We’re in Caligula times.

[–] Wilco@lemmy.zip 10 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

We are in a fucking idiocracy. This is exactly the type of stuff that was in that movie.

Always I see this, I have to check whether this is actually real, unbelievable what happens in the USA...

In Rome, and other empires, when an Emperor was this egregiously bad, they would not only forcibly depose him, but also tear down all of his statues, works, scratch out his name from documents and dedications, and consign his memory to the garbage bin of history.

For all of their faults, they appeared to have far more courage than our current populations.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 4 points 11 hours ago

This.

We're going to go down in history as pathetic. That'll be our legacy through time.

I'm never one to condone the death of people very much, but I wish nothing more than for Trump to die on camera like when Charlie Kirk got shot. I want the world to be able to watch, rewind, and watch again. I don't need him to die slowly in hospital, I want there to be absolutely zero chance the right could pretend 8.5 billion people didn't watch him bleed out on a sidewalk.

We've more than earned it.

[–] technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 15 hours ago

Who did this?

Fuck the nationalist "we".

[–] pineapplelover@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 16 hours ago

Wonder how my parents will defend this very anti-doge behavior

[–] Hossenfeffer@feddit.uk 14 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

When's he going to have the whole building painted gold? I mean, The Gold House would be much classier than The White House.

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 8 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Just wait until he cheats the 2026 elections, and suddenly his party controls 2/3rds of everything, including the power to do just that.

[–] bold_atlas@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

He's already demolished a third of it. Painting it is well with in his power now.

[–] Knock_Knock_Lemmy_In@lemmy.world 10 points 22 hours ago

I hope he never sees this comment.

No panem but circensis that you have to buy tickets for.

[–] KulunkelBoom@lemmus.org 21 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Some countries have universal healthcare paid by their tax dollars instead of roller rink cheeto's circus.

Some countries have no homeless because their tax dollars help the citizenry instead of lining the orange criminal's pockets.

Some countries feed their children so that no child goes hungry in the midst of plenty.

Some countries don't have a fucking fascist shitbag lying and stealing and grabbing anything not nailed down.

[–] moustachio@lemmy.world 2 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

To be fair, even before the orange shitbag, America didn’t address those things and instead funneled money into a few different shitbag’s & criminal’s pockets.

If anything orange shitbag is a good rep for what the U.S. be like for decades if not centuries.

[–] PhoenixDog@lemmy.world 2 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago) (1 children)

Orange shitbag is a symptom of systemic ineptitude of America. But even if he's just a symptom he's like massive rectal bleeding or gangrene is a symptom of something more serious rather than a runny nose.

His second term is entirely the result of the democrats arrogantly ignoring the rot while trying to go back to normal. And they're going to it again in 2028.

The guys who created Idiocracy should create a documentary style “prequel” showing how Trump leads us down the path to Idiocracy.

[–] technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago) (1 children)

Trump led us here? You should check out the history of USA sometime. Concocted by literal enslavers committing genocide.

[–] kaotic@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago

I’m suggesting the plot for a fictional movie making fun of the current administration…

[–] stringere@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

“I mean, in a way Idiocracy kind of looks optimistic right now,” Mike Judge tells The Daily Beast by phone from his Los Angeles office.

[–] M0oP0o@mander.xyz 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

At least the president in that movie gave a shit about his people.

[–] stringere@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

Someone else mentioned that he also hired the most qualified person and provided the resources to solve an existential problem.

[–] PhoenixDog@lemmy.world 3 points 11 hours ago

Yup. He was stupid, but knew when to listen to others. He cared about the country even though he fucked up along the way, and openly chose to listen to people he at least assumed were smarter and knew more than him.

President Camacho might have been an idiot, but he knew how to allocate ideas, and knew what he didn't know when smarter people came around.

This government is banning vaccines and tells you not to look up.

[–] M0oP0o@mander.xyz 8 points 1 day ago

Yes, we live in a world where dystopian stories from just a few decades ago are looking good.

The picture of the white house in front of the white house somehow gives me a powerful message: everything in this place is fake, nothing is well thought out.

Like he wanted to have his redneck show in front of the house and then someone told him "uh sir we can't actually see the white house from there, there's all your UFC stuff in front of it". "Oh. Meh, put a picture".

We didn't need a sequel to idiocracy.

[–] AlternatePersonMan@lemmy.world 43 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This is more of a prequel.

OMFG this is real?! I thought the pictures were satire! Satire!!

[–] myrrh@ttrpg.network 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

...the fabric image of an unsullied white house façade hung as a cheap backdrop to the proceedings really is the pièce de résistance...

[–] NewSocialWhoDis@lemmy.zip 1 points 10 hours ago

Is that what that's about? I kept trying to ask people why there was a backdrop of the white house blocking the view of the white house. So it's covering up the East wing destruction?
