Hey everybody. Hope you are all doing okay and staying cool during the summer heat. This week I finished my playthrough of the Persona 3 remake. Overall, I enjoyed the game and cast of characters. Unlike Persona 5 (my only prior experience with the series), I liked the life sim stuff over the dunegon crawling, mainly due to Tartarus being very repeatative with sparse enemy variety. I ended up 4 ranks short of maxing out all Social Links, which really irritated me. My one really big gripe is that

spoilerI really didn't like that the protagonist dies at the very end. I perfectly understand that it fits the themes of the game about life being fleeting, so you better spend it with the people you love, and the ultimate Persona you can fuse is Messiah, who gave his life to save mankind the way the protagonist does, but it really bummed me out. I guess since ive only played Persona 5 that my expectations were aligned with that game's rather cheery "Its not goodbye, its see you later" ending
Anyway, I am doing a NG+ run to max out all social links. Besides P3, my brother has returned from his vacation, and we have resumed our playthrough of Elden Ring seamless coop. We are nearing the end of the base game, but I am planning on forcing him to buy the DLC to play when we are done with that. I hope everyone has a good week

Been playing Darktide. Was taking a break but the Skitarii DLC persuaded me to jump right back in since I love the toaster boys.

Yeah, I feel that. Unless you use a guide and follow it to the letter, it's practically impossible to get all ranks on the first go, especially with stat checks. Sure that's one of the benefits of NG+, but it sucks if you don't have the time or desire to replay an 80+ hour game.

W/R/T the ending, I started with Persona 4 so it did feel like a gutpunch when I got it. But I think it was an overall nice arc for an otherwise "blank" MC. Believe it or not, Persona 2's story is arguably bleaker.

Last week when I was sick I blazed through Sprawl. It's a boomer shooter with slo-mo and wallrunning like Titanfall 2 (from what I understand, I haven't played Titanfall 2 yet). Ended up beating the game in one sitting so I almost did it again the next night.

You can almost play through the game without slo-mo at all too. I use it more like ADS in a regular shooter. So instead of staying in slow motion for a while, wall run and jump over a guy with a riot shield, slow motion to line up the perfect headshot, then back to normal for everyone else.

Fun game. Does the modern Doom thing where you only have like 20 bullets for each gun, and capacity doesn't get upgraded so upping the difficulty is also a balance in resource management. Guns felt a little off though. The starting pistols aren't hitscan so you need to lead your shots ever so slightly, and have no punch unless you're lining up headshots. The railgun equivalent also felt off. Maybe that's because you can't adjust the crosshair too much, I like it a little transparent so you can aim over longer distances easier, I just kept missing things even at a standstill.

It has been out for a while so you can get it cheap, and a new Sprawl game is coming out soon, they had a demo up for Nextfest

Well I played In Stars and Time and it made my cry like a baby, so there is that

Just replaced the screen on my r36s so I've been going hard on gba games like minish cap & advanced wars 2.

Everspace 2 mostly, it's hard to believe there was a time when space shooter was a full genre in PC gaming, and it just melted away.

Anyway the game is fun, you fly around and shoot things, there's a story that seems mostly harmless. Not good, but it's mostly out of the way so you can explore the sectors and slowly level up while working toward buying a new ship. It's like a Diablo mixed with a freespace. There's not a huge variety of gear, probably like twelve guns, and 10 missiles. There is some fun gadget abilities to find that give you some neat abilities, like healing or pulling enemies together. Each ship has a unique super move too which is fun.

Mostly just killing time. I finished disco Elysium a few weeks back and that was amazing. I'm trying to build up the energy to commit to another rpg but it's hard to focus that much.

Pirating Expedition 33. Its very fun so far. I feel like I'm Alice in Wonderland though. "Oh the time knife? Everyone knows about the time knife"

not much lately, figuring out some puzzles in shadow of tomb raider, playing a little bit of BG1, got metaphor refantazio on the steam sale so might start that soon

I forgot if I mentioned it in an earlier thread but ESO added difficulty scaling for overland so no more self-nerfs for the overland quests, you can fully experiment with various sets, it also scales up the companion dmg output I think.. so they become quite helpful in combat

edit: I was browsing rednote and found a mention of a tunnel passage I missed in act 3 of BG3, really thought I saw everything in that game after almost 3 playthroughs, good thing I didn’t leave act 3 yet in my honor mode save

I have been playing Mina The Howler and that game is super cool.

i decided to start a marathon of the dark forces/jedi knight series for nostalgia purposes, though i'm using the upgraded ports/versions/etc

if anyone would also like to do this, here's the stuff i used (instructions are for linux because that's what i run):

  • Dark Forces: The Force Engine but the flatpak version because otherwise it does not play nice on my system. As for the files, i'm using my ancient legally purchased steam version, but it should also work with the GOG version

  • Dark Forces 2: OpenJKDF2, again flatpak because it plays nice with my system. and again, i bought DF2 years ago on steam, but this should also work

  • Mysteries of the Sith: same as above, but you need the files, this should also work. just click "Expansions and Mods" on the DF2 menu to install it/play it

  • Jedi Outcast: I used Lutris for this one, with the "Linux GOG + OpenJK + mods version" option (third one down) using the files from here

  • Jedi Academy: Lutris again, with the "Wine GOG + Enhanced mod version" option and the files from here

I really need to go back and finish Dark Forces II, it's like right at the edge of my jank tolerance and I keep dropping it halfway through. It's a shame too because Jedi Outcast is soooooo good

Finally got around to playing Black Mesa, but picked up Saros last night for probably a misprice. Can't wait to play it.

Finished Devil May Cry 3, it's fun but has problems like the level that's just every boss again. I do not understand what you're supposed to do about Arkham's eels, I ended up just cheesing them with the Nevan powerslide.

Tried to start DMC4 but apparently alt-tabbing crashes the game if you're in fullscreen. According to PCGW there's a mod to fix this but one of the links to download it is broken everywhere I looked so it just doesn't work.

Played a little bit of Warframe here and there, getting closer to my current goals of all incarnons and the last tauron strike.

Hollow Knight, i'm 8 hours in and am in the city of tears and completely confused on what to do haha. I'm trying to defeat the soul master to get his item and reach crystal peak, but i've died dozens of times oooaaaaaaauhhh

City of tears was the moment I fell in love with hollow knight. The soundtrack is just chefs-kiss

There's a lot of paths you can go in on HK, if you haven't already purchase the map pins with the bug lady, it helps a lot with navigation and not forgetting to go back to places you can't access yet.

I have been playing a bunch of Street Fighter 6, learning a fighting game is fun! I was playing Ed, but he is bit to complex for me right now so I started Akuma, saw a video about what to do in the low ranks with him and yesterday managed to climb up to Silver 2. Surprisingly I have been consistently anti-airing with his DP, which is something I always struggled with before. I have also started playing Guilty Gear Strive again and decided to pick Slayer, I'm usually a Testament player but wanted to try another character if I'm gonna really learn it, I have finished the placement matches and got one of the lower ranks but I don't remember which one right now.

I have also been playing the Avatar Legends The Fighting Game closed beta and it's pretty fun, but holy shit is it fast compared to these other two, two days ago I have started playing it and got my ass handled to me, but yesterday I managed to win quite a bit, today I'm yet to play and it's the last day of the beta, but I hope I win a few matches at least, so far I have been using Korra since she seems rather easy, but Toph looks sick.

Im playing Songs of Silence (A autobattler with some Heroes of Might and Magic inspiration and a really cool setting / art+music). Will probably play it in coop later tonight.

[–] inoxerable_doubt@hexbear.net 3 points 11 hours ago

Started playing Hunt: Showdown 1986 with the group I usually play Pathfinder 2nd edition with! It has been fun, the gunplay is good — what if DayZ didn't feel like shit describes it best.

[–] zongor@hexbear.net 2 points 10 hours ago

Finished Hylics 1, it was a great experience. It reminded me a lot of Portal 1 where it’s a very short game but punches higher than its weight just because of how tight the mechanics are.

[–] uSSRI@hexbear.net 7 points 14 hours ago

I've been messing around on Esoteric Ebb. Just died for the first time. I played Disco Elysium a bit back in the day but couldn't get into it for some reason. The fantasy/D&D aspects are helping things make more sense to me. It's pretty fun

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 5 points 14 hours ago

I beat Nobunaga's Ambition for the gameboy. Game is really hard and unfair, but like once you get over the hurdle of winning your first territory you can kind of steamroll the rest of the game. It's a shame it's sequel didn't get an english localization, there's a partial translation but it's real rough. Might try and fuck around with it, dunno.

[–] Keld@hexbear.net 2 points 11 hours ago

Pacific Drive is mostly chill.

Making it so there are no direct enemies trying to kill you is kind of neat. Altough the fact that the bunnies still hunt you down and attack kind of undermines that. Also the fact that the mannequins move when you don't look at them is VERY cool. Don't like it when you go away to do something and come back to find your car surrounded by them.

[–] Champoloo@hexbear.net 2 points 11 hours ago

I've started playing Mindustry and I just keep losing in the 2nd sector.

[–] bigpharmasutra@hexbear.net 3 points 12 hours ago

Finally got some time to play Saros. This game is so fucking cool.

Up to the third biome now and this boss is severely kicking my ass. He keeps jumping on me.

[–] Demifriend@hexbear.net 2 points 11 hours ago

I played some Streets of Rage 2, haven't beaten it yet but I'm getting closer. Still haven't finished Deltarune, I played like half an hour the other day to beat the secret boss but that's about it. I was gonna collect the rest of the pink coins but idk it's kinda killing my motivation a bit I think so I might just go finish the chapter.
