I just want politics to go back to being boring and barely in the news. I want to never hear from leaders except at their regularly alotted time.

[–] baggachipz@sh.itjust.works 13 points 4 days ago (1 children)

We had that a couple years ago, it was so nice

[–] BillyClark@piefed.social 34 points 4 days ago (1 children)

During Trump's first term, I identified this as the number one most annoying thing about Trump. That you don't want the world's biggest attention whore as president.

And the only good thing about Trump was that he didn't actually do the job. He just watched TV and called into Fox News and took extended golfing holidays.

I still cannot comprehend how people seemed to forget this during Biden's term, when you could actually go a week or more without hearing about the president.

[–] genericuser2000@lemmy.world 10 points 4 days ago

They wanted a meme president (again) and they got a meme president (again). Those uneducated mouth breathers love it and want more of it. Forget governing, just own the libs bruh

Native New Yorker here.

He was a part of the local media here forever. In his home town he's hated by the rich, the poor, the middle class, and everyone else.

We tried to warn people.

At least you have half the day to prepare. I'm in Korea. I wake up to the dumb shit daily. I've taken to avoiding news entirely...

[–] TheJesusaurus@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 days ago

Hey, uh.... Canada here... It's 24/7 for us

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 23 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Try living in the American cesspool. I have to struggle every day to not kill myself.

[–] QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works 9 points 3 days ago (4 children)

Last shroom trip I had I was so heavily convinced to kill myself that not having a gun is all that stopped me.

[–] BanMe@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

This is why the statistic on gun ownership and suicide is so true, also please find some cool tripsitters before you do this again

[–] QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I was convinced that death would not be my end, that I would survive the destruction of my body and continue on, unaffected by the world, no longer apart of it.

In a sober mindset, I know that's bullshit, there is no afterlife.

[–] Zwrt 5 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Not to make you second guess yourself but it always trips me up when people say they know that there is no post death experience. It seem gnostic.

The shrooms statement could be true for some perspectives and is impossible to proof either way. The idea can be used practically, to understand that death is nothing to worry about and even comfortable can make it easier to live life in the moment. But i have no idea why a healthy person would seek it out because it’l happen on its own for everyone anyway. Might as well live out the magic of this reality now as i experience it.

Not to make you second guess yourself but it always trips me up when people say they know that there is no post death experience. It seem gnostic.

I hate to break it to ya, but I've tried Chaos Magick, Buddhism, Christianity, and New Age... and all the time, it felt like I was lying to myself. That I was desprately clinging on because I was so afraid of death. But the truth is, there is no God.

I really want there to be a God, but our universe is well documented and contains no sign of design or purpose. Life was not created, it evolved, and I'm not so sure it was a good idea to develop conciousness. What cruelty is it to give life to something that knows it is destined to die, the universe is a harsh mistress.

Mankind has dreamed of a light we go into after death, to seek an even greater purpose and fulfillment than we had in life, but it is just a dream. Neurology has proven conciousness is all in the brain, once the brain goes, so do you. How I wish I could live the "life" of a spirit, unattached from the world and unable to be harmed by it; free to go where I want and do what I will.

Believing in magic made sense in the Bronze Age, but in the modern day we have measured and labeled the things of the world, and not a drop of that inventory includes the mystical.

I wish I could offer an empty platitude about how life has more meaning because it's finite, or how the wonders of the natural world are good enough. I'd be lying if I did however.

The Universe is eternal, matter and energy are never truly created or destroyed, it merely changes form. Our conciousness however, is an exception to this, it started when we were born and it will end with our death. The universe is eternal, but we are temporary.

I take no joy in telling you this, but it is a horror that we must learn to accept.

I dunno. America is making the European extreme right a lot more emboldened.

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The only thing stopping them making a clean sweep in the UK is they've split into factions and none of them can agree on anything other than a rabid hatred of anything foreign.

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 days ago

The extreme right here in Estonia is, at the very least, very much against the liberals wanting to get rid of healthcare lol

Luckily they also don't really have the numbers to do any of the horrible shit they want to.

[–] zakobjoa@lemmy.world 19 points 4 days ago

Our police force is drowning people in the Mediterranean.

[–] Riverside@reddthat.com 19 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Nah, Europe is complicit in genocide in Gaza. There's no "coherency and peace" before 5pm here either.

[–] HereIAm@lemmy.world 28 points 4 days ago

And the EU has been on a roll recently with threatening privacy with chat control, net neutrality, rising right-wing politics in many countries. We're not a mini america yet, but let's not pretend it's all roses and unicorns here, there is a lot of fighting still to be done.

[–] cosmicrookie@lemmy.world 20 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Actually 'today' Trump is in Europe and we get to enjoy the misery already from the morning hours🤦

[–] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 12 points 4 days ago (1 children)

You guys can keep him we will call it reverse colonization.

[–] ADTJ@feddit.uk 10 points 4 days ago

Sorry, no one in Europe is home right now, return to sender

Right, so if I look up politics in the UK I'll see that everything's 'pretty excellent?'

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 14 points 4 days ago

Thinks back to the heady days when the Vice President misspelled potato.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 11 points 4 days ago (1 children)

At least you can start drinking when they're posting and no one calls you an alcoholic.

[–] roserose56@lemmy.zip 9 points 4 days ago

"are you drinking again?" Checks the news "ooh I see" goes away like nothing happened.

[–] Bullerfar@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

And waking up to another insain story from the clownhouse ...

[–] Zephorah@discuss.online 13 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Dipshit Don is losing his fucking mind to Alzheimer’s, and there’s no one left with power or money who is willing to do anything about it.

[–] Quetzalcutlass@lemmy.world 15 points 4 days ago

The ones with power and money are gleefully taking advantage of it.

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 13 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Nobody forces you to read that shit. Feeding the outrage machine has been a major part of Trump's success. I try to ignore this nonsense as much as possible.

[–] realitaetsverlust@piefed.zip 40 points 4 days ago (3 children)

You can ignore it until he invades your country

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 11 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

How is exposing myself to the daily shower of diarrhea going to help with that?

He's already invaded my country. His personal military is occupying Minneapolis right now.

You think you have a bad time hearing it. Try living it? cries in America

[–] TheJesusaurus@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Do more than you are right now. And encourage others to do the same. This isn't something that happens to you, this is something you make happen.

There is nothing I can do
