I'm shocked fruits and vegetables are even on the same line as meat and dairy. Big Agri didn't pay them enough

Also health killer and cancer supporter

No, don’t you get it? The worms whisper to him. He knows the truth! You have to blend beef, fine Argentinian beef, in a blender then inject it into the top of your peen. If you don’t have a peen, take the cow peen and staple it to your face, then inject. Then you will be stronk like robber fucking lies kernedy junior! -a brainworm, probably

[–] ApathyTree@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 1 week ago (5 children)

The worms are trying to spread themselves through undercooked meat! RFK is merely their mouthpiece to the world! They know bigger portions mean more chance of raw middle bits! Wake up sheeple!

It's literally a South Park joke from a couple years ago too...

Cartman flipped the pyramid, just like RFK Jr did in real life.

Focusing on protein and healthy fats over carbohydrates is not quackery.

An insistence on meat/dairy, that’s quackery, but Americans in general eat too many shit tier carbohydrates and fats and not enough protein.

Edit: this is Lemmy. Want fiber and protein? Eat some fuckin’ BEANS.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 24 points 1 week ago (2 children)

We eat more than enough protein. What we lack is roughage. We're all in on that ultra processed white bread and corn chip stuff with lots of pasta. The main foods we need to eat more of remains as it always has: vegetables and to a lesser extent unprocessed fruits. We also should shift how we consume starches to healthier variants like baked potatoes. But seriously, it's fiber, we don't eat enough fiber

[–] deranger@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I don’t disagree with that at all. Fiber is massively important.

I suppose what I’m trying to say is, given a constant calorie budget, people would be healthier if they shifted their proportions of calories towards protein and good fats and away from carbohydrates and bad fats. This does not seem like quackery to me, it seems like sound dietary advice.

[–] eupraxia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

This is broadly true, and the majority of the information in the new dietary guidelines is more or less in line with what we know already and what was recommended before. Protein is a great energy source that keeps you fuller longer, and is especially important if you're active. But the new recommended range of protein intake is ridiculous. 1.2-1.6 grams per lb of body weight is well above the range that is helpful for bodybuilders, much less average sedentary Americans. Many will meet this with red meat consumption, which has a number of negative health and climate effects that the new dietary guidelines have nothing to say about.

You also really do need fats and carbohydrates for a number of vital body processes, and I think unless they're active and being VERY careful, someone eating 1.6 g/lb of protein will struggle to get enough fat and carbs without introducing a caloric surplus.

There are almost zero Americans that are protein deficient. Yet people here freak out about vegetarians and vegans like they're going to die of lack of protein while ignoring common vegan protein sources.

You could cut about half of the meat from old food group suggestions, including the Michele Obama one (which was more healthy and reasonable), and still be getting more than enough protein.

God these people are so anti-science and so fucking dumb. Men all desperately trying to look like roided out freaks.

[–] Shirasho@lemmings.world 23 points 1 week ago (4 children)

I'm no vegan or vegetarian, but I've been eating way less meat and more veggies lately since I found a really delicious veggie stew recipe. I've made it weekly for meal prep almost 4 weeks in a row now. There are many days recently where I go without eating meat at all. I just got some blood work back from my yearly physical and I had too much protein in my blood.

I actually get more protein from the veggie stew than I was getting with my old diet.

[–] 0k_@lemmy.world 33 points 1 week ago (3 children)

You can't just say that and not share the veggie stew recipe.

[–] msage@programming.dev 5 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I'm commenting in hope that vegan stew recipe drops and I get a notification.

This guy would be our next president, taking the republican party in the succession, if not for his voice. Hard to give a good hitler speech with that impediment, probably a deal breaker with the base. Vance is not going to get it in whichever case. He was chosen because he's an unlikable cunt so the president wouldn't be shunted aside for him so quick.

[–] blitzen@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

If RFK Jr runs for president, I’d start to feel okay about history repeating itself.

He's imagining you're eating roadkill and zombie deer though.

[–] peanut_boy@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago (6 children)

This type of stuff is unironically going to shorten the lifespan of millions of people. The keto diet is so absurd. If I wanted to invent something that technically followed the rules but was wildly unhealthy, I doubt I could come up with something as absurd as the chaffle (a waffle made of cheese), but I know people who've actually eaten them. Once I was visiting my family and started snacking on some chips, but something felt off, so I checked. It was literally just melted crispy cheese. We're going to be the first generation to have a lower lifespan than our parents.

Policy aside, who is even using the food funnel, formerly the pyramid, to guide their diets?

[–] Weydemeyer@lemmy.ml 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

IIRC government recommendations can impact the composition of school lunches.

[–] ragebutt@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 6 days ago

School lunches, hospital food, nursing homes, rehabs, etc though many of those will quietly break from the pyramid and just go with a nutritionists guidance. But that’s a big part of why these industries bribe people like rfk. It gets them huge amounts of locked in buyers eating their product because they have to

[–] some_guy 7 points 1 week ago

He's the smartest man in generations. He said we don't need vaccines and now I'm ok to eat roadkill without worrying about parasites. What a hero.

My dad almost died from polio. Vaccines are a major part of my existing (my mother got vaccinated against it). Fuck this guy.

I WANT A BRAINWORM. LET'S LEAVE A DEAD BEAR IN CENTRAL PARK AND TELL THAT RACIST SHITHEAD ROSANNE ABOUT IT!

[–] TigerAce@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 week ago

No shit, it promotes products of the Trump syndicate. It smells very badly like corruption.
