He has been washed for so long. I really liked him on the Colbert Report, but everything I saw him in after that he was not really funny. Maybe it was just that I was in Middle School when I watched the Colbert Report.

I don't think I've ever personally witnessed someone get so washed so fast as Colbert did. Like yes, he and Stewart were and are libs, and I've moved pretty far left since I was watching them during the Bush/Obama years, but I still watch a lot of lib comedians and he hasn't been one of them for a long time because he's just sucked.

it was pretty easy to stick it to bush, and with most of the media running cover for the wars for a few years before the Report premiered, it didn't take much to seem better. An actual radical would've blown our minds.

We didn't have podcasts back in the day. If punk vocalists hadn't released spoken word albums leftism could have completely skipped a generation.

Colbert was better as a satirical character of the right than as his own self. Much like Stan kelly The actual artist is a typical lib but the cartoon is who we love.

My belief is that his career was carried by some underpaid writers on Comedy Central. They didn’t follow him to CBS, so he was exposed for being unfunny

The only way he can make me happy is by going back to doing animation VA

Don't put the bad vibes on it. I need this.

Got a whole queue of Middle Earth-themed posts for when it drops.

"Just got run off the trail by some faunts on horses from the east. Had to swerve to avoid them. Probably 2-3 punks in their eleventies. We need new decrees on this."

"Why is no one talking about the rise in crime since the fall of Barad-dûr? I live in Isengard and now I have Huorns encroaching upon my property if I don't fight them off."

[–] Spike@hexbear.net 13 points 2 weeks ago

They will vote to defeat Sauron

[–] Crucible@hexbear.net 25 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I saw Aubrey Plaza post something like 'Colbert is the best and the world is going to be worse without him on TV' followed by a plug for her TV show and aiiint that america for you and me

[–] Orbital@hexbear.net 3 points 2 weeks ago

The entirety of this

Isn't there some clamoring for him to run for our next president? We really could use another celebrity president.

[–] peeonyou@hexbear.net 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

or at least a celebrity governor

[–] microfiche@hexbear.net 10 points 2 weeks ago

[–] Orbital@hexbear.net 15 points 2 weeks ago

The whole political vibe is just How Liberals Wish It Was and Please Don't Make Liberal White Men Uncomfortable

Another data point in the study of "most people believe what they want to believe" and another is all the time I've wasted talking to climate deniers*

*them obvious, me wanting to hope that reason will break through somehow

[–] AfricanExpansionist@lemmy.ml 15 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Colbert Report was kinda needed back in those days, along with Jon Stewart's Daily Show. They reminded me that I wasn't insane.

I also respect Colbert for his work on behalf of migrant workers.

Yeah yeah I know, he's a dumb lib 🤷 But at least he had some kind of morality at a time time when fewer and fewer folks on TV did.

I don't know much about him nowadays. I've lived overseas since 2010

[–] goferking0 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Would have been nice if his new show was more like the Colbert Report. Not necessarily in the character but rest of it

[–] AfricanExpansionist@lemmy.ml 9 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah but these guys all wanna be Carson so fkn bad

[–] PolyethylenePt2@hexbear.net 14 points 2 weeks ago

I do the same thing with a lot of things ngl. Like I'll come here and search some threads about kkkanada or eu-cool when I get tired of people acting they're some sort of progressive utopia

[–] 9to5@hexbear.net 12 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I used to watch Colbert back when I was more of a lib must have been like 2015 or 2016 but I outgrew him after like 2-3 years.

[–] BGDelirium@hexbear.net 10 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Someone on this site must have his book "I Am America, and So Can You!" or something like that.

[–] tocopherol@hexbear.net 4 points 2 weeks ago

I do! I completely forgot, it was given to me as a gift, I don't recall ever really looking at it

[–] peeonyou@hexbear.net 3 points 2 weeks ago

i had 2 copies because 2 family members knew i loved him on the daily show way back when and they independently sent me that book for my birthday one year.

i don't think i ever actually looked through the whole thing though

[–] Inui@hexbear.net 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I used to have it, never read it, and found out a family member was a conservative piggy because he saw it on my shelf and said he hated him for being a liberal. Then it spiraled from there.

[–] Hermes@hexbear.net 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

He was decent on whose line

[–] NephewAlphaBravo@hexbear.net 5 points 2 weeks ago

Ooh, say it again!

Jackanape!

[–] KuroXppi@hexbear.net 9 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

I forget which one is Kimmel, which is colbert and one is oliver. Then there's that other guy. They're all just guys who are bad

[–] Thordros@hexbear.net 10 points 2 weeks ago

There's Jimmy, Jimmy, Jon, John,

... AND STEPHEN!

[–] Dort_Owl@hexbear.net 6 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

I might be a little soft on the dude but I don't totally hate him. I dunno I just guess there are worse TV guys out there to hate. I just never sort of think about Colbert. I'm just sort of ambivalent. Unless he did something shitty I didn't hear about like support genocide?

[–] Orbital@hexbear.net 2 points 2 weeks ago

He's a leading voice for Orange Man Bad liberal "thought" and now there's a narrative like he's a resistance martyr or some shit

I don't hate him personally but I can't really respect any participant in the political conversation who can't or won't realize that the price of empire is blood, injustice, poverty and a human future. Affably welcoming ghouls onto your platform is also uncool

didn't book down on it thoroughly but he did insist on saying "the Palestinian territories" when he had Ta-Nehisi Coates on (also a LIB but currently saying some correct things about Palestina)
