This feels like watching "Live: Making a Fetterman/Sinema/Manchin."

They serve similar but opposite roles. Liberals need their AOC/Sanders-types to act as a pressure release valve for any whiff of mass organizing. They're the face for the younger cohort of the party. The Christian Cinemas and Joe Mansions are the heel: that one darned stubborn Rep or Senator that's stopping anything good from happening.

Ok, I looked up the poll.

9 NB in a sample size of 1075 people.

5 of them approve of Trump. 1 has no opinion. 3 disapprove.

5 have a very unfavorable opinion of Mills. 2 each for very/somewhat favorable.

2 somewhat favorable for Platner, 4 somewhat unfavorable, 2 very unfavorable, 2 never heard of, somehow this still totals to 9.

Only 3 answered who they’d vote for in a democratic primary, all for Mills.

[–] martletutyfan@hexbear.net 38 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Where did they find 5 non-binary Trump supporters out of 9? Something was to be up lol.

[–] Trying2KnowMyself@hexbear.net 27 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Honestly, best guess? When asked “Can you please tell me your gender?” they went on unhinged rants about not having a gender or pronouns, and here we are.

Digging further into the crosstabs:

4 democrats, 1 independent, 4 republicans

3 each for voting in the democratic primary, republican primary, and not voting in the primary.

5 non-white, 3 white, this totals to 9 again.

Ages 1 in 18-39, 5 in 50-59, 2 in 60-69, 2 in 70+, also totals to 9 again.

Yeah this is indirectly data about how .5 percent of people answering the phone in Maine are "get mad about the word 'pronouns' on the phone, but complete the poll anyway"-type people.

Handy to know what to expect

[–] Trying2KnowMyself@hexbear.net 5 points 2 days ago

It was the last question. Maybe for a reason. gabi-thinking

[–] SchillMenaker@hexbear.net 12 points 2 days ago

You're probably right about something being up but if there was ever an answer to the question "Where did they find 5 non-binary Trump supporters out of 9," that answer would be Maine.

yeah doesn't look like you can draw any conclusions from this, it's outliers in a small sample

[–] SickSemper@hexbear.net 33 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Hasan was right, americans do love a nazi murderer!

[–] Blakey@hexbear.net 14 points 2 days ago

shh, his fans will be along to tell you how important it is that we just sit back and let the baby murder fan claim to represent us because being a big fan of baby murderers is part of the lib to left pipeline

[–] ghosts@hexbear.net 30 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Maine demographics be like: 90% White, 8% Italian, 2% Mixed-Race (White/Italian)

[–] Trying2KnowMyself@hexbear.net 15 points 2 days ago

The poll didn’t break out Italians, but that lines up: 980 white, 95 non-white.

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 36 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (3 children)

with all the people in the state they couldn't find anyone better than a blackwater merc with a nazi tatto and someone who would lose to a guy with a nazi tattoo?

Guessing you've never visited Maine? Finding someone willing to cover up their Nazi tattoo was prob a hard find.

[–] Dimmer06@hexbear.net 29 points 2 days ago (2 children)

There's actually a woman running in this race who doesn't seem half bad but the Bernie people threw everything behind Platner because he's a troop.

[–] duderium@hexbear.net 17 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Who’s the woman? Don’t tell me it’s mills.

[–] Dimmer06@hexbear.net 22 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Andrea Laflamme

She still seems kinda liberal but I'm pretty confident that she's never murdered any Iraqis.

Also it should be incredibly shameful that the state AFL-CIO and the SEIU local didn't get behind their own member running for office.

[–] duderium@hexbear.net 20 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I know who some of the people are in the leadership of maine’s AFL-CIO and they are the lowliest liberal imperialist scum you can imagine. I haven’t heard of Laflamme until now. She says she “was” married to a medic while he was deployed to afghanistan so she has my support for dumping him while he was over there.

[–] fannin@hexbear.net 15 points 2 days ago

They threw everything behind Platner because Platner is a nazi and they get off on that shit.

[–] anotherspinelessdem@lemmy.ml 19 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Proof that first past the post is a race to the bottom.

[–] Blakey@hexbear.net 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

yeah, fptp, that's the problem.

[–] anotherspinelessdem@lemmy.ml 7 points 2 days ago

I mean, it's one of the problems

[–] glimmer_twin@hexbear.net 25 points 2 days ago

A red letter day for baby killing fans everywhere joker-amerikkklap

[–] invalidusernamelol@hexbear.net 33 points 2 days ago (2 children)

he's gonna win, turn into another fetterman, and then we'll all be pointing at his example for when the next goon shows up.

[–] duderium@hexbear.net 25 points 2 days ago

Platner gets relentless positive coverage in liberal corporate media which is super sus (as well as the nazi tat and nazi behavior of course). Another strange thing about him is that conservatives and communists are doing a 🤝 here regarding his nazi tattoo, they’re the only ones talking about it. Libs are treating him like the azov battalion.

[–] Trying2KnowMyself@hexbear.net 25 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I know basically nothing about either of them aside from having extensively heard about how Platner is a nazi war criminal who had an excellent time murdering people. Looking at their stances specifically on trans issues for about a minute, it didn’t seem like there were significant differences in their stated stances.

While I’m sure the sample size is smaller, that’s still a pretty wild swing - is there something I missed in my nearly nonexistent research that would explain why enbies favor Mills so heavily? Given the other numbers, it’s hard to believe that the war crimes are a significant factor for voters.

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Conservative hogs putting in sarcastic answers for a gender field that commits the crime of being open-ended, maybe

[–] Trying2KnowMyself@hexbear.net 6 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Having dug into the results more, I do think this probably explains about 6 of the respondents, but I think that leaves the 3 democratic primary voters that all chose Mills as statistically insignificant polling errors.

Generally I’d be skeptical of any demographic research that has a separate result outcome for enbies since the amount of enbies is so small it’s difficult to make it representative.

I get why NB people would not support Platner but why would NB people support Mills? Mills is the Israel-backed candidate and wants to give more funding to Israel. Seems like misleading data.

Keep in mind this is a race between a US War Criminal and Israel War Crime Supporter. There's no correct choice between the two.

[–] Trying2KnowMyself@hexbear.net 14 points 2 days ago (2 children)

It’s not a significant sample size.

[–] dragongloss@hexbear.net 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Sample size on nb has gotta be like 4 people with a 40% margin of error, there is probably a couple thousand nb folks in Maine in total

[–] Trying2KnowMyself@hexbear.net 6 points 2 days ago

9 NB in a sample size of 1075 people.

Maine already subjects us to the terror that is Moxie, when will the nightmare end?

[–] Robert_Kennedy_Jr@hexbear.net 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I thought moxie was just a word you throw into sentences when you're using a trans Atlantic accent.

nonbinary people need to start our own country for real

[–] mar_k@hexbear.net 11 points 2 days ago

Non-binary or other

It was probably an online poll and the "other" option had a custom write-in box, so a couple cisgender chuds picked it just so they could write-in "apache helicopter" or some corny shit
