I didn't use them much even back in school. I carried a water bottle with me because even if the water fountains were working, they were gross as fuck and sometimes the water came out brown. 🤢

Filtered water bottle station? Yes! I don't trust water spouts where stranger put their faces nearby or where wild life has full access too

No, I pretty much always hit my mouth.

[–] IronKrill@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

Is... is that not the goal?

[–] slazer2au@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago

No, because I still do.

[–] Sparton@midwest.social 6 points 2 days ago

Never stopped

[–] LeapSecond@lemmy.zip 12 points 2 days ago

I've only drank from water fountains in schools and gyms. No, I don't miss waiting in line and watching the person in front French kiss the thing.

[–] IWW4@lemmy.zip 10 points 2 days ago

I have them at work and at my gym.

[–] DrSleepless@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

No I do it every day at work

Oh funny thing is, when I first came to the US

And found out people were DRINKING WATER STRAIGHT FROM THE TAP that was a massive culture shock, in China we had to boil the water.

I mean some water fountains later on added filtering machines, but still, the first water fountain I saw was in a Brooklyn elementary school, don't think there was a filter... so... yea...

I think I felt kinda disgusted at it at first, I mean, some kids TOUCHED THEIR MOUTH OVER THE THING LIKE EEWWW (that's kid me's reaction)

So I avoided drinking from water fountains and I remember always bringing a bottle of water.

I think eventually I got okay with it, but my mom always told me to like turn it on for a few seconds to "flush away the germs" or something so that became a habit. Eventually I just skipped boiling water at home and I drink straight from the tap. (well except now philly had a chemical leak in the water in 2023 so now I don't wanna drink from the tap anymore)

As I got older I just have more and more germophobia so I really just despise water fountains ever since like middle school, except for when my highschool had the filtering machines. Then I'd fill up a water bottle with it.

As for PARKS, HELL NO. BIRDS FUCKING POOP ALL OVER THE PARK.

Cant even sit on a bench FFS

I remember joking like: "Do these birds taste good?" and dad was like: "You can't hunt them, that's illegal in America"

I remember joking like: “Do these birds taste good?” and dad was like: “You can’t hunt them, that’s illegal in America”

Americans seen around the world as radically liberal because of our media but in reality people use to be dissuaded from being left handed because that was the sign of the devil.

[–] LORDSMEGMA@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 days ago

Yea most cities have some kind of ordinance outlawing hunting within city limits. Wish I could take out some of the turkeys around here

[–] LORDSMEGMA@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 days ago

Nope. I still do. I'm lucky to be in a place with really good tap water so I'll go straight from the bathroom sink when I'm at home.

[–] remon@ani.social 5 points 2 days ago

No, because I never have. I don't think I've ever seen one except on TV.

[–] AmidFuror@fedia.io 4 points 2 days ago

I still do from time to time, but they are about the slowest way to drink. If you're very thirsty, you need to stay there for ages. I don't think I've ever quenched a thirst at a drinking fountain. More like got a little more water to survive a bit longer.

[–] solrize@lemmy.ml 7 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

The water fountain was ok but the fire hose is way more exciting.

[–] ieGod@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 days ago

Hose water never tasted right to me. I always felt dirty afterwards.

[–] Ephera@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 days ago

Never used one...

[–] phant@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

I did when I travelled to Finland in summer and learnt they dont have public drink fountains in parks. I got so fuggin dehydrated that day 😆

[–] DemBoSain@midwest.social 3 points 2 days ago

Don’t think I’ve ever done this regularly. Wouldn’t want to now either.

[–] Oberyn@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago
[–] MajorMajormajormajor@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 days ago

Nah, they're still around in my area. They're great, I just wish they didn't change the spout, much harder to wrap your lips around and get a good seal now.

[–] Toes@ani.social 2 points 2 days ago

I miss them, I used to use them to get my dog and myself water on walks. But a bunch of shortsighted politicians knocked em down during COVID. (Wasn't enough to just disable them‽ 😬)

[–] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Not really, my RO system takes the metallic taste out of my local water (heavy iron content) so I prefer to bring my own water and will begrudgingly use them if necessary.

[–] cosmicrookie@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

I need specifications..

Are water fountains the ones that point water upwards? Or generally any tap water?
