I'm already upset that M$ basically killed off every cool Surface to focus on the Copilot shit. What's fancy new hardware gonna do? Make it easier for them to spy on me while I use their mediocre, most-profitable computers?

[–] CommieKhinkali@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

can someone explain this? i think the 25.0528 means the date? 25th of august 2028. but what does 121.5990 mean?

[–] RNAi@hexbear.net 1 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Sorry but why August? August is the eighth month not the fifth at least in my calendar

[–] CommieKhinkali@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 5 hours ago

Youre right, brainfart on my end

[–] hexthismess@hexbear.net 59 points 1 day ago (2 children)

We joke about communism and the one toothbrush, but capitalists are literally doing the one computer

[–] TheWolfOfSouthEnd@lemmygrad.ml 22 points 1 day ago (2 children)

If this shit carries on you’ll have one car manufacturer, one shop, one energy supplier. I’ve ran out of steam there, but you get the point.

[–] Collatz_problem@hexbear.net 8 points 1 day ago

And one people, one state, one leader.

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 22 points 1 day ago (1 children)

one shop

They've mostly succeeded in doing that already with amazon.

[–] Zombie@feddit.uk 8 points 22 hours ago

You load 16 tons, what do you get?
Another day older and deeper in debt

Isn't there a Chinese company producing the chips even though the spec wasn't fully complete or something? i thought it read something like that a number of months ago

[–] TrustedFeline@hexbear.net 2 points 17 hours ago

Something like that. Most of it's over my head

The ISA was published 11 years ago and many companies have been shipping hardware for years now; you can even get a RISC-V mainboard for a Framework laptop: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RISC-V#End-user_hardware

Unfortunately the performance is more comparable to a raspberry pi than a modern x86 PC; the faster ones are still coming soon.

You can follow RISC-V developments here on lemmy at !riscv@lemmy.ml btw

[–] peeonyou@hexbear.net 3 points 17 hours ago

hey, that's good info, thank you

[–] ApertureUA@lemmy.today 7 points 22 hours ago

I would like to add that "faster ones" did exist but were really really limited edition. And also full of backdoors making them not feasible to host a pubnix on. Was reading 9front IRC logs out of boredom once and someone mentioned a maintainer being given a server of sorts then someone replied "ah yes, Plan 9 on unobtanium v".

Sooooooo Winblows on Tegra? How original. I hope the Linux and BSD nerds port their shit as soon as it releases. Although nouveau is gonna be painful...

When y'all are so out of ideas your new idea is selling computing as a utility/service

Enshitiffication is too nice of a word, too fancy, too classy and eloquent of a word

This is just lazy horse shit

It's not even a process of making it shit slowly like a frog being cooked alive by gradually making the temperature hot

Now it's just the bottom falling out

The lack of any decent idea has become an accomplishment

Making things worse is progress now

Shareholders who don't even understand fuck all about functionality, security or contextual use awareness are now steering the collective ship of consumer technology into some kind of shit dimension

An asteroid belt of sheer bullshit, horse shit and God knows what other kinds of shit

The shit stank is monumental and I can't even plug my nose to try to ignore it anymore

I don't wanna become Amish but I also don't want to exist in a world with not only this kind of insulting cash grabbing technology whoding nonsense but so many other ridiculous unnecessarily wasteful ills and evils that it makes me head want to explode

I still can't believe they put ads on default Microsoft Minesweeper^TM^. And apparently that started 10 years ago

[–] agentant@hexbear.net 18 points 1 day ago

Microsoft Adsweeper: When you hit a mine it buys $50 worth of random junk on Amazon

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 17 points 1 day ago

The one solace I have is that the people who are 100% in on this are also the people who were 100% in on the metaverse and that was always obvious to me that it was going to fail.

I do believe this is all going to fail. They've worked harder to propagandise me into uncertainty about that with the collective delusion they're trying to enforce but I still believe it will all fail.

Im too lazy to find it but someone posted a cartoon from the 80s where that really horny Crumb guy drew a line of people queued up for the IBM Thinking Machine and it said "the future that's coming" and it was basically them doing this

When I was young and just getting into the internet and computer gaming I thought "wow like 20-30 years from now will be amazing", lol nope

Trusst the plan

Nangang district has a high concentration of tech companies. it's also where the biggest convention center on the island is. Computex is happening next week.

Edit: though this is way down the road from the tech office area and the convention center, a completely different place. so ???

[–] ZWQbpkzl@hexbear.net 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Probably going to announce at some big convention at the music center there.

[–] segfault11@hexbear.net 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

with the US military distracted by iran and cuba, china has a chance to do something cool

[–] ZWQbpkzl@hexbear.net 16 points 1 day ago

do-something
they never do or will. Things are going good for them. So they have zero reason to whip their dicks out and start rocking the boat.

[–] Lussy@hexbear.net 33 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Yeah Microshit and Nvidia, together, can come up with what could only be an absolute abomination of a plan.

Call this number to talk to your AI computer, no hardware needed. We all have computer now. One computer.

Press 1 to save. Say ‘concatenate’ to concatenate A1 to Z31

[–] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 26 points 1 day ago (9 children)

Im just going to never upgrade my computer. Hardware OR o/s. I'm gonna have such old shit running that hackers and malware won't know what the fuck

[–] Carl@hexbear.net 10 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

This is why the game I'm making runs on Godot's "compatability" renderer. If you can't run at 60fps on a decade old business laptop you're not future proofed!

I can't wait to watch it out of morbid curiosity from my Debian machine. Don't use windows at all anymore so now it's kind of like watching those videos on youtube where people make stupid mistakes while driving and the dash cam catches it.
