Oh dear, is he really going to fail at failing?

Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF OCTOBER 19 2025
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

Well that was predictable. The gigantic man child was always going to screw it up. Someone needs to push him out of window or something.
TACO time again?
Mighty morphin taco time!
Negotiations between the US and Iran in Switzerland were cancelled after clashes between Israel and Hezbollah - before a renewed ceasefire was announced in Lebanon
Ah what a waste of time and money for everyone
For the people who didn't read the article - apparently everyone in this thread - the reason for the postponement is not Trump's comments, despite how the headline makes it sound.
Iran are smart enough to let Trump mouth off. What killed the talks is that Israel killed a bunch more people in Lebanon today.
This was inevitable. Iran wants a muzzled Israel as a condition of the war ending. Israel doesn't want the war to end with anything less than the total destruction of Iran (they certainly don't want a capitulation that actually leaves Iran stronger). So Israel are going to deliberately break the ceasefire until one of three things happens;
- Iran stops calling them on it (there is zero evidence that this will happen).
- Trump gives up on peace and commits to a full scale invasion.
- Trump finds a way to make Israel do what he tells them.
As I've noted elsewhere, this war isn't remotely close to over. US vs Iran was the pre-show. Defeating AIPAC's iron grip on US politics is the main event.
Trump finds a way to make Israel do what he tells them.
Does he realize he could just bomb israel instead? Is he stupid?
No. Yes.
- trump declares mission accomplished and invades cuba so he can feel stronk.
That doesn't solve the strait, and the US is about a month away from having too little crude oil to actually run their refineries (you have to maintain a certain pressure level in the pipes or the whole system stops). We haven't seen the real oil crisis yet. The real oil crisis is 10x gas prices, rationing, grounded planes... It would be cataclysmic.
Trump has to pick an option here. If declaring victory and walking away was possible he would have done it already.
I’ve been telling everyone to enjoy this summer, cause this is the end of the gravy train. Everything is going to get much much worse
oh I was not way implying it would.
Stupid headlines
Annoyingly, it's technically accurate, but extremely misleading.
If I say my friend died after eating at Arby's, while neglecting to mention the part where he went to a bar, got stinking drunk and wrapped his car around a tree, the entire statement is technically true. Those events did happen, in that order. He certainly didn't die before eating at Arby's. But there's an implied cause and effect that has nothing to do with the reality.
The fortune teller gave me some grim news, she said that I’m going to die after eating at Arby’s 8(. I haven’t been to one in decades but now I’ll never go back for sure.
Technically, some day I will die after eating at Arby's and that's a horrifying thought.
What if I've never eaten at an Arby's? Am I technically immortal?
Probably, the unfortunate part is that you're going to die now that you've posted a comment referring to Arby's on Lemmy
A forever war, then?
Currently, based on public statements from him and Vance, it actually looks like Trump thinks a fight with AIPAC is more winnable than a fight with the global oil market. Both he and Vance have been pretty openly threatening Israel. Whether they'll have the spine to put some steel in those threats is to be seen, but that seems to be the direction they're leaning, at least for now.
I had thought all this time that he and others had never even publicly entertained the idea of breaking with Israel on policy due to a combination of a steady stream of bribes and a dossier of compromising information on many prominent figures with the implicit threat of intentional leak.
I guess we might be about to see if that was true!
Yeah, it's pretty astonishing. I never thought I'd see the day.
4 - like in 2006. Hezbollah force israel to retreat
What can be done about these terrible click-bait "news" headlines? It's just awful. A high school newspaper has more accurate headlines. Personally, I'd like to see news organizations that do this banned from being shared here if the poster uses the canned spam title with the post.
Maybe there is a news instance that doesn't allow this. I'll be outside shouting at clouds.
The thing that annoys me more is that the article and the headline have been updated now to say that the talks were called off because of Israeli strikes on Hezbollah.
I was curious not so much about what Trump said, but whether it actually affected negotiations.
I'd like to see news organizations that do this banned from being shared here if the poster uses the canned spam title with the post.
then nothing would be posted.
I don't disagree with your point that editorialized headlines are just awful, but if you were to ban sources based on this criteria on lemmy, the information just wouldn't be posted on lemmy.
Not like Israel was ever going to get on board anyway. Deal was dead from day 1. Same pump n dump every week
This is the terrifying bit to me, FTA:
In his latest interview, Trump told Axios that there are “no limits” to his power and the peace deal is “probably is unconditional surrender” of Iran.
Trump was asked what the conflict had taught him about the limits of his power. Trump replied: "I haven't learned that lesson yet. I know there are, but there are no limits."
Yeah. He is either incredibly delusional about what is going on or his administration is really great at keeping him in the dark.
He keeps himself in the dark, because his brain doesn’t work.
Both because of dementia and because of life long narcissism at least.
It would be incredibly sad if it didn’t have such widespread consequences. He always was a dumb narcissist, but he really is deteriorating mentally quickly in the past year, and he never was that bright to begin with. He should be in an elderly home, not the oval office.
I know there are, but there are no limits.
The fuck does that mean
Sounds a bit like this Austrian wannabe painter. He also thought that there is no limit.
Tehran Surrender
Wrong.
Unconditional
Also wrong.
Conditional US Surrender
There it is.
I'd unconditionally surrender if I had to change nothing and receive 300 billion.
You keep using that word...I do not think it means what you think it means.
