Translation: Microslop is going to start slopping out AI slop and hope that gamers eat it up like good little piggies.

Probably, given who they are, but honestly the premise isn't bonkers on its own. There's been a massive wait between Elder Scrolls V and VI, with absolutely no signal how much longer VI may even be. Part of "speed up development" may even just mean adopting a strategy to keep development moving even when working on another project, like Starfield.

Exactly, they can outsource the games to different studios like call of duty and pump out an elder scrolls every year

Estimated chance of TES6 being good plunges to new lows

[–] DebatableRaccoon@lemmy.ca 3 points 10 hours ago

And it was already on the ground.

[–] dellish@lemmy.world 11 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, because rushing things out has worked so well before.

That gave us Halo 1, 2 and 3

[–] BigDaddySlim@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago

Yes, but also that was because of Bungie. Halo Studios is an Xbox Games studio meaning what Microslop says goes, Bungie was able to push back against that and have more control. We didn't have the contractor fiasco with H1, H2 and H3 like we did with Infinite, and no spaghetti code as a result. There was massive crunch, especially for 2, but they maintained control over the project and a much higher capacity. Devs stated many times it was always due to their own ambition being bigger than the time available, or even hardware limitations (Halo 2 E3 demo build).

And don't forget Halo 4.

spinning off its Xbox division or selling it entirely.

Would be really funny if Sega bought it and got back into the console market, but the more likely buyer would be Sony.

[–] kunaltyagi@programming.dev 2 points 15 hours ago

Sony would buy the studios and their IP but wouldn't touch Xbox with a 10 feet pole. Buying to bury the brand might get them labeled as Gatekeeper by the EU

Last main series ES game came out 15 years ago, they really should let it die with what dignity it still has, same with Fallout.

[–] AstralPath@lemmy.ca 5 points 17 hours ago

Which is a shame, because TES' lore is incredible.

[–] warm@kbin.earth 3 points 16 hours ago

Microsoft should have left all their franchises behind and hired creative talent to make new IPs, instead they put any developers they could get on crunch time to spew out shitty sequels. Now that strategy has come to bite them in the ass, as they don't have appeal any more.

Milking machine gonna milk

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 7 points 17 hours ago

Why did they announce TES6 anyways?

Like, I thought it wind be 2-3 years out from announcement. This is kind of insane.

GT6 is pretty similar too.

Pay no attention to the 14th Halo remaster. Or the 67th Skyrim rerelease. Or Fallout Totally Better Than New Vegas 12.

No, we're gonna make something new. Trust us.
