A combat-unit commander told non-commissioned officers at a briefing Monday that the Iran war is part of God’s plan and that Pres. Donald Trump was “anointed by Jesus to light the signal fire in Iran to cause Armageddon and mark his return to Earth,” according to a complaint by a non-commissioned officer.

From Saturday morning through Monday night, more than 110 similar complaints about commanders in every branch of the military had been logged by the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF).

The complaints came from more than 40 different units spread across at least 30 military installations

Liberals believe this war is to combat religious extremism.

[–] huf@hexbear.net 40 points 3 days ago (1 children)

well, iran is doing their part to combat religious extremism, so in a way...

[–] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 33 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I think it's inadvisable to fall for the framing as a religious conflict. Iran is resisting imperial aggression.

[–] huf@hexbear.net 30 points 3 days ago

iran is resisting imperial aggression by what are clearly religious fanatics. but yeah.

This is fucking wild.

These calls have one damn thing in freaking common; our MRFF clients [service members who seek MRFF aid] report the unrestricted euphoria of their commanders and command chains as to how this new “biblically-sanctioned” war is clearly the undeniable sign of the expeditious approach of the fundamentalist Christian “End Times" as vividly described in the New Testament Book of Revelation.

Many of their commanders are especially delighted with how graphic this battle will be zeroing in on how bloody all of this must become in order to fulfill and be in 100% accordance with fundamentalist Christian end of the world eschatology.

Elsewhere in this thread I called modern Christianity a chaos religion right out of 40K, but I didn't expect to be proven right almost immediately

This shit is literally Khrone worship

The Memo that Outlined U.S. Plans to Overthrow 7 Countries in 5 Years

However, according to some high-ranking officials, there was a deliberate and strategic objective to change governments in seven countries within five years: Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Iran.

It's taken longer than expected, but here we are.

Yeah these guys have drunk their own coolaid. I knew it. I told you all dawg.

You don't get that rich and evil without having some way to delude yourself into thinking there is some kind of higher plan and that you're chosen or something.

It would be so, so very funny if Jesus ends up being real and they actually do get him to come back and he's just like "Oh... Oh wow." And just sends all these ghouls to hell immediately for playing god and mistreating gods green Earth and children.

Lunatic apocalyptic evangelicalism in the military imposed from the top down, I think Hegseth likely has something to do with this. I don't think it's a very effective choice to motivate the troops though when only a fraction of them would subscribe to that kind of bullshit. "We're going to end the world for Donald Trump and White Jesus" might give some second thoughts

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 20 points 3 days ago (2 children)

idk the air force in particular has been full of evangelical freaks for decades at all levels.

[–] Jew@hexbear.net 14 points 3 days ago (1 children)

They built a F-16 Chapel at the Air Force Academy so they can pray for their airstrikes to kill as many as possible

Evangelical Protestantism has got to be the worst sect of the worst branch of the worst religion (Christianity).

[–] fire86743@lemmygrad.ml 47 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

It's so surprising that the religion founded by an eccentric apocalypse cult preacher whose original followers literally believed the world was going to end within their own lifetime now today has deranged followers who are obsessed with the apocalypse. It has been an apocalyptic death cult since its very founding.

[–] CyborgMarx@hexbear.net 32 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Granted in its original iteration it was the ancient Roman version of Posadism, now thru the lens of capitalism its morphed into a Chaos religion right out of 40K

Satan continues to be the good guy in Christianity, or at the very least the lesser of two evils

[–] merdaverse@lemmy.zip 25 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

What exactly are Satan's crimes in the Bible? He tries to be God's equal and take over his place? It's really hard to condemn him for that, given all the actual massacres and crimes that God commits in the Bible.

It really shows how Christianity is an ideology created (or at least deliberately spread) by the powerful, to keep people docile and never question authority.

PS: We can even trace the creation of Hell back to Plato, for the explicit purpose of influencing society through myths

I dunno, sounds like heresy to a very specific kind of evangelical. The rapture has to happen before Armageddon and the second coming. Get your end days timeline straight!

[–] JustSo@hexbear.net 37 points 3 days ago

The Rapture is shit theology. That said, sometimes I wish it was real. Watching all these war mongers get left behind while I party with Stalin and Khomeini in heaven would be sweet.

"this war is gonna bring back jesus, it is time for the 2nd coming of christ"

two days later

"btw we're asking iran pretty please stop bombing because otherwise some oil companies will be sad"

are they listening to how cowardly it sounds to talk about armageddon and then beg for diplomacy? if you wanna believe in this whacko christo-zionist fantasy, believe in it to the bitter end.

Hit the big red button because God told you to, scum. You really believe you'll be vindicated by Christ? Prove it.

this is the relief map of iran, showing 90% of the country safely tucked away behind mountain ranges that give the swiss alps a run for their money.

there will not be boots on the ground. alternatively, there WILL be boots on the ground, and it will be very funny

BED

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 41 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (2 children)

I wish and don't wish there will be boots on the ground. I want to see many dead American soldiers. But also it would be bad because of the unspeakable horrors they will commit.

[–] SteamedHamberder@hexbear.net 44 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Compromise: boots on the ground but only because they washed ashore
