"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

AI companies are paying in tokens to 1) generate more users for their shitty product and 2) save money.

Those are not signs of a healthy, growing industry. Those look like the last desperate attempts to right the sinking ship.

Somewhere between the conversation rate of Schrute Bucks to Standley Nickles.

This is a good way to pay shitty offshore code churn centers and then claim the code they write is AI generated. Which we’ve already seen before. So it’s not unheard of.

Fake news AI companies don't have employees, they already automated everything. /s

Back in the day, I did see some cryptocurrency companies try to pay staff with their cryptocurrency. It's actually a good selection mechanism for the true believers.

I'm thinking about the exchange rate with Shrute bucks.

I mean the tokens basically represent time to use a slave, so tell the slave to do something profitable with the tokens and pocket the surplus value
