Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

"I don't see what the problem would be." - Italian Interior Ministere Matteo Piantedosi

Imagine not having an imagination.

Imagine being a fucking fascist who loves the taste of trump's ass.

That's more like it.

They're to prevent US athletes defecting to EU.

It's like the throw back episode where the new actor for the role meets the old, popular actor from the decades old series in a brief cameo.

[–] AnchoriteMagus@lemmy.world 31 points 2 weeks ago

Ah yes. Using your country's immigration police in a location where it is physically impossible to enter your country. Truly 4D checkers.

Sounds like a perfect opportunity for a sting operation. ICE comes to Italy. Doesn't understand they have no jurisdiction. They all get arrested and thrown into jail.

You think fascist like Meloni are against Trump?

[–] wewbull@feddit.uk 4 points 2 weeks ago

Pretty sure fascists don't like other fascists exerting power in their domain.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 6 points 2 weeks ago

That was a great scene in the first Bourne movie.

[–] BleatingZombie@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I would like that very much, but its unlikely any of them have broken Italian laws, so it would probably be unlawful arrests (and then they would get let go)

[–] wewbull@feddit.uk 6 points 2 weeks ago

I was assuming they'd keep acting as ICE and would break laws.

[–] nosuchanon@lemmy.world 26 points 2 weeks ago

This is the equivalent of using the Hells Angels as security at the Altamont concert. Didn’t end well.

[–] Bonesince1997@lemmy.world 25 points 2 weeks ago

That role is to be a threat to the security of others in the vicinity of ICE agents.

To prevent foreign athletes from coming back in the US luggage, I guess🤷

There is precedent to "borrow" investigators and even gunmen from other orgs to provide security for the politicians and athletes (residual fear from Munich 72). DHS have apparently been used on past trips.

Of course, that isn't what is happening here. fuckface wants his gestapo out in force. The real question being whether he wants to attack "illegal immigrants" anywhere he goes or if he just heard that other countries get to have people with guns and he likes those people with guns.

[–] pennomi@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago

More evidence ICE is simply a secret police.

I'm seriously expecting these ICE assholes will kill at least one or two riders (most of them are less than "pure-white") with italian nationality to, soon after, see the assholes in charge justify it somehow.

[–] TimboSlice@discuss.online 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Can't see this turning out well...

[–] watson387@sopuli.xyz 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

What could possibly go wrong?

[–] fibojoly@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 weeks ago

Meh, Europe is used to dealing with hooligans.

[–] okuyasu@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I want these pieces of shit out of my town right now, we have the carabinieri and the polizia di stato for these kinds of things

[–] Junkers_Klunker@feddit.dk 1 points 2 weeks ago

But wouldn’t it be nice to have a couple of completely uncontrollable gunslinging murderes walking around and spreading fear?

[–] kikutwo@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

In case any of the athletes require execution?

[–] Mihies@programming.dev 5 points 2 weeks ago

I know for a fact that Slovenia allows Israeli "security" personnel carrying guns in the country. So, I wouldn't be surprised if Italy just let them.

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Personally? I think it's a PR op. They go there with ICE on their best behavior, maybe some speaking Italian. They're extra nice, hand out some stuff. All to make ICE look like good guys to make Ds in America come off as lawless agressors.
