Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

All I've heard so far is that he "had a gun". Even if this is true, holding a gun is not a crime. This was a fucking execution.

[–] imrighthere@lemmy.ca 79 points 3 weeks ago (4 children)

It was in his waistband, at the small of his back. You can see an agent lift his shirt and take the gun, then you hear the first shot. Agent with his gun runs away, other agents magdump on the man.

I bet that idiot got him shot because the rest of them didn't notice it getting taken then freaked out when it was gone

[–] imrighthere@lemmy.ca 38 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Watch the video, straight up murder, they had already pistolwhipped him, he was done.

[–] Kowowow@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

well ya but I think this comes down to a bunch on undisciplined idiots as well as whatever hate is also there

Latest angles show the gun had been removed and the other agent had enough time to see. Also the suspect was face down on the ground before he was shot in the back.

He was held to the ground and executed

Exercising Constitutional rights is now a capital offense in The People’s Republic of MAGAstan.

Free speech? Death.
Free assembly? Death.
Keep or bear arms. Death.
Privacy? Death.

The gun appears to be taken from him before he was shot based on the video screencaps here https://imgur.com/a/ice-taking-victims-holstered-gun-before-shooting-started-NtnH5Hv

Homeland Security shares account of fatal shooting The Department of Homeland Security said federal agents were conducting a "targeted operation" in Minneapolis at 9:05 a.m. Saturday looking for "an illegal alien wanted for violent assault."

"An individual approached U.S. Border Patrol officers with a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun," the agency said in a statement. "The officers attempted to disarm the suspect but the armed suspect violently resisted."

"Fearing for his life and the lives and safety of fellow officers, an agent fired defensive shots," the department's statement continued. "Medics on scene immediately delivered medical aid to the subject but was pronounced dead at the scene."

DHS said the man had two magazines and "no ID" and that more information would be coming.

Alex Jeffrey Pretti, 37.
No criminal history. A lawful gun owner with a valid conceal carry permit.

An ICU nurse who studied at the University of Minnesota. Brave ICE thugs, boldly murdering poets and nurses.

[–] JHRD1880@lemmy.world 27 points 3 weeks ago

That pretty much confirms he was innocent and they murdered him.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 13 points 3 weeks ago

Ah they can fuck off with their fearing for their lives. Cowards, and they need to fear more.

[–] LePoisson@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

At this point maybe they should be getting reason(s) to fear for their lives because apparently you can be on the receiving end of nothing but peaceful protests for weeks, hell by now it's many months in places, and still fear for your life.

Also, this is the USA, we are allowed to have guns as civilians (for better or worse). Just being in possession of a firearm should be be a fucking pretense for murder.

ICE is just begging to get shot and they're going to deserve it when it finally does happen.

State governor Tim Walz said he had spoken to the White House about the incident.

Fuck the Whitehouse. Deploy the National Guard to get ICE out of town, Tim.

[–] orbituary@lemmy.dbzer0.com 38 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

I'm afraid that's what it will take. I'm also afraid that's what will start the next Civil War.

[–] PancakesCantKillMe@lemmy.world 39 points 3 weeks ago (5 children)

I feel the Feds vs States is on already. The States are just not really responding yet.

They’ve killed in captivity, had one ruled a homicide by an examiner, publicly executed 2 in front of cameras and so far they’ve managed to at least have their budget increased. At some point something will break.

Edit Removed 'We' from the initial start sentence as I'm dumb and can't type.

[–] el_muerte@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 weeks ago

Civil War 2.0 is already under way.

[–] digitalFatteh@lemmy.ca 19 points 3 weeks ago

I’m sure they’ve taken Tim’s stern criticism on board and will begin withdrawing ICE from the state any day now.

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

What exactly can the National Guard do? Can they be instructed to resist ICE presence? Genuinely asking.

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 weeks ago

It would be a coup at that point. The national guard is commanded by the Governor of the state, but the President can also legally override the governor and take control.

Can they be instructed to resist ICE presence

Yes.

Keep in mind, the only alternative to the Minnesota state government resisting the feds directly is armed, citizen militias, which will be way the fuck more bloody. ICE can possibly be intimidated by the national guard, but especially against citizens, they're not going to just tip their hat and leave.

I will never understand how we can push the second amendment so hard, and then use having a gun as an excuse to kill civilians. Furthermore, I will never understand how the 2A crowd will then also use that excuse as a justifiable reason for someone to be killed by law enforcement.

"No, bro, the way I carry MY gun is totally different. He wasn't doing it right."

[–] andros_rex@lemmy.world 26 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

California started restricting guns when the Black Panthers started exercising their 2A rights..

[–] SARGE@startrek.website 6 points 3 weeks ago

Every republican that talks shit about gun control, I roll with it and see how far they'll agree with me.

"hell yeah, the government shouldn't be allowed to control our guns!"

"fucking politicians always getting scared of people just for owning and carrying guns. They don't kill you by accident!"

"anti-gun nut Ronald Reagan got scared of people walking around open carrying, and he fucked California up with gun control while Governor! Brought it to Washington with him, too! cites laws signed by Reagan"

I lose a lot of the with this one. Somehow Ronald Reagan is their idol?

"yeah man, if they can take a trans persons guns, they can take yours too!"

That last one is where I lose almost all of them.

If there is a hell, Ronald Reagan is getting pineapple'd with Hitler, Margaret Thatcher, and Charlie Kirk.

[–] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago

Reagan did that. It's always been the right wing nuts who control what others do.

[–] notwhoyouthink@lemmy.zip 6 points 3 weeks ago

But don’t you see…their 2A fervor ends when applied universally, because they believe it was intended for them to use against their perceived enemies.

[–] Tm12@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 weeks ago

Systemic white supremacy

[–] minorkeys@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

The people who pushed the 2a are in ICE though. "Some of those that work forces are the same that burn crosses."

Always the passive voice. Even international media is apparently scared to say what we all see clearly from multiple angles on video: ICE grabbed him, wrestled him to the ground, beat him, held him still and unloaded about 10 rounds into him at point blank range.

[–] meco03211@lemmy.world 27 points 3 weeks ago

Whoa whoa whoa. You're missing the most important inflammatory point. He approached them "with a 9mm handgun ^being legally carried and holstered like a responsible gun owner and it had been removed from his possession prior to ~~his murder~~ defensive shots^".

[–] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 39 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

I bet those Democrats who voted for full funding for this public execution are proud and we should call them up and congratulate them on directly causing another murder of an American citizen.

Representatives Henry Cuellar (Texas), Tom Suozzi (New York), Vicente Gonzalez (Texas), Laura Gillen (New York), Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (Washington), Jared Golden (Maine), and Don Davis (North Carolina).

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

While we're at it, we should thank Pelosi (California), Clyburn (Worst Carolina), and other DNC leadership bigwigs for personally going to Texas to make sure that the anti-choice, anti-trans, and ridiculously corrupt Cuellar beat his progressive challenger Jessica Sisneros who was winning before they put their thumb on the scale.

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 21 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

Pretty sure "a gunshot is heard and then several more are fired. The man then falls still." is inaccurate. Video shows the man fell still at the first shot. Which means all the others were overkill.

[–] andros_rex@lemmy.world 25 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

And they’re pretending that he was brandishing the gun/had it illegally. Just came out that he had a permit to carry.

That was an execution.

The first one was overkill.

[–] LePoisson@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

The man was on the ground already when the first shot happened. I call total bullshit on the narrative DHS and ICE are trying to cook up.

[–] OctopusNemeses@lemmy.world 18 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

This was done one purpose to instill fear of protesting.
