Yeah lemme get you some cheese with that whine.

Kyiv residents and Ukrainians in general have been dealing with this almost constantly since Feb 2022, you vapid bitch 😐

And that while sitting by candlelight with -20°c outside and no heating while the Russians aim at civilian buildings. The Ukrainians are not even aiming at this hypocrite.

Btw, I just love the missing common sense here. There was an explosion outside therefore I have to go outside is the most faulty logic I've seen in a while.

[–] MartianSands@sh.itjust.works 23 points 1 week ago

It's actually not necessarily a stupid thing to do. If the building you're in would become a deathtrap when subjected to an explosion, then you might be better off finding shelter outside. Same logic as for earthquakes

This is one of the reasons Russia didn't want Ukraine to get long-range capabilities. The plebs would then be aware of the war. Up until now, it was kept away from them and they only felt the second-hand effects thereof.

Isn’t there a draft? Why weren’t the missing able bodied men a big enough sign? Like, I get that she’s a woman, but surely she has a father, uncles, brothers, cousins, friends, or romantic partners who have either disappeared or come back broken, no?

Or is it easy for cosmopolitan Russians to get exempted from the draft?

Edit: It’s hard to find sources, but this makes it seem like it’s not easy in metropolitan areas, but it’s way, way more difficult in rural areas.

Russia has mostly been drafting men from poor rural region exactly to avoid that image.

I imagine that most of the people needing the money are in poorer regions, not Muscovites.

Right, but it’s not a choice, it’s mandatory conscription. It’s hard to find sources, but this makes it seem like it’s not easy in metropolitan areas, but it’s way, way more difficult in rural areas.

I heard of a way Moscow businesses did it: they hired people from the far regions to fill draft quotas, that way they fulfilled what was required of them without sending a single person from metropolis. And people hired knew that, but still signed because the payouts 'in Moscow' are bigger.

It's easy to hide your head in the sand if you really want to

Also, perhaps to put it in perspective: the rural population, especially the elder, appears to be much more supportive of Putin and the war. At least according to the few sources I trust. So managing optics in those areas may not be a priority

If you go outside, maybe visit the graves of people that have died due to ruzzian attacks on civil infrastructure in Ukraine?

[–] MrMakabar@slrpnk.net 9 points 1 week ago

The recruitment from Moscow is much lower. It is the richest city in the country, so they do not need the soldier contracts that badly and Putin does not want to piss them off. As in it is easier to storm the Kremlin, when you are in Moscow already.
