Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

Gay married man nearing his 40s here The REAL problem is when you accidentally go out wearing exactly the same thing... for the tenth time that week. And how often we don't notice until somebody asks if we're twins.

Sorry not sorry to my wife, I just look better in her flannel.

She's lucky I'm too tall to steal more than shirts

is it a synonymum for leasbian or is there a difference?

[–] vane@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago

I think it's different. You can be bisexual and be WLW and lesbian means attracted to woman only. But I'm not an expert, just walking by.

[–] Axolotl_cpp@feddit.it 8 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

wlw is a little more generic, like, a wlw could be lesbian, bisexual or whatever while lesbian is only wlw

[–] qarbone@lemmy.world 2 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

The construction of the sentence is just getting to me: "wlw...with a gf."

It feels like the important part is "having a gf," and "having the gf" implies the "wlw." So you could have just left off the "wlw."

[–] grue@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

“having the gf” implies the “wlw.”

Only if you already knew (or assumed) that the person who posted it was female. I, for one, didn't pay attention to the username or avatar pic, so for me, it was a helpful clarification.

"Lesbian" is a statement of identity, while "WLW" is merely a description of behavior.

As I understand it, terms like "WLW" are preferred by sex researchers in order to keep the focus of the research on the behavior and try to prevent it from being used to categorize people too much.

[–] Interstellar_1@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 12 hours ago

well as a woman who loves women you could also love other genders, it's a matter of preference

[–] SharkWeek@lemmy.blahaj.zone 26 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

It do be like that, yes.

Can't go the other way, though, because I'm one size bigger than her :-/

[–] Hexarei@beehaw.org 3 points 5 hours ago

As the smaller of two wives, you are correct

[–] hildegarde@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

One size difference is fine for knit garments. They are stretchy fabrics that can be worn by larger women, which makes them even more form fitting.

I have a dress that looks great on me, but my wife steals it sometimes and wears it and ooooooooooooooo

[–] SharkWeek@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

lol ... I have one knitted jumper that my Mum made (by hand) for my sister. I got it from her, because she didn't like it ... and one of my exes borrowed it once and stretched it all out of shape :-(

Now, I can only really wear it around the house.

[–] hildegarde@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

When I said knit garments I meant those made from machine knit fabrics, as opposed to woven fabrics. My dress I referred to was is a commercial rib knit so its very stretchy, and recovers afterwards.

I'm sorry to hear about the jumper.

[–] SharkWeek@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 6 hours ago

Ah ok, I understand now. I think those have generally been out of my price range TBH ... but in September I plan on scouring lots of charity shops in the UK so maybe something will show up :-)

Thank you!
