My Tennessee education taught me all I need to know!

[–] iamthetot@piefed.ca 5 points 1 month ago

Be prepared to be disappointed, I'm afraid.

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 month ago

Don't think that will happen...

I predict that the most along those lines we get will be Trump, on his deathbed, getting a glimpse of a world preparing to forget about him.

[–] Zahille7@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Ngl, I wanna give him the Pesci treatment from Casino.

Make him watch first.

[–] pmk@piefed.ca 26 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Is this like when Idi Amin called himself King of Scotland?

[–] Atelopus-zeteki@fedia.io 9 points 1 month ago

It's possible Idi Amin was less deranged, but otherwise it carries just as much weight. "Sure donnie, let's get you to bed now."

[–] Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zone 19 points 1 month ago

FFS, stop using titles that start like this when its not an obituary

[–] HisArmsOpen@crust.piefed.social 4 points 1 month ago

What a moron.
Everyone knows he isn't acting...... /s
