He will be back with them when the smoke clears and some temu Trump personality takes the mantle.

[–] dermanus@lemmy.ca 20 points 23 hours ago

I hope no one misreads this as a "come to Jesus" awakening of his morality. He makes his living being in opposition. When Trump was the outsider candidate they were aligned. Now Trump is the president he has to oppose him because "things are basically ok" is not his brand.

Spend the rest of your life apologizing and it won't be enough - you're a spent match next to a forest fire whining about how you hate the heat

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 23 hours ago

It's wild that there are people on here who actually think he's going to become a fucking leftist or something. It's like they have no concept of reality and are just desperate to claim anyone's support, regardless of how evil they might be.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 4 points 22 hours ago

If he's really sincere, he can say it with seppuku. Otherwise, he should STFU, slurp shit and die.

Especially since he said he wasn't joining up with the dems

[–] BigMacHole@thelemmy.club 102 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If ONLY there was SOMETHING Trump's Biggest Supporter in Every Election COULD have Done! If ONLY someone had TOLD him about Trump! If ONLY there was some HISTORICAL PROOF that Trump is a No Good Conman who can't even RUN a Casino! Tucker had NO IDEA!

[–] orbituary@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 1 day ago (5 children)

So, should he go back to that? Or, you know, could leaving MSM possibly allowed for some clarity.

I'm not forgiving his past. I'm allowing for the possibility of reconciliation. I'm also hoping he brings people with him.

[–] politicalincorruption@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He’s gearing up for his next grift. Outrage sells and there’s plenty of outrage fuel directed at the GOP.

[–] orbituary@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 22 hours ago

Good article. No notes.

[–] pwnicholson@lemmy.world 24 points 1 day ago (3 children)

I appreciate your generosity, and I want to share it. I'm open to the possibility.

I think it's far more likely that just as he was on the forefront of the insane right wing unltra-conservative movement when he was on CNN, I think he's looking a few steps down the road and knows that Trump's time is coming to an end - either through term limits and/or death from old age and poor health. And possibly effectively sooner if the mid-terms go poorly. So that there's about to be a massive power vacuum on the right. He's distancing himself from what is about to be a collapse of the party. He knows it'll take a couple of years to build up a viable alternative to Trump's party, so he's starting those wheels.

Rats from the sinking ship and all that.

[–] Jakeroxs@sh.itjust.works 1 points 12 hours ago

I mean there were the leaked texts of him bashing Trump https://www.mediamatters.org/foxdominion-lawsuit/tucker-carlsons-disparaging-private-messages-about-trump-contradict-his-pro

But that doesn't do much for his credibility lol

[–] bedwyr@piefed.ca 2 points 23 hours ago

Tucker is setting up for a presidential run is what the right wing types told me earlier this year.

Idk how his anti israel stance would allow that to happen, he would almost have to betray those newfound anti israel positions to get the nomination I would think. Israel would kill him otherwise.

Besides for that, he's their best candidate that seems to be angling for it at the moment. He could win, unfortunately. It would be a small improvement in some ways from what is going on now, not good enough obviously.

[–] orbituary@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (5 children)

No doubt. I'll pose a question: if we all are so cynical that we can't allow for a redemption arc, what are we fighting for?

I want us to strive for a ST:TNG reality.

That said, your scenario is more realistic. I am not a tragic optimist; truly, a skeptical pessimistic is a better description. But I will not shut anyone out if they're honestly contrite.

I don't know if he is. I'm willing to gamble on it because in this case, we've already lost. Whatever the situation, he's on the right side of the Israeli conundrum. I do think he's got this country as his priority. Not Israel.

I'm no nationalist; that's a sick mentality. But I'd rather someone not be Israel first.

I hope I'm not wrong in wanting him to reconcile.

[–] reev@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I'm open to that but I will also not be surprised when the first thing he says after this is just the same shit wrapped with a different bow.

When people show you who they are, believe them, and whatnot. And Tucker has truly, consistently, shown that he's a heinous human being powered by hate.

[–] Zombiepirate@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Yeah, he's a neonazi who is trying to get ahead of Trump's inevitable implosion.

He's still constantly espousing the racist "great replacement" theory, and his political project is to bring more people into the reactionary tent. For now, that means being critical of Israel, but that's only because he sees which way the wind is blowing.

Don't trust the snake that already bit you twice.

Tucker had his chance at redemption when Jon Stewart got Crossfire shut down. Instead he stayed away for a couple years and came back worse then ever but without the bow tie.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago)

This is not a redemption arc, this is him getting off the sinking ship so he can position himself for a presidential run with even worse policies and ideals. Like he'll actually have ideals and they will be evil.

If you think this man is anything but an evil white supremacist grifter, then I've also got a bridge to sell you.

I'm all for redemption arcs, but it's not this simple. Nothing this guy has said or done implies that he is anything but further right than Trump and maga. Open your eyes.

If you want a true redemption arc, you need to AT THE VERY LEAST START WITH repenting (in their words so they know what it actually means). Nothing he has done is even close to that.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 2 points 22 hours ago

if we all are so cynical that we can’t allow for a redemption arc, what are we fighting for?

A con artist knowning when to pivot to the next con isn't anything to do with redemption, it's just recidivism.

One thing I'm fighting for is rational, fact-based decision-making. Ascribing honorable motives to a person who has never shown a sign of having them is softheaded fantasizing.

[–] zebidiah@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago

I want us to strive for a ST:TNG reality.

Welcome to the eugenics wars...

[–] Serinus@lemmy.world 2 points 23 hours ago

This guy isn't virtuous, and doesn't deserve the benefit of any doubt.

Still, I'll be happy for now for anyone willing to turn on Trump.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 1 points 22 hours ago

I’m allowing for the possibility of reconciliation.

Everybody talkin' 'bout peace, none of them is cryin' out for justice.

Remember when this cunt went to Russia to suck Putin's dick?

[–] bedwyr@piefed.ca 14 points 23 hours ago

He went to a grocery store for the elite when it moscow to show how good they have it, got a slew of foods, which it turns out costed more than the average monthly income of a moscovite. I think it was detailed on a John Oliver episode.

[–] ramenshaman@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago

Pepperidge Farm remembers

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 1 points 22 hours ago

Someone should ask him if it tasted like Trump's asshole.

[–] adespoton@lemmy.ca 46 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Wait… are they just treasonous starting today, or is Tucker saying he committed treason as a card carrying Republican?

[–] zd9@lemmy.world 30 points 1 day ago (5 children)

They're treasonous because Tucker Carlson needs to stay relevant in the headlines. He's a fucking white nationalist Christian fascist, he's very smart, and he's (somehow to his audience) very charismatic. He can be extremely dangerous.

[–] NekoKoneko@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago (4 children)

I'll just add: I don't think there's any real charisma. I think he just has had an audience particularly suited to gullibility, to whom trust is earned by mere repetition, and then been given decades of time to show his face. Every segment of his that I've seen is him speaking like someone spoon-feeding elementary-school logic to a mentally infirm grandparent.

[–] halcyoncmdr@piefed.social 10 points 1 day ago

Every segment of his that I've seen is him speaking like someone spoon-feeding elementary-school logic to a mentally infirm grandparent.

I mean... That's the Republican base. They vote, and they buy whatever they're told to by these chucklefucks. There's a lot of advertising money in the fascist grift world.

[–] Peppycito@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago

Tuckers gift is that he gets them to eat it.

[–] zd9@lemmy.world 1 points 21 hours ago

uhhh... have you heard of MAGA? As long as he has his own cult, he'll be dangerous

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 1 points 22 hours ago

Yeah, he's a condescending, smarmy cunt.

[–] bedwyr@piefed.ca 2 points 23 hours ago

They are treasonous because Tuck wants the presidency in 2028. He could win too, if not for Israel, I've no doubt he will submit to them though when it comes to it.

Right. The United States has prioritized corporate interests over individual citizens for generations. I can point further back, but I don’t think “corporations” would be historically accurate, just “business interests”. Furthermore, the United States have been sending billions every single year to Israel for decades, which has a population in the single digit millions, meanwhile Americans aren’t dignified with health care. Or we, in most school districts, have to pay for our children’s meals while they attend schools that they’re legally required to attend (unless we can afford to send them to private schools).

Anyway - did this guy just, right now, start believing the evidence of his eyes?

Since this is a “worst person you know makes a good point” situations for me, I want to add - the DNC have very much been complicate with all of the above.

"They didn't want me to oppress the sniveling citizenry with them, so I quit!"

[–] kmartburrito@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I haven't watched the Harry Potter films in years and every time I see a screenshot from one my brain lags because I remember them looking older. The last time I watched through them fully was when I was 13 I am now 26.

[–] TryingToBeGood@reddthat.com 3 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

I really wish talk show hosts didn't have so much influence in this country. (He's a talk show host, right? Why should anyone care what he thinks?)

[–] very_well_lost@lemmy.world 5 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago)

He was a talk show host, until his blatant lying about election fraud cost his parent company almost $800 million in a legal settlement and they shit-canned him.

Now he's just a professional Twitter shit-poster and perennial manosphere podcast guest.

[–] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 20 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This is all performative. He has no core values, beyond whatever earns him the most clicks.

[–] TheGoldenV@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

It’s really disappointing that more people don’t see that. This dude will say whatever it takes to get his bread buttered.

[–] Scotty_Trees@lemmy.world 3 points 22 hours ago

I need a filter for MTG, Tucker, Musk, Cruz, and a whole bunch of other fuckwits cuz fuck this stupid shit.

[–] HootinNHollerin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 1 day ago* (last edited 22 hours ago) (1 children)

He’s already sucked off vance immediately after that. Lasted one day

[–] Zombiepirate@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Because he knows the neofeudalists like Thiel are the future of the party, and that's what Vance is: Thiel's sockpuppet.

[–] nosuchanon@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

Why is this deplatformed shitstain still relevant at all? Who cares what he thinks.

[–] DaddleDew@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

Didn't he push Russian propaganda?

[–] Ghyste@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 day ago

Fucker's spent way too long building this ship to flee now that it's starting to take on water. Putin's little bitch boy might be right about this one thing but he's still a worthless piece of shit.
