Fuck AI

"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

Boys as young as 12 are now in romantic ‘relationships’ with chatbots, and it’s affecting how they treat girls in the real world

I'm a parent, and if you haven't talked to your kids about the vampire rulers using magic images from electric rocks to manipulate people yet you are failing them.

For real though, talk to your kids about this before the AI kid has his AI girlfriend do it.

It wasn't bad enough that our younger brothers have misogynistic weirdos publishing targeted content to lure them into the manosphere. Nah, we needed big tech to get them hooked on synthetic girlfriends before they understand agency and consent.

Or by not reading it because let's face it, you won't gain anything by reading the telegraph.

If my kids learn to build out their on prem server and code their own ai bot friend then I'll be there every step of the way to support them.

None of this stuff is actually difficult. For the front-end, I'd recommend Silly Tavern, which also offers recommendations for the backend, quite a few of which can be run locally, assuming you have a decently powerful PC. And the bots themselves are basically made up of a short text describing their personality. The whole thing is about as difficult as assembling Ikea furniture, and you should encourage your kids to seek out more challenging personal projects.
