Butternut.

Lol!

[–] Zephyr@sh.itjust.works 4 points 5 hours ago

First I'm hearing about this. I guess Lemmy will lose their mind when they learn about Kenyan githeri

[–] rockSlayer@lemmy.blahaj.zone 87 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago) (6 children)

I think it's fair to call me an elder lemming at this point, as I recall the reasons for both. I signed up on .world with my first account on the last day before the infamous APIocalypse.

Along with myself, a lot of us were putting effort into posting good stuff, upvoting, and generally having a lot of positive interactions. Someone on !lemmyshitpost@lemmy.world posted a picture with a can of beans with a caption along the lines of "I hear that lemmy will upvote anything. Here's a picture of beans". It quickly became the most upvoted post of all time.

As lemmy culture developed into a deeply political space, it began flooding !lemmyshitpost@lemmy.world with American politics. People got sick of it, and people started doing "we're posting x now until politics stops". There had been a couple rounds of various themes, and then someone announced "that's it, I'm sick of politics everywhere. We're posting corn". Cornposting has become the default political purge over there.

to call me an elder lemming at this point,

Looks at profile age: 1 years 4 months.

Me (2 years 7 months): Huh, guess I'll just take my prehistoric ass out of here and go chip flints.

[–] TerHu@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

well, they said their first account was on .world, and the one you checked the age of is on blahaj. so, an age discrepancy is to be expected.

[–] Maroon@lemmy.world 4 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

Ah, clearly age has affected my ability to read and comprehend. Thanks for correcting me.

Goes back to flint knapping

[–] pewpew@feddit.it 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

I joined when everyone was competing about holding their poop in as much as possible

[–] Zacryon@feddit.org 1 points 1 hour ago

Do you happen to know who won?

[–] Zephyr@sh.itjust.works 6 points 5 hours ago

Wait, there was a time before every post and comment chain became political? Sounds magical.

Cornposting

I heard cornyposting was pretty popular

[–] paranoid@lemmy.world 9 points 8 hours ago (2 children)

The moths freaked me out a bit. I bet that's the next one

[–] r4venw@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 hours ago (1 children)
[–] ptu@sopuli.xyz 3 points 4 hours ago

Maybe we should start posting lamps

[–] JigglySackles@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago

I was cracking up at the moths

[–] mamg22@sh.itjust.works 15 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Thanks for the explanation! I didn't use to check Lemmy frequently up until recently, so the cornposting has always been this strange thing i saw sometimes, but never understood it. Now it makes sense

[–] popekingjoe@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

We also did it with vans for some reason. So throw that in your history notes.

[–] ThatWeirdGuy1001@lemmy.world 4 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

I remember a small jeans era as well

[–] Minarble@aussie.zone 2 points 4 hours ago

Sometimes the beans were in jeans.

[–] HotsauceHurricane@lemmy.world 5 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

From what I hear corn "is good enough and its got the juice"

[–] LaunchesKayaks@lemmy.world 4 points 5 hours ago

"I LOVE CORN" -that kid that loves corn

[–] Porcupirate@lemmy.world 30 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

Lemmy just loves bean corny

[–] Zombie@feddit.uk 17 points 10 hours ago

Two of the pinned memes on slrpnk memes tells you exactly why we all love corn and beans!

[–] Pacattack57@lemmy.world 9 points 9 hours ago

We are simple farmers around here, the common clay of the internet.

[–] showmeyourkizinti@startrek.website 16 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Ya know, ~~Morons~~ Shitposters.

[–] PodPerson@lemmy.zip 8 points 9 hours ago

Where all the white corn at?

[–] xkbx@startrek.website 21 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

have you never beheld a sweet, buttered cob

[–] mamg22@sh.itjust.works 5 points 10 hours ago

Is holding such a cob the path to enlightenment? If so, then I shall find one and hold it dearly

[–] lillardfair@lemmy.world 10 points 11 hours ago (2 children)
[–] JigglySackles@lemmy.world 4 points 6 hours ago

Learning? In my shitpost?

[–] lectricleopard@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

I guess we know what to expect next.

[–] Chef@sh.itjust.works 3 points 8 hours ago

Squashposting, here we come.

[–] charokol@lemmy.world 4 points 9 hours ago

I’ve been on Lemmy for a whole day and I’ve literally never heard anybody referenced corn and beans

[–] Kintarian@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago

I wonder if Cornholio eats beans

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 8 points 11 hours ago

Everyone loves corn it’s got the juice

[–] SillyMe@piefed.social 4 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

were you around on reddit when they were obsessed with bacon and narwhals? this is basically the equivalent but for lemmy. if you were not around for that I don't know how to explain it to you.

[–] musubibreakfast@lemmy.world 3 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

Bruh, bacon was different. I don't think anyone here is going to build an entire brand and livelihood around beans. Sometimes I think the whole bacon thing might've been a government PSI op.

[–] PoopSpiderman@lemmy.world 6 points 11 hours ago

Is corn and beans succotash?

[–] lectricleopard@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago

Am i alone in seeing the working class foods as an indicator of the politics of the lemmy community on average?

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 3 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

Sounds like a good combination. I've never tried it.

[–] Zephyr@sh.itjust.works 2 points 5 hours ago

Kenyan Githeri is pretty much a big bowl of beans and corn

[–] GorGor@startrek.website 5 points 11 hours ago

add squash, then you have the three sisters.
