“Donald Trump is, without question, the most powerful man that the planet has ever known- by a long way. Historically, powerful people were characterised by brutal conquest and the fear that they instilled in the populations that came under their influence. Common names that would come to mind are Alexander the Great, the Caesars, Genghis Khan, Attila the Hun, Tamburlaine, Napoleon and, more recently, Hitler, Mao, and Stalin,” read the letter. “The overwhelming difference between each of the above when compared with President Trump is their lack of global reach. Their power was limited to restricted local areas (even though some of these areas were quite large in a local context). They had nowhere near the control over modern logistics, manpower, technology, and the global economic muscle that President Trump can enforce."

The extermination camps were origionally created to be deportation camps in 1930s Germany too. It wasn't until the Wannsee Conference on 20 January 1942 that they dreamed up the official policy of extermination. History doesn't repeat, but it sure as fuck rhymes.

Its nuts to think that Trump will be remembered as anything other than a paedophile rapist felon grifter.

Same people still worship Reagan. And you can see contemporary depictions of him as a bumbling idiot. Ffs Phil Collins (actually one of the post popular artist at the time) depicted him as a nuts AF sock puppet.

I mean, the right wing spent most of the 90s and beyond trying to polish the turd that is Ronnie Raygun. They wanted - and still want - that POS to have his name on everything.

And that was after Iran/Contra, mind you.

I bet there is lots of strategic forgettery when it comes to this asshole, who managed to top Ronnie Raygun in his destruction (most likely - Ronnie Raygun is responsible for a shit-ton of destruction).

Reagan's destruction has been playing out over the last 40 years but was necessary groundwork to get us here. The 80s were when the republicans came up with "starve the beast", "two santa clauses", supply side economics, and accelerated regulatory capture.

The Two Santa Claus Theory

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Jude_Wanniski%5C

The Two Santa Claus Theory is a political theory and strategy published by Wanniski in 1976, which he promoted within the United States Republican Party.[15][16] The theory states that in democratic elections, if members of the rival Democratic Party appeal to voters by proposing programs to help people, then the Republicans cannot gain broader appeal by proposing less spending. The first "Santa Claus" of the theory title refers to the Democrats who promise programs to help the disadvantaged. The "Two Santa Claus Theory" recommends that the Republicans must assume the role of a second Santa Claus by not arguing to cut spending but offering the option of cutting taxes.[15]

He won't, ultimately.

Edit: By which I mean because that's all he really is at the end of the day. Realised belatedly that my comment could be interpreted rather differently.

"Alexander the Great, the Caesars, Genghis Khan, Attila the Hun, Tamburlaine, Napoleon and, more recently, Hitler, Mao, and Stalin"

The only difference between Trump and these people is reach... wow.

Just to be clear, those people in order are 1. Brutal conqueror and mass murderer. 2. Mass murdering and enslaving dictator that destroyed a democratic republic. 3. Genociding conqueror that used plague-ridden corpses for biological warfare. 4. A massacring terrorist warlord. 5. A fictional character... of a rags-to-riches shepherd turned ruthless, brutal conquering emporer. 6. Conquering warlord emperor with a secret police force whose reforms included curtailing civil liberties like free press, rolling back women's rights, and reinstituting slavery in France. 7. Fucking HITLER. The guy who invaded and/or bombed most of Europe, deployed the Gestapo to monitor the citizenry and kill the insufficiently loyal, who stole the property and wealth of millions of Jews, Blacks, Gays, Gypsies, etc. before rounding them up in camps, and systematically killing them off as they worked and starved them to death. That Hitler. 8. The authoritarian leader whose reforms for the economy, agriculture and culture led to famine, political violence, mass imprisonment, and labor camps, that collectively led to the deaths of tens of millions. 9. A totalitarian that imprisoned and killed political rivals, had mass networks of forced labor camps, created famine by stealing food for the state, helped set off World War 2 by allying with Hitlet to divide Poland, and directly killed millions of his own citizens.

What a fucking who's who of people I would absolutely be livid to be compared to that you have willingly decided are your peers and role models. Jesus. H. Fucking. Christ. How do you still have any goddammit support from anyone that isn't openly a fascist at this point? How ignorant are people that you can endorse something like this, completely out in the open, and still have your freedom, let alone the most powerful position in the world. Trump supporters are going to one day claim they didn't know. Don't let them. Shut that shit down now. He's making absolutley no secret of his intentions.

Something about this smells like Stephen Miller. 🤢

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 28 points 1 day ago

It’s the Nazi part.

[–] Thebeardedsinglemalt@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I was watching an old episode of MST3K a maybe a year ago. It's a Joel episode so way old. There was a scene in the movie, I don't recall which one, where a new age Nazi was in his bedroom and they riffed about his bookshelf.

"Mein Kampf...the art of the deal beal donald trump"

And I almost did a spit take

Someone in comments referenced something I always think of in regards to Donvict and MST3K - even though they were not really referencing dumbass, since the character is called Trumpy.

"Trumpy, you can do STUPID things!"

[–] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 23 points 2 days ago (2 children)

So, the take-away here is that true power only comes through fear and authoritarian rule? Wow.

[–] HumanOnEarth@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

No, the way I'm reading it the takeaway is "if you thought those guys were scary, you should be wayb more scared of Trump. "

[–] Septimaeus@infosec.pub 2 points 1 day ago

Those who have no sense of history have neither eyes nor ears. -Someone

[–] artyom@piefed.social 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Uhhhh I mean anyone who's not authoritarian wouldn't have any desire for so much power. So, yeah.

[–] zwerg@feddit.org 3 points 1 day ago

That sounds like something Darth Sidious would say...

[–] hanrahan@slrpnk.net 4 points 1 day ago

voters are actually behaving with similarities indifference to early 1930s germans

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Historically, powerful people were characterised by brutal conquest

You’re supposed to conquer not be conquered though.

[–] webp@mander.xyz 1 points 1 day ago

Unless you're a power bottom

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

He absolutely fits into that lineup.

The only difference between Hitlers rants in "Downfall" and Trumps "Truth" Social rants is that Hitler sat in a bunker...

[–] Novocirab@feddit.org 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

It's a distraction attempt from his Iran fuck-up. Same old bait tactic. Don't engage. Talk about the war and humiliation even more.

[–] mech@feddit.org 1 points 1 day ago

But the war was also a distraction

[–] tidderuuf@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Just remember folks, MAGA are Anti Nazis... Which is why they are Anti Antifa.

[–] MrVilliam@sh.itjust.works 22 points 2 days ago (2 children)

No, they're anti anti Nazis, and therefore anti antifa. In other words, they're profa. Man, if only it were clear what fa were. /s

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

It's a double-negative.

Fascists! That's what they are! Yay!

(Oh, fuck!)

[–] GuyFawkesV@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

If my childhood is any indication:

“Fa = a long long way to run”

Vance is a Sofa fucker! It's all starting to make sense!

[–] tlekiteki@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 day ago

Actually, the most powerful person in history was Harry S Truman.

[–] MrSulu@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Many others also make the same comparison. Trump may be equally motivated, but just isn't as smart. And Hitler was dumb.

[–] Thebeardedsinglemalt@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

At least Hitler wasn't a kid-fucker

[–] zbyte64@awful.systems 6 points 1 day ago

At least Hitler killed Hitler

[–] GuyFawkesV@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Aka the Antichrist

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

At first I thought this asshole was referring to himself in the third person yet again - what normal person even fucking does that, by the way - but I guess he's quoting someone else talking about him.
