Fuck AI

"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

BuzzFeed execs showed off demos for two products under the umbrella of its new consumer-facing spin-off, called Branch Office: BF Island and Conjure, a group chat built around an AI image editor and a head-scratching BeReal clone, respectively.

We don’t get it, and clearly the audience didn’t either. After the demo, a lone cough could be heard among the silence, followed by uncomfortable laughter.

BuzzFeed’s underwhelming presentation comes only days after the media company shared that it has “substantial doubt” about its ability to continue as a business and was engaging in strategic conversations focused on fixing its liquidity challenges.

I don't always wear cargo shorts, but when I do they are comfortable and have plenty of pocket space.

Yanno I hadn't thought about it, but LLMs really came along and started eating BuzzFeed's lunch immediately.

As one of the major manufacturers of human-derived slop, they must have seen the writing on the wall, surely?

They went from human-derived slop to AI slop years ago. The fact that they looked at that “success” and doubled down is what’s so amazing.

Sounds like Buzzfeed will be out of business soon.
