Fuck AI

"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

Some families in Georgia are being forced to sell their homes or face government seizures to make way for powerlines. 70-80% of that power is needed for AI data centers.

This is what you voted for. Enjoy no protection from corporations.

Unfortunately that's always been the case with imminent domain. It's why so many of us were against building more border wall. The government has already appropriated enough border land for the stupid fence they already have.

I also am not positive that democratic representatives would legislate AI tech any better. Half of the old politicians think this shit is magic and most of them can be bought.

I don't understand how we are supposed to be running out of fossils fuels, are in a war that is physically limiting the amount of oil that can be accessed, and also have to deal with global warming... And still say we need roughly 30+ data centers accross the country where each single data center uses more power than half the state they are in.

Like it doesn't make sense how we are supposed to be charging our electric cars if data centers are consuming all the power, and expecting you to pay for their power bill.

Does any of this make sense to anyone with a human brain that isn't infected by this death cult?

You make the mistake of assuming this bunch of ghoulish oligarchs care about anything but short term profits. There is no sense except "profits over everything".

Makes about as much sense as building golf courses in deserts, but we still do that as well.

Every human system has internal contradictions that get papered over. It's just how we operate. But when a system runs long enough the contradictions become glaring and breaking points. It means that sooner or later it gets replaced with a new system. The Tech Bros are already designing new ones. So should we.

You push one message to get public funds for the infrastructure. Then you push another message to get people to switch and become reliant on said infrastructure. Then you have control and the message doesn't matter. The data centers are literally going to be surveillance hubs for whoever pays money for the access. We don't need 30 data centers for image generation for your business presentations or the Siri to navigate LA for you. It's for the big shit like facial recognition and data crunching using every citizens personal information.

This is wrong.

I'm surprised they ran this, and left the YouTube comments open. I'll take what I can get.

CBS still has journalists attempting to do their jobs despite constant corporate interference. Sucks.
