I bet they'll price it at 100 dollars

[–] boaratio@lemmy.world 4 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

I will never understand preorders for software. It's infinitely copyable. There is no scarcity for software.

[–] zanyllama52@infosec.pub 1 points 7 hours ago

Correct answer

[–] AnitaAmandaHuginskis@lemmy.world 16 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

Here we go again with the preorders for digitally downloaded games. Why, why have we not learnt from all the botched AAA game launches?

Preorders for AAA games made sense when supply was scarce, demand high, and games pretty much working at launch day.

This is not the timeline we live in anymore.

[–] MIDItheKID@lemmy.world 1 points 11 hours ago

I think publishers realized this a while ago which is why pre orders usually come with a free skin, or early access, or something like that.

Don't get me wrong, I still think pre ordering a digital item is stupid as hell, but there are definitely people in the boat of "I'm 100% going to buy it no matter what, and this gets me the game a week early" - so for them it makes sense.

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 4 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

But what if the bytes run out? What then?

I buy physical anyway, and have never had an issue just going into a shop and picking up a game on day one.

[–] Squizzy@lemmy.world 1 points 12 hours ago

That ws when preordering made sense, there were queues andcould sell out.

[–] CaptainBasculin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 11 hours ago

I have waited quite a lot to get GTA 5 on a sale, and eventually got it for free (Epic giveaway).

I could wait the same time for a %75 sale.

I would write if we were on reddit

[–] HerbalGamer@sh.itjust.works 6 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Now if SSDs could magically become affordable, I might actually be able to play it.

[–] tal@lemmy.today 1 points 16 hours ago

Get a small SSD and just put that game on it?

https://screenrant.com/gta-6-file-size-200gb-rumors-gamers-react/

According to GTA 6 Intel in a post that has since been taken down, Grand Theft Auto VI will "be just under 200GB", with other "sources" also corroborating this claim. Of course, this rumor has not been officially confirmed by Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive, and it was already clear to fans that GTA VI will be quite demanding when it comes to storage.

[–] PerfectDark@lemmy.world 7 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

This one arrived in the post just in time for this news the other day

[–] Superorbit@lemmy.ca 2 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

Nice DS (could be a DSi I guess, can't see the camera) you got there. I don't think I've seen that shade of yellow before.

[–] orochi02@feddit.org 3 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Looks white to me with strange Lighting but who knows

[–] PerfectDark@lemmy.world 5 points 14 hours ago

It is the Lime Green Japanese DSi exclusive color!

[–] PerfectDark@lemmy.world 2 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Thanks, it was my latest DSi pickup (there's been a lot)

This one is a color exclusive to Japan, it is the Lime Green one :)

[–] mlg@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Do you have GTA China Town DS version lol?

[–] PerfectDark@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Yes! But not a physical copy, I'm using this with my DSi:

[–] mlg@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

Ayyy nice. I'm still on my ye olde R4 clone lmao

[–] mech@feddit.org 2 points 20 hours ago

Basically the same thing

[–] Regrettable_incident@lemmy.world 9 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

It's very unlikely to be playable on the steam deck, so I won't be playing it. That's my only gaming device. Looking forward to seeing others enjoying it tho.

[–] AgentRocket@feddit.org 5 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

By the time they release it for PC, there might be a steamdeck2 that can run the game.

[–] Regrettable_incident@lemmy.world 1 points 15 hours ago

Lol yeah that could be true. I'd definitely be first in line for a steam deck 2, the first one is a great little machine.

[–] PerfectDark@lemmy.world 3 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

Luckily you can run every single other GTA game before VI with relative ease on the Steam Deck!

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Are you saying gta5 runs well, locally, on a steam deck?

[–] PerfectDark@lemmy.world 3 points 14 hours ago

Yes, very!

If you're not morally against the idea, I recommend you consider your legally purchased GTA V copy to just be a license, and then either download a crack to apply or pirate one. Rockstar requires a online check in to play your single player game.

And I am well and truly against that idea. But regardless, yes it plays well!

[–] Regrettable_incident@lemmy.world 1 points 19 hours ago

Yeah I tried 5 recently, it held up okay for a fairly old game.

Isn't pc masterrace excluded from GTA 6 release? It will probably be on PC in the next year or 2.

[–] ohshit604@sh.itjust.works 6 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

With Linux compatibility right?.. Right?

[–] mecen@lemmy.ca 2 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Singleplayer 90% probably

Multiplayer like 5%?

[–] mech@feddit.org 2 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

GTA5 had no issues on Linux.

[–] mecen@lemmy.ca 3 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

You couldn't play multiplayer because of anti cheat

[–] vaionko@sopuli.xyz 4 points 19 hours ago

You could until a couple years ago dangit. And I did.

[–] voytrekk@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 day ago

Makes it easier for us to not preorder.

Not coming to PC until ~2032 anyway.

Not buying a console slower than my PC just to play this at <1080p <30fps with upscaling.

[–] Creat@discuss.tchncs.de 81 points 2 days ago (6 children)

Anyone who pre-orders a digital product that can't actually run out of stock is a true mystery to me. Just wait and see. If you're I've of those eager to pay this, you've already waited literally years. Add a few days, see if it's actually playable and not a buggy mess.

[–] kuberoot@discuss.tchncs.de -1 points 17 hours ago

In defense of preorders, even if they can't run out of stock, servers can get overwhelmed. If they also do preloading and don't fuck up a day 0 patch, you can ensure you can play the game immediately.

I still wouldn't preorder this kind of game, I wouldn't trust them not to botch it every way imaginable, but I'm reminded of the Silksong release, which I would've trusted with a preorder and could've avoided dealing with Steam going down when trying to buy it ;D

I'm mildly annoyed about this, I want to boycot it on principle because the whole union thing, but I'm going to have to buy it for my boy so I'll end up playing it anyway.

I miss him 😔

[–] EyeSeeYou@lemmy.zip -2 points 21 hours ago

Can’t wait !!

[–] FirmDistribution@lemmy.world 34 points 2 days ago

Nah, not pre-ordering anything.

[–] Guitar@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Honestly, seeing as how Rockstar turned GTA 5 into a microtransaction machine after it was already a $60 game, I am so wary of buying it that I might just skip out entirely. I'm not looking to fund Rockstar's next decade and a half with a single higher price game and whatever the new Shark Cards are.

Don't even think about it ...

[–] Canconda@lemmy.ca 26 points 2 days ago

I'm done with pre-orders. They ALLLLLMOST got me with the Halo remake.

[–] EncryptKeeper@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

I’m not at all a “never preorder” guy and will happily pre order games I know I’m going to like.

That being said this game will be the only GTA game for the next 1/4 of my life so I also feel no pressure to actually buy it on release.

[–] hal_5700X@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 days ago

No thanks. The more I hear about it. The less I want to play it.
