As a person who grew up mostly socially isolated (and nearly became a chud), when you don't have a community of normal people around you to tell you not to do this, and you don't have people to reach out to for advice, it's very easy to look at bad advice or nonsense in a vacuum (or on chud filled social media like 4chan) and think it has any merit

For evidence: look up videos of students of nonsense martial arts who get soundly trounced by people who ACTUALLY know martial arts; they saw a guy waving his hands like he's in a slap fight and ACTUALLY try to use that style against people who are trying to punch them in the face

On the plus side though, most people who engage in this nonsense are chuds so......good

I dunno, this sounds like another "kitty litter for furry students" type bs. It can't be real. It's too dumb.

Bonesmashing is real and has vocal proponents online like Clavicular. Very niche in terms of people who actually "practice" it, but not invented like the furry litterbox is.

My day is ruined

I think it's more like the carnivore diet thing. There's really influencers peddling this shit, but none of them actually do it.

[–] da_gay_pussy_eatah@hexbear.net 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

People actually do the carnivore diet, and I'm sure people do this shit too. There's a lot more people doing weird shit than you probably realize. I'm not sure whether social media has made it more prolific or just more visible

[–] queermunist@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'm sure there are people that have actually done it for more than a week, what I should say is for the most part they're just liars. Yes, you can technically survive if you eat enough raw organ meat, but they aren't doing that. They just lie. It's easy, because what social media does is enable liars to lie more effectively than ever before.

There's a lot more people lying about doing weird shit than you seem to be giving credit. Whether it's people lying about the carnivore diet or lying about beating themselves with hammers, they just lie for their brand or clout or just because it's fun.

Sure, but I live in a place where people are absolutely doing some of that weird shit, and you can go meet them and talk to them and see that they are doing it. But maybe it's not as extreme as the most outrageous examples on social media

You can see what they show you. I don't see a reason to assume they aren't just lying to your face. Social media makes it easier to lie, but it was always possible to lie in person. With the carnivore diet, if they're drinking orange juice in secret you'd never know.

The ones that end up in the hospital were telling the truth.

I don't want to self-dox, but I have seen direct evidence of the consequences of the self destructive or harmful behavior, yes.

shit i thought they were saying carnival diet. all ive eaten for months is funnel cake and caramel popcorn and i wondered why i wasn’t losing weight and my teeth were starting to fall out

[–] spectre@hexbear.net 19 points 6 days ago

Its more real than the litter thing

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 16 points 6 days ago

I sincerely hope it's mostly fake, but I guess it started in incel communities and at least one influencer mentioned in the comments does it.

A folk belief has arisen among some young men that they can reshape their face bones to be more aesthetically pleasing by creating microfractures and letting them heal. It's unclear how many people are actually doing this, because anything people say that they do on the internet is going to be rife with people just playing along without actually doing it, but there are a few influencers who do it on camera so the number isn't zero.

This reminds me of the meme "to become bulletproof begin by shooting yourself with smaller caliber bullets to build resistance"

[–] Lussy@hexbear.net 13 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Muay Thai fighters purposefully break their shins so they heal and become stronger. Younguns decided to employ this technique for the face.

[–] footfaults@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

Why does their face need to be stronger? Who are they going to fight with their face? 🤔

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 9 points 5 days ago (1 children)

It's required so they can master the Face to Foot style.
