The error in these people's thinking is always that, because they went right, they musta been left before. Since they know nothing about politics, they don't realize that all their previous positions were either also on the center/right, or they simply never held any position on a given topic, because they were uneducated and hadn't heard of the idea at all.

Because you didn't know what the fuck that was until Fox News explained it to you, whereupon you slotted that building block they so thoughtfully provided right into your world view, pristine and unquestioned.

The mention of Maga hats is also very telling. The only people who aren't wearing those but are offended about people who don't like them, already have mental Maga hats on. And the victim complex once he puts his own hat on. Of course he has an anecdote about being confronted about it in public, of course he does. Chances are that never happened and is simply a feeble attempt to belong to the group he likes. Or it's too fucking embarrassing to admit it was a family member, the only kinda human who would care about this guy even a little bit.

There’s a type of dude who was a teen during Bush 2 and pins that time in his life as being a leftist because he hated Bush but it’s actually because he was just contrarian teenage boy who didn’t like someone telling him what to do. Guys like this are so politically and culturally irrelevant that they aren’t even worth engaging with.
